I've been looking forward to this one for some time. I know the dev teams pouring their hearts into it; the few times I've worked very late recently, most of the Radical office lights were are on when I drove by. It's also their 1st IP and from what I've heard they're taking this game very seriously.
This will be a day 1 for me and I'm still hoping to snag a freebie as a few co-workers have friends and relatives slaving away on it.

I keep getting this one confused with Infamous.  This is the really bloody one, right?  If so, I think I was leaning more towards Infamous.

It's not that I am against violence in video games or anything.  It's just that these games are so similar and it seems the Prototype guys went with bloody just for the shock value and not because of any pressing need.

While blood and guts don't bother me and I really enjoyed violent, bloody hack-and-slash games like God of War, I need a point to the madness, and so far Prototype doesn't seem all that compelling to me.  Violence merely for the sake of violence.  Hell, even Manhunt had some point to the madness.  While many didn't like the point, at least there was one.  So far Prototype seems like a lot of blood with little reason for it.  That is what turns me off.  Not the violence, but the lack of a point to the violence.  I want to know why I am consuming someone's insides.  Simply being able to do it isn't enough for me.  What is my motivation?  My inspiration?  What compels me to consume the living?  Fabulous

The reason you have for killing people and taking their minds should be obvious if you've read any of the previews. You're trying to figure out who did this stuff to you and why, and all the while they're attempting to take you down.

I did read the preview, and to be fair, there wasn't any mention of this in the preview CeeKay linked to.

From the preview:

Quote
...it's almost impossible to write anything fresh about the story because the bits that Activision has let out have been rehashed so many times -- you're Alex Mercer, you wake up in the hospital, you take to the streets and find you have all sorts of shape shifting powers, you also notice a bunch of infected people walking around and the military fighting them while trying to capture you. Luckily, I don't have to worry too much about talking story with you because the demo I played didn't have any.

Day 1 may be here sooner than expected.  It's releasing tomorrow for EU and street date may have been broken in the US!!

This from a guy posting on Gamespot:

Quote
That's right, i got it early, well yesterday to be exact, here are some pics to "proof" it.

http://i44.tinypic.com/28jv3np.jpg

http://i44.tinypic.com/wh4s2.jpg

http://i44.tinypic.com/15qu4w8.jpg

Operation street date: broken.

This has been getting some play on the web, but there's no pic of a receipt, so it could well be that someone popped it open for a display copy or somesuch.

As MonkeyFinger says, the photos show a copy of Prototype which has been rated "18+" by PEGI, the Pan European Game Information system.  They may be promising to Brits hoping to pick up the game a day early, but inspire only bitter, bitter jealousy in us Yanks. banned

*sigh* You know, I really was looking forward to this, but now I'm thinking of dropping my pre-order.  Honestly, I think it was the commercials for Infamous that made Prototype look like a game mod.  The more I dwell on it...the more I think I'll let someone else take the plunge.

I saw it on N4G and Blues News.  Both stories linked to the Gamestop forum.  They were stories from yesterday, though, and I haven't seen anything today.  Also, there's been no post of the receipt, so I'm sure this is a fluke and not a date break.

Oh man, so glad to hear that since this game looks like a blast to play. I've had it pre-ordered for the PS3 for about two week now, and I was getting the jitters since there has been barely any word on reviews or impressions or any some such. Out of curiosity, and I'm not sure whether you can say this or not, but are you reviewing 360, PS3, or the PC version?

Definitely Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.  It's the same development team, and people who had the pleasure of playing that phenomenal game will instantly recognize its influence on Prototype.  If there's ever been a game that better captured the sense of being an rampaging wrecking ball of unbridled fury, I've never played it.

Prototype would have my money if it were nothing but an updated port of Hulk: UD.  The fact that it's reportedly so much more, adding infiltration mechanics, gun play, vehicle hijacking, and even more epic unscripted chaos...this is one of my most anticipated games of the year! icon_cool

Hulk:UD has @ 84% on Gamerankings.  It was very well received.  By myself and pretty much anyone who played it.

This one wasn't even on my radar, until I watched the videos CeeKay linked above.  After that I couldn't possibly miss it, even though I have an ever-growing stack of games sitting unfinished.  The only other must-have for me is Ghostbusters, other than that I'm going to try and not buy anything else until around Christmas.

The only problem with that plan is that I may have to give up GamingTrend, which wouldn't be an easy task.  You guys point me towards so many good games I never would have even known about otherwise, Demon's Souls is a perfect example.  I'm not sure I could to that though, as this site is like my digital crack.  I can't seem to make it through my day without at least coming here once.

Where the hell are all the reviews? I'm not going to order this game until I'm sure it's good. It's usually not a good sign when release day arrives and there are no reviews online at all.
