Also, when mom's and dad's can't find these for little Timmy tomorrow or Saturday, and they HAVE to turn to eBay,
Or Microsoft. Or Nintendo. I still think that is the biggest difference from last year.

It's not a slam dunk, but the ball is falling through the bottom of the net, so it's as close as it could get. Also, when mom's and dad's can't find these for little Timmy tomorrow or Saturday, and they HAVE to turn to eBay, I think the bidding machine will really kick into high gear.
LMAO.. I love when people say things like this, it sums up bad parents in such simple terms! Bad parents are those parents diseased with doing shit for their kids that they run people over with a car, or baseball bat someone for a cabbage patch doll. I have no respect for parents like this, and worse, what kind of adults will these kids grow up to be? "Hey Timmy, I paid $5000.00 for this PS3 so you won't cry!" Most kids the age of my oldest son are walking around here with Ipods, Cell Phones, and $300 jackets. I think I raised my son well enough to not even ask for shit like that - and he hasn't. Thank god...

My sister buys her "Little Timmy" anything he wants.. He wanted a PS3, then a Wii, now she is settling for a Xbox360 because thats the only thing available but then found the price too high, so they dropped down to a PS2 + Tons of games (same as we did).
My guess, these shortages really help Xbox360 and PS2 sales.

According to this article, Sony is losing $241 on each $600 PS3 sold, and losing $307 on each $500 version sold. Kind of funny that it's cheaper to buy both a PS3 and a Wii together than it is to manufacture a single PS3.

Does anyone really think your average middle class family will ebay 2k plus on a PS3 for little Timmy?
Even if there was a huge stock of them on the shelves, I have a hard enough time believing they would drop 500/600 bucks on one when its sitting next to a 250 Wii or a 300/400 Xbox 360.

This console is an eBayer's dream. Or Sony's nightmare. I'm not sure yet. Via madpeon's post: Random tidbit: some lady had a 15 seater van filled with illegal immigrants and homeless people that she PAID to run to where the line would start at 12 midnight. lol. They were getting harassed left and right. Just...terrible. And watch the Wal-Mart video. It's scary what people are doing for these things. Personally, if you want my opinion - if you have a PS3 reserved at a EB/Gamestop/anywhere else that's doing a midnight opening, do NOT get your console that night unless you're going with friends. You're just asking for it right now. Hell - I'm not even gonna get my Wii at midnight. I'll wait until daylight. The Gamestop I have mine reserved isn't doing a midnight sale, which I found extremely odd. The manager told me I could pick mine up at 10:00 Friday morning. Same here. Due to 'security concerns' my EB isn't going to sell it until 10AM on Friday.

Cause (hypothetically) fun is worth more than $1500 in profits for me. Tell me which of the PS3 launch games, or games in the next few months, are worth $1500 of profit to play? You could buy a 360 AND a new HDTV for that profit, and then get a new PS3 in half a year with a better lineup of games at that point. Crazy.

I really don't understand the people who will pay $1500+ for a game system they could get for less than half that price (and with more reliable construction after the initial revision) if they waited a mere few months.
Because people are nuts and absolutely must have the latest (and in theory, greatest) toy. I sure as hell wouldn't pay more than retail for one of these. I don't know how anybody could actually get a PS3 tomorrow and not sell it, if you could make $1500+ in profits! It is a stupid game system!
insert giant link hereJapan is apparently not feverishly looking for the console unlike what people are doing here in the US. That's all I can figure, anyway.

So who (else) here would mug someone for a PS3 Premium? Would you do it for a PS3 Core? I mean, $2000 on eBay, why even bother purchasing the thing when you can steal one?

Because I enjoy a good hunt and had a gleam of EBay in my eye, I tried calling my nearby Walmart and Target, figuring that maybe I could swoop in tomorroow and get one when they open...
Walmart, getting in 4 units, and 4 people already a line (though when I drove by, all I saw what looked like four people hanging out having a smoke).
Target, well I'm an idiot and didn't put the right number into my cell phone, but there were two big tarps up near the door, and what appeared to be 20 people in line.
Was it this nutty for the 360? I am starting to realize how much I lucked out there in my Costco visit!

Honestly I'm not too sure, as I haven't spent much time looking at them since I don't have a console or a method of acquiring anytime soon. I'm sure there's something though, and I'm sure there are multiple somethings coming out between now and the time I'd be able to readily have one. Hypothetically speaking (if I had a PS3 to sell) - I don't need the money... I don't particularly have anything I'd buy with the proceeds that I don't already have or couldn't buy without $1500 profit. Sure, $1500 is nice for anybody, but I'd just rather have the console. gellar

I understand where you are coming from; the bundle I bought at Costco was going on EBay for I think $1400 or more that afternoon when I got it home... I think I only paused for about a tenth of a second before opening it up. People I know thought I was dopey perhaps; but whatever, I was happily playing Kameo and (nearly happily) playing Madden 06...

So...could the all-important section on the box (for those who's TV can't support all resolutions) be any smaller?

Sony's never really liked making their package info terribly user friendly.
Let's look at the PSP packaging. The wireless multiplayer has two modes. Sony calls these modes "ad hoc" and "infrastructure". Now, most people familiar with computer networking should be able to tell you what those terms mean to the user. Do you know many people in the mass market that know much about networking? They could have used the terms "local" and "internet", but hey, I'm sure Sony is smarter than me.

I went to Best Buy on my lunch today to check out the campers and play the PS3 demo unit. I got there, turned on the controller from what I guess is sleep mode and picked my track in the Motorstorm demo. Then when I was prompted to pick my truck the game froze and the music began looping over and over. I asked a worker if he could reset it and he said it has been doing that constantly since they received the system. Does it mean anything? Who knows, but I was pissed that I didnt get to play the damn thing.

The Gamestop I have mine reserved isn't doing a midnight sale, which I found extremely odd. The manager told me I could pick mine up at 10:00 Friday morning.
The Gamestop I got my 360 at did the same thing. They were only getting a few systems which were all going towards pre-orders so they didn't feel the need to have to come back in at midnight when the systems were already spoken for. They did open at 8am the next day though.

Warfront update near me.......
Walmart#1: Note on door. Less than 10 units in stock, but they will give out rainchecks/pre-orders up to the 10 they were supposed to get. (So if the get 5, they will give out an additional 5 rainchecks). Approx 15 people in line.
Walmart#2: No one in line at all. Sign on door says PS3 Line starts here. Jackpot I says! But being of a suspicious nature, I go in and check. It seems that they decided to hand out tickets either early today or yesterday (The lady wasn't sure) so, none left in stock.
CompUSA 1&2. Sign on door saying none in stock.
Best Buy#1: No line in front! Maybe jackpot again! Get to door and sign says, line in back. This threw me off, since I was there about 10 months ago or so and there WAS NO BACK! Low and behold, they added a back as will as having a furniture store move next to them as well. Store says they have "around" 30. Check outside and there are approx 35 people in line.
BB#2: 40+ people in line, didn't even bother to check.
BB#3: Hmm, promising...Approx 8-10 people in line. Very odd. Get to door and there is someone from Mall Management at the door (NOT BB Management). It seems that the mall doesn't want anyone waiting this early. Numerous signs on door about tresspassers being prosecuted and such as well as some PS3 rules..... 1) Mall closes at 9:30PM 2) No one will be allowed in line, parked, or basically on the property until 11:00PM. Violaters will be arrested for tresspassing. (Cops have been there a few times it seems already). 3) At 11:00PM People will be allowed on property to wait in line. Line forms in front of store. Line may only be formed by coming in one specific direction and WALKING. If you run, cut, go off the sidewalk and walk in the parking lot, come around the corner on the opposite side of the building, etc.. You will be escorted off the property. If you give them a hard time, you will be arrested. 4) Around approx Midnight, someone from BB will come out and with the Mall Management do a head count up to the number of systems, so if they have 30 systems, they will count 30 people. the rest will be asked to leave. The "lucky" people will then have to wait until around 7:00 AM, at which time, BB will start handing out tickets. Store will open at 8:00AM. 5) Police and security will be around all night. Any troublemakers will be escorted off/arrested as needed.
Some of the above was actually on the signs, some was told by the Mall Management to me. Even with this, there was still a small crowd gathering. I kind of want to be there to see what happens at closing.... No idea on an exact count, but speculation is around 25 premium, 14 core. This means that at 11:00PM, everyone is on equal footing.... Going back out later... May hit the restaurant in the mall, since I think they close at 10:00PM. I suspect they may do some really good business tonight.

I would love to watch all of that go down. All of those people trying to race into line without appearing to run would be hilarious. I was at Best Buy today after work. There were about 12 people in line with tents. It's cold and rainy in northeast Ohio tonight. I took an impromptu survey of the people in line. A couple of them had been there since Tuesday morning. All of them were planning to put them on Ebay. Even if you do get $1000 for the thing is it worth wasting 3 days of your life? I wanted to ask them that but I didn't have the heart.

1) Let's say you make $2000/month. $1000 for 3 days (or even a week) seems pretty decent, for no real work involved. 2) For people near the BB I am talking about, it would be $1000 for 1 night. Even better. (Except for the people who have been waiting and then found out this rule....(Not sure when it went into affect)

One thing that really ticked me off though. I was chatting in the store with 2 guys who didn't seem to know what was going on. A BB goon comes over to us and says "If you aren't buying anything, you will have to leave. The cops are coming by regularly and we are having people escorted out" So, the rest of the year, if I am just browsing it's ok, but tonight it's an issue? That's bull. I actually do spend a few thousand a year at BB, having this said really pisses me off.

I would have told that guy nicely to F-Off Punisher. Gimme a break, making you leave for talking about the p3? Whatever.
I have no interest in the p3 anymore and i'm so freakin ready for this to be over. Can't wait for my 360 to come in the mail tomorrow.

Part of me wanted to, but part of me knew that if I made a scene they actually might call the cops, especially since they had called them a few times already. Technically it is their store and if they ask me to leave and I don't, I am tresspassing.

Here is a scan of the back of the Untold Legends Box that I just made. It shows the 'Supported HD Video Output' box. Does the box mention the stellar 6.5 IGN review score underneath that "ultimate next-gen action experience" tag? Just asking!! http://ps3.ign.com/articles/746/746160p1.htmlHe could always pick up this Xbox 360 game for under $4 instead. IGN did give it a higher score than Untold Legends.

Most big retailers are fuckheads and don't really give a rats ass about customers. Costco is the exception.
