There is already a site out there with pictures of the ps3 taken apart. I'm certain that if it had two lasers we would already know about it.

Yep, there is no HD-DVD anything in the PS3. It's already been taken apart.

I'm definitiely glad I'm waiting on the PS3.  At this point I may wait until Q4 2007 for them to work out the kinks and see how the launch systems holdup.  Size is also going to be a factor for me-  Sorry Sony, but you don't get to hog up my entertainment center without paying me rent.

well, it's already happening...

PS3 shut down a wal*Mart store..

http://www.yahoo.com/s/438964

I've actually been in that Wal*Mart several times as I lived in Lancaster, CA (a part of the Antelope Valley, along with Palmdale).

Let's just say I wasn't surprised to hear it was people there behaving this way... and it makes me damn glad I'm not working at the Target there anymore!

Why are people so goddamn stupid these days?  They should all be ashamed of themselves.  These yearly social epidemics are pathetic.

Seriously- there won't be HD-DVD materials in there.  The HD-DVD forum would be crowing about their victory if that was the case (and you can't make an HD-DVD player without a license from them).  Further, there is no need for it.  Even if Bluray fails as a format, it will still work just fine as a gaming media even if PS3 games are the only things left coming out on Bluray by the end of the system.

This console is an eBayer's dream. Or Sony's nightmare. I'm not sure yet. Via madpeon's post:

Random tidbit: some lady had a 15 seater van filled with illegal immigrants and homeless people that she PAID to run to where the line would start at 12 midnight. lol. They were getting harassed left and right.

Just...terrible.

And watch the Wal-Mart video. It's scary what people are doing for these things. Personally, if you want my opinion - if you have a PS3 reserved at a EB/Gamestop/anywhere else that's doing a midnight opening, do NOT get your console that night unless you're going with friends. You're just asking for it right now.

Hell - I'm not even gonna get my Wii at midnight. I'll wait until daylight.

I'm really glad I'm not particularly interested in the PS3 or Wii.  Would be really frustrating right now.  The whole wait in line thing was fine once.

I'll probably get a PS3 down the road.  Maybe the Wii.  But not anytime soon.  (hopes he doesn't eat his words)

heard that ebay is going to come down hard with restrictions on system selling. Things like having to be an established member, minimum 98 approval rating and what not. I feel bad for all the guys waiting in line now who don't meet the ebay reqs.

The Gamestop I have mine reserved isn't doing a midnight sale, which I found extremely odd. The manager told me I could pick mine up at 10:00 Friday morning.

Pretty sure that is for pre-orders only, because it sounds exactly like what they emailed me when I inquired about pre-listing mine.

Yeah, I'd need a cite on that one.

If I manage to grab one from Costco I might even try a Craig's List local sale before trying the ebay waters.

A search of eBay's site turned up no pre-requisiites for selling an in-hand PS3, so I am about 99.9% sure what Tebunker was talking about was a pre-sale only.

From what I read, the 'conditions' go away tomorrow once it is generally available.

I just watched one on EBay go from $1826 to $3550 in the last five minutes of trading.   eek

I understand there is potential for danger, but in Bristol, I think we're pretty safe. Besides, I would have been armed and I am not exactly shrimpy looking, so I wouldn't have been too spooked. :slywink:

I just thought it strange that they wouldn't do that, when they did it for the 360 last year.

Denog, thats for Japan, so it has no relevance for us. I'm sitting here in my office monitoring eBay's PS3 pre-orders and here are the prices for the 7 listings that end the quickest:

$2,025.00
$1919.96
$2,175.00
$1,825.00
$1,625.00
$1676.01
$1,560.00

I'd say it's looking pretty good. icon_smile

Correction, the one that is $2,025.00 went up to $2,550.00 when I refreshed the page.

I was watching a bit and they are really shooting up in the last few minutes.

But I also noticed one winner with negative feedback for not paying recently, and some people who were way up there with 1, 0 or even -1 feedback.  Big reason my auctions always set to not accept bids from such users.

I really don't understand the people who will pay $1500+ for a game system they could get for less than half that price (and with more reliable construction after the initial revision) if they waited a mere few months.

Same here my man, in fact, I will be cancelling the bids of anyone with less than 3 feedbacks, so as to not have to worry about NPB's. I'm doing a 1 day auction, at $1.00, and will ship free of charge, next day air. My wife bets we get $2,900.00, I say $2,300.00. I will be happy with either amount.

Me either. I waited until April on the 360 and probably will wait at least until this time next year for a PS3 to keep.

Now that, I totally agree with.  A few hundred for the privilege of having it a bit early is understandable by me, but 3 times the amount?  Insanity.

I think alot of those people bidding on the preorders could be speculating too.  It might be different when there are thousands of actual PS3s hitting ebay Friday though.  It seems that many Japanese speculators aren't getting what they expected. So it's not a slam dunk.

I don't know how anybody could actually get a PS3 tomorrow and not sell it, if you could make $1500+ in profits!  It is a stupid game system!

Not so fast.

I think alot of those people bidding on the preorders could be speculating too.  It might be different when there are thousands of actual PS3s hitting ebay Friday though.  It seems that many Japanese speculators aren't getting what they expected. So it's not a slam dunk.

It's not a slam dunk, but the ball is falling through the bottom of the net, so it's as close as it could get. Also, when mom's and dad's can't find these for little Timmy tomorrow or Saturday, and they HAVE to turn to eBay, I think the bidding machine will really kick into high gear.

You know...the funny thing is...we have no idea what the REAL demand for PS3 is.

Well, regardless of what they are used for (gaming or selling), considering how many people are camping out for them and how many are being turned away, coupled with obvious shortages, I would say the demand will be on par with, or exceed, the 360 at launch.

Yeah...  I wouldn't spend any real amount of time waiting outside, but if I can grab one online it's about as risk free as you can get.  I'd wager that the chances of you not making money at all are about 0.

Sorry, I specifically meant (by "real demand") to indicate that we don't know how much of the demand we are seeing is profiteers and how much of it is people dying to play the system.

Ah, gotcha. I would say it's maybe 65/35, the 65 being people keeping it to play, but I will freely admit there is a ton of interest in selling this, more so than any other console. The kicker is, if there was adequate demand, and no money to be made, I would have no problem keeping mine.
