oh,was that Prey?..which one was The Darkness then?,i keep getting the two mixed up Prey was the one with the Native American protagonist with weird portals and shifting gravity stuff. The Darkness had an Italian American protagonist with supernatural powers, weird tentacles and demonic little helpers.

looks like they ditched the whole native american thing. pity, it was so authentic you could feel the pain in your character's ancestry.

I never finished the original for the PC. I got to a certain point and couldn't figure how to progress, and really wasn't sold on the gameplay enough to bother figuring it out. I did like a few things about it, but unfortunately I got it around the same time as Bioshock.

Prey was one of the few FPS games I've enjoyed enough to finish, and I attribute lots of that to both the unique Native American overtones and the "ordinary guy thrown into a crazy situation" aspect. Replace all that with the lame Space Marine (which it looks like they've done) and I lose all interest.

You are a human bounty hunterthe game jumps forward, we're told, to a seedy alien planet that sounds a bit like the future Earth of Blade Runner. This is where the game really opens up, revealing the marshal as the only human on an alien planet working as a bounty hunter.
The game is meant to be an open world title with multiple ways to complete objectives, but at its heart it is still a first-person shooter, we're told. to note:all this isn't official info yet Reached for comment today, Bethesda declined to comment.

apparently they're also doing away with portals and gravity tricks. combine this with the earlier news that they're ditching the native american aspect, and i really need someone to explain to me why they're even bothering to call this a sequel to Prey...

That sucks, this looked cool despite the changes from the first Prey.
I wonder if this spells doom for Human Head then. It's always sad to see smaller developers just close up shop when a project disappears.

Yep, this game was looking very good mainly due to the changes they made. Who knows, they could get a deal elsewhere to publish the game under a different name.

this looked cool because of like generic Space Marine Shooter #528 and nothing like the first Prey (which was pretty unique).

i dunno the whole "bounty" aspect looked pretty neat in that "oddworld" knockoff sort of way... sans beebullets that is
(and by knockoff, i mean both of the "original" game, and in the "hey, lets turn this into a shooter" way - did that phrase make sense???)

The protagonist did look generic, but everything else (open world bounty-hunting, gadget-heavy "alien noir" epic) looked great.

Not to mention many game writers from across the gaming media sites all said that the gameplay slices they were shown were shaping up to be very interesting.
And let's face it, the original Prey, while interesting, was also very generic quake/unreal engine style "hey look at all this normal mapped crap we can throw in the engine."

Bethesda:Prey 2 not cancelledit has however been delayed until 2013,but that's better than nothing they certainly kept quiet for a month or so though Development of Prey 2 has not been cancelled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned. The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards. Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans. We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule. If you are a PS3 player,i guess that bolded part will make you laugh

I wonder if this has moved developers or what? I know Human Head was fishing for interest in Rune 2 on Facebook and such, so I assumed that they were looking down the barrel of no financial backing. Also, Bethesda Publishing has quality standards? Who knew?!

Yes, I'm replying to myself, but I see that ShackNews is reporting that Human Head hasn't actually worked on the game since November as they have tried to renegotiate the publishing deal. Yikes.

I say good for Bethesda. Finally, a publisher that's not willing to kick mediocre products out the door. I'm only curious as to what they considered too low quality about it, but if Prey 2 does see the light of day I'm confident now that it'll be a decent game.
