Less than 2 weeks to go!

Yes, I know there are many anti-PS3 people here who love their 360's (and I love mine as well) but I know there are some that will be getting a PS3!  thumbsup

Oh and here is a good deal for your new PS3. Get 50% off X-Men 3 on Blu-Ray when you buy a PS3 at Wal-Mart.

(while supplies last, which means for about 5 seconds)  icon_lol

Yeah, but you need to have to buy a 360 for the HD-DVD player to work, so $200 + $399 (or $299).....but you get King Kong free!   icon_biggrin

well I'm getting a PS3, but I'll be honest that I'm not too horribly excited about it.  There is actually only one game that is coming out at launch that remotely interests me at all...Resistance Fall of Man.  Everything else is either already out for the 360 or is coming out the same day.  Let's examine some of the launch titles.

MAdden 07 - August on the 360
Need For Speed Carbon - Got it this week on the 360.
Blazing Angels - Welcome to 6 months ago.
Tiger Woods 07 - October on the 360.
NBA Live 07 - Awful game to begin with, but it's been out for over a month on the 360.
Full Auto 2 - I can't believe the only real PS3 exclusive is the sequel to one of the worst 360 games.
Call of Duty 3 - Getting it next week on the 360.

I could go on, but the bottom line is if you own a 360, the PS3 launch is going to be a real snooze.

For the immediate future, if a game comes out on both systems at the same time, I'm going to stick with the 360 version for the simple fact that Sony's online component is still a big mystery and I am sure it's going to be a huge disappointment.  I guess I'll just watch my blu-ray copy of Talledega Nights and play Resistance for the first few months.

The only game that I am truly giddy about is MLB The Show 07, which is system seller for me.  The only reason I am buying a PS3 now is that I would be afraid if I didn't, I wouldn't have one when this game comes out in March.

Are there any retailers actually selling blu ray and HD dvd yet?  I haven't seen any at my Wal Mart and we live 50 miles from the nearest Best Buy and Circuit City.

You forgot:

Untold Legends
Genji
Ridge Racer 7
Motorstorm (December)

All exclusives and all (besides Ridge Racer) look very good. Ridge Racer looks good, but I'm not that big of a fan of the series.

Yeah, you're right...I may pick up Untold Legends as I loved it on the PSP.  Motor Storm was one I was real excited about until it got pushed back.  I don't care much for Genji and unless I hear rave reviews for Ridge Racer I will probably pass on it too.

I think the PS3 will be a great system...NEXT year, providing they get their online act together.  I'm really looking forward to Heavenly Sword and Eye of Judgement, but like I said the main attraction for me is the next gen version of the best baseball game on the planet.

They're everywhere down here.  Even the used CD places have them for sale.  I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the smaller, slimmer boxes though.

Are they priced the same as the regular dvds?  Just looking at Amazon, they seem to have the regular dvds and hd-dvds priced the same.  I was under the impression that the two HD formats were going to be higher than the regular dvds.

I'm getting the HD-dvd drive for the 360 on Tuesday and I'd love to find a HD-dvd version of Cars for it.

Cars is Blu-Ray only, since Disney (along with Fox) is only supporting Blu-Ray.

At Best Buy and Circuit City, Hd-DVD's and Blu-Ray are priced about $5 higher than regular DVD's. At Target and Wal-Mart, they are priced about the same as DVD's.

Oh I agree. Universal is only supporting HD-DVD as well. So you have Universal on one side vs Disney and Fox on the other. Warner, Paramount and New Line are supporting both formats. Fox and Disney are hoping that the PS3 will lift Blu-Ray to victory, since it has built in Blu-Ray support, while the you have to buy an add-on for the 360 to support HD-DVD.

You obviously don't have a HDTV then. smile

HD-DVD and Blu-Ray both look incredible on an HD set. Way beyond DVD.

I have to admit, the only interest I have in getting my hands on a PS3 this year would to be to resell it for profit. As a machine I actually want to play games on, I'm not interested for at least another 6 months.

Yeah, I knew different companies chose different formats, but I thought Disney chose HD-dvd.  I got it backwards.

Good luck on that. Expect to camp for 12+ hours.

I think all the people getting a PS3 to sell it are going to be flooding the market come November 17th. I don't think prices are going to be as high as some people think.

Hetzie, as lame as it sounds, I would camp out 12+ hours at the chance of making 500 bucks of profit smile I actually want a PS3, but the profit possibility is too good for me to pass up.

Flooding the market? Are you on crack? the US is getting what? 350 to 400 thousand units, that's less than the Xbox 360 and I believe the PS2 launches. It's going to be nigh impossible to flood that market until Sony gets the pipeline running. Which could as late as next summer. Nah, I don't think anyone who's getting one to sell will have any worries about actually selling it. Getting it is a whole nother story.

I ment that EBAYERS would be flooding EBAY with PS3's....more so than the 360. It seems like 80% of people that are buying it are just buying it to sell. It wasn't anything like that with the 360. If EBAY is flooded than the prices will go down.

I'm very meh to PS3.  Only one game (Resistance) appeals to me, but it sounds REALLY good.

If I were, from poorest to richest: ATB, The Sultan of Brunei, Bill Gates, Teh Gellar, I would definitely scoop one up.

That said, I might possibly be getting one at launch and if I can work the numbers or figure a way to afford it, I'll keep it.  In the likely event that I can't, I'll be attempting to sell it. Even if the market is flooded and I can get, say, 800.00 for it, that's still a 200 gain which almost covers a Wii and/or cushions the costs of our upcoming DisneyWorld vacation.

If, the market is so bad that I can't make any money on it, I'll sell it to someone here at cost + shipping and insurance + 25.00 for my time.

Well I'm excited about the new launch! Even though I'm not getting a PS3.  Still it's always fun when a new console comes onto the market isn't it? smile  I just read that the PS3 is being released here this Saturday in Japan.  I thought it wasn't coming out till December here.  Unfortunately I have to work on Saturday so I won't be able to go out and take pictures of the RIDICULOUSLY long lines outside of BIC Camera.

I feel like people are becoming interested in Resistance by default, there's nothing else whatsoever to get excited about or justify the price tag of the console. If Resistance was to be exclusive on the 360 this year, god forbid the same month as Gears of War, I don't think nearly as many people would care about it. Not to mention the developer, Insomniac, doesn't have any experience outside of the worlds of Spyro and Ratchet.

Yeah but that's pretty much true for all 360 releases thus far.  Would Saint's Row have sold as much if it weren't for 360 or if 360 released more than one 'major' game at a time?  Probably not.   People wouldn't even have talked about it.  It seems people all buy the same game, play it for a bit and then move on to the next...cause that's all they can do.

I would be interested in Resistance no matter what platform it's on simply because it's Insomniac and they kick all kinds of ass.  And considering that Ratchet & Clank has been more action than platformer since Going Commando, I think their core skills (fantastic weapon design and levels and enemies designed to ensure that you use your arsenal in creative ways) translate very well into a FPS.  Never mind the fact that their first game was a FPS (Disruptor).

I DONT EVEN WANT HD OR BLU RAY!!!!!!!

I am perfectly happy with DVD

i have nearly 800 DVDs,and am happy with the picture and sound, does the job for me

You obviously don't have a HDTV then. smile

HD-DVD and Blu-Ray both look incredible on an HD set. Way beyond DVD.

no but i live in england, where we have always had more 'lines' in our television screens, and therfore have always had a great picture...HD is good, but not as good a leap in quality than you guys get from HD

dont get me wrong, one day HD (tv at least)will come my way....just that there is absoloutley nothing to be tempting me at the moment

That is YOUR opinion. There are 400,000 other people that would disagree with that.
