Yeah, I wish I wasn't waiting for my Costco one. I missed the big window. Of course I waited in a comfortable office chair while goofing off online and not out in the cold all night so that's something. I'm not sure when my Costco bundle is coming but I'm sure I'll make a little on it. I started out thinking 1500 would be good, than moved it up to 2200 last night. I've settled back down to a more realistic $500.00 profit but we'll see what happens when my unit shows up. Or uhh.....you could keep the unit.... :icon_eek: Crazy talk, I know.... I could but I don't want it. At least not now. $700.00 for a console is not at the top of my priority list. My HDTV is only 30" and not at a good spot for gaming. My purchase was purely to make a little extra cash. When it suits the budget better, I'll grab one. For now if I can grab a $100.00 amazon.com 360 on Thursday, I'll keep that. You've got my email addy, home fry. gellar

Okay...that is just wrong somehow. On the flip size - isn't Sony worried in the slightest that people will be able to reverse engineer how the PS3 'securely' puts part of the game onto the HD and thus find some way to easily copy the entire game to the HD? The storage medium was freely accessible on the PSP (and it came with a way to run non-UMD software from the memory stick), and that ultimately led to its downfall when it came to piracy.

Running Linux on a PS3 is kind of cool.
Then again I could probably get a 256 MB 60GB PC to run Linux for a lot less than $600.

Yeah, but can you play PS3/PS2/PS1 games on it? Can you play Blu-Ray movies on it? I didn't think so. Oh and the PS3 has 512MB of memory, not 256.

I believe it has 256MB of video memory, and 256 MB of system RAM. Roughly 198 of which is available to the OS according to the screenshot you posted above.

But the OS is still limited to less than 200MB of RAM for Linux use. I'm not sure if that matters right now anyway since Linux doesn't appear to have access to the 3D video card. When I eventually get a PS3 I will definately install Linux on it. On a side note I'm wondering if Sony will eventually regret allowing open access to the hardware like they did on the PSP. I play games on consoles to get away from aimbots, maphacks, and all of that nonsense. I could easily see cheating being a problem in online play on PS3 games.

You couldn't use all 512 since you wouldn't have any left to hold your data They don't refer to it as a shared memory system for a reason. You can get more vid memory if you need it but it comes with strings. There are advantages to splitting up the memory of course but there are big disadvantages as well. Playing with it just a bit at work, it makes me miss Live. I had details here but I thought better of it given that I've got a game coming out for the platform Suffice it to say that Resistance misses the mark on a lot of key Live features like chat, and the way you have to maintain seperate friends lists for the game and for the system is bizarre. I imagine these are just issues to do with launch titles that can be ironed out with a few interface patches on the system side. I'm hoping, at least

Well look at EBAY today, you could get the bundle for 900 or less right now, and there are over 20K ps3 for sale. These people will barely make a few hundred dollars after all is said and done if THAT. The lucky ones are the ones who sold their preorder and such for 2k, my god what idiots paid 2 to 3k when they could of waited 12 hours and paid one third that.
Well PT Barnum words still ring true today.
Yep, I knew the bottom would fall out of this market. With all the PS3's going on Ebay, I knew it wouldn't last long at all. Maybe it didn't last long for others, but I came out nice on my sale.
