The new custom themes feature for the PS3 rocks.  You get full control over wallpaper, icons, etc.  This guy over at NeoGaf - m0dus - has really created some spectacular themes along with others creating some really nice work too.  Also, have to give credit to the really resourceful NeoGaf custom themes thread - it's where I've pulled these screenies from.  Their thread - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=206386 - contains all the info you need to know on how to install and find themes.  It's easy to install them too - either install directly from the PS3 browser or use a USB device.  Here are some screenshots samples of some nice-looking custom themes:

Okay, now give us the ability to animate our PS3 wallpapers, and I'd say we're set.

Wait a second....so you don't have to *pay* for your backgrounds!?   (Are you listening Microsoft?)

Seriously, I pushed a "Don't Feed the Metroids" warning sign to my 360.

supposedly you can do custom wallpapers on the 360 if you have Vista on your PC (and maybe XP, but all I remember seeing mentioned was Vista).  of course if I what I think you mean by 'pushed' is the same thing then you've already figured it out.

yeah I was just looking at this thread on Neogaf the other day, it kicks ass

now as far as 360 backgrounds...I'm not sure what some of you are complaining about here.  you know you can set the dashboard background to whatever custom JPG you want right?  now if you mean making a true 360 theme by having a different one for each blade, then I don't think you can do that

m0dus at NeoGaf is an amazing artist, and each of his themes are of incredibly quality.

I'm partial to the Okami one, it is absolutely sexy.

Although, the sfere one (the somewhat simplistic design, with different colored bubbles) goes nicely with any custom background image.

Okami!!! (Christ, I need to finish the last 5 hours of that game already. So close and yet so far!)

Good God. Two threads in a row (along with the Drake's Fortune discussion) that make me want a PS3. MY WORLD AND ALL THAT I HOLD SACRED IS COLLAPSING AROUND ME! I'M SCARED AND CONFUSED!

Hold me, Ceekay.

Can I also mention that these themes are completely free?

You don't even need to grab them from PSN, just download to PC, put on a flash drive, upload to the PS3 and you have a new theme.  Speaking of which, I should work on a theme of my own.

Just to clarify.  Having a custom theme makes you want a PS3?

P.S. It doesn't so much make me want a PS3 as it does nudge me slightly closer to wanting one in spite of all the bad press, lack of games, and severe expense. But I won't be buying one until the thing is way cheaper or has a lot more games worth owning.

Not sure what theme I'll make.  I'll probably do a personal one, but what kind of themes do you guys want?  I can put my art skills to use at the same time providing some nice GT exclusive themes for you guys.

how about a 360 dashboard?  Tongue (it wouldn't surprise me if one's already out there like the Wii one)
