I'm going to echo what Devil said this game is AMAZING!! I played about 4 or 5 games and I'm just blown away by how much fun this game is. I'm not exaggerating even a little bit when I say that I've seem more variety of hits in one game then in all the time I"ve played The Show. The game just feels alive unpredetermined whatever you want to call it. I'm just blown away that I didn't even hear of this game until a couple of weeks ago. I just spent an hour doing fielding practice and enjoyed it! WTF!  icon_smile If you like baseball this is easily a must buy..

Ditto!!!

Best game of baseball i've played.

As Devil said, the stats at the end of each game is ridiculous.  Hit charts, pitching charts, pitch counts, etc.   Being able to see your pitch counts during the game is awesome as well.  The amount of stat tracking is unmatched in anything i have seen.   This game is a dream for a stat junkie.   Just phenomenal.

This game really really reminds me of RBI 2 in a sense in that it is relatively easy to pick up and play.   The defensive controls are what remind me of the old RBI games.   Diving for a ball is just one button touch away and whamo..... no extra animations, just a dive and slide toward the ball.   I also saw some injuries.   I had Johnny Damon make a sweet diving catch while running backwards into Fenway's Green Monster and he got injured.

Devil basically summed up the rest of the controls.   Super easy, yet deep and intuitive.   I only played on normal, but i suspect i'll be moving up to expert when i play a few more games.   I didn't play homerun derby yet, but it's in there.

Only big complaint i see is the out of date rosters.   Like Devil said, hopefully some of the OS folks make a good edit and we can change them.   And while the announcing is annoying, it is kinda funny at times.  Definitely geared towards kids in that aspect.   I can see myself getting use to it and not really being bothered by it.

So while an easy game to pick up and play, there's alot of things going on to make it a really deep and strategic game that the hardcore gamer will like.  This game is a gem that'll satisfy the baseball gamers needs.   Really reminiscent of the old RBI games.   Brings back good memories.

And btw, i have the PS2 flvor that plays without a hiccup on my PS3.

Wow.

How did I miss this thread until today?  I need to look into this game a bit.

Wait a second... is this an arcade game with cartoon players?  I don't get it.  Am I looking at the right game?

Ponchy -

You NEED this game!

It really is a great on all levels. While the graphics may put you off in the beginning, they actually add to the game in the end because you get so much out of the actual gameplay.

They better bring this game back next year!

I'm going to have to get an sd card and the reader so that I can download the rosters when they get made. That alone is going to give this game a ton of legs since they can just update the rosters for next season. I turned the announcer off after about 5 seconds. I almost never play with them on with any game though so that doesn't really mean much. I can't wait to get home and play some more. The only downer is that I only have time to play late at night because the tv is hogged most of the time. frown

Bad news for this...reading over at the Op Sports forums in the roster edit section that you might not be able to download a save with the Wii version...

Bummer not a game killer or anything though. Worst case is that someone posts what changes to make and I do it myself. Did you see the character for Manny on the Red Sox yet? It's great it has the hair and everything. smile They even have Valentines porn mustash on the Mets. smile

It's got a couple of 2 player modes using the Wii remote as a bat. Otherwise it's the same game. Only reason I got the Wii version is that I want to try and stick to using two consoles. The 360 and the WII.. And I only have one ps2 controller while I have two wii controllers. You can use the gamecube controllers as well btw.

Octa:
Funny - I did pitch a game with Weaver and he has that stupid hair in the game too.

I'm loving the style. In other games we seem to focus in on what's WRONG with the player models. With this game, we get all excited when we see which little things that they actually got RIGHT.

It's not to say that they got so little right, it's the opposite, more of a statement that I'm so happy with the amount of things they got correct and I was never expecting them.

Great game!

There has to be some differences.  I know both the PS2 & Wii versions do not support 480p and widescreen.  So the question becomes which version to get???  confused

I actually had some buyers remorse initially as i thought i should have bought the Wii version.   However, after playing, i'm glad i went with the PS2.   Looks great on my HDTV through the PS3 and i don't miss the Wii sensor stuff.   Maybe someone who has the Wii can comment more about it's particulars.   And again, at $29.99 it's an absolute steal.

And i agree the player models are outstanding.   I also like how they've captured each individuals players stances and nuances.

You also get credits after each game that you can spend in the store.   You can purchase alternate uniforms, different throwing styles (sidearm and 3 quarters) and different batting stances.   I also see where you can buy different players stances, such as A-Rod from a few years ago and the present.  All the little things that make it really cool.

And for those looking for the OS forums, check here http://forums.operationsports.com/vBulletin/cmps_index.php I think you might have to register to get access to all the forums, but it's well worth it.

Just read this and had to throw it in here: A good catcher can boost a pitchers performance in some situations.

Talk about realistic for a game who's players have no legs!  icon_biggrin

So far, it is amazingly fun.  I've played lots of versions of Power Pro, but they've always been imports, so I never really knew what the hell was going on.

With 8 hours in, I'm enjoying the game as much as the old World Series Baseball '98 for the Saturn (one of my all-time favorites).  Hopefully it'll hold up.

OK... a few more questions... feature stuff mostly:

1) Can you create players?
2) Can you edit stats of players?  (Do they even have stats?)
3) Can you create teams?
4) Is there a season mode?
5) Are there different camera angles?
6) How is the sound?  We've already established the announcers stink, but what about crowds, making contact with pitches, stuff like that?
7) Do the announcers say the player's names at least?

Thanks

Here ya go, A-hole:

1) Can you create players? Yes (through career mode thing)
2) Can you edit stats of players?  (Do they even have stats?) Yes (Yes. A whole bunch of them)
3) Can you create teams? Yes
4) Is there a season mode? Yes
5) Are there different camera angles? Yes
6) How is the sound?  We've already established the announcers stink, but what about crowds, making contact with pitches, stuff like that? They are OK. Why are you buying a baseball game for the sound, you clown?
7) Do the announcers say the player's names at least? Yes, in a horribly delayed manner in most places. "It's a line shot to.........Figgins....at 3rd base"

I play shortstop.  Mainly a line drive hitter.  Decent speed.  I could actually put the likes of Reyes or Jeter to shame.

Thanks Xmann for that info on the PS2 version.  Does anyone here have the Wii version?  I really want to know how it controls compared to the PS2 version.  I want to buy the Wii version.  It has to look and play better than the older PS2 version right?  I already read through the Op Sports threads and they were of little help in deciphering the differences between the two.

hey Devil or anyone else playing the PS2 version

what difficulty level you playing on?  playing on default settings in normal is way too easy for me after just a few games.   i'm getting double digit K's and usually scoring 8 to 10 runs.  is expert the way to go or can you tweak some of the normal settings to make it a bit more difficult?   i'm not sure i like not having the cursor off when pitching as it does while playing in expert.

Shifty - Wii and PS2 versions are exactly the same other than the Wii stuff with the HR derby etc. They both look and play exactly alike. Played one game of the Wii version before I took it back. I actually like the PS2 version because of the controller for this one.

X - I'm having a good time pitching (12 or so K's a game) on the normal settings, but my hitting is still coming around as the most I've scored in a game has been 5 (then again, I'm playing with the Angels). Found that the 'other' mode of pitching is less accurate (the one that isn't default, I forget what it's called) where you have to press the button for the pitch as the ring around the ball gets tighter to it. Probably want to bump it up to expert soon though anyway.

There is about a billion things to do in this game - I just spent a half hour in the Baseball Cards section!!

Picked it up for my son tonight. I usually learn it so i can teach him the basics. Then he proceeds to royally kick my ass every game from then on. Really. Doesn't look like the Wii remote is used for anything motion controlled, except for some special game types. This is a really deep, detailed game. It's going to take some time to really get our arms around everything it offers.

Anybody know what button you use to switch fielders? I try and try and can't figure out what button it is.  icon_mad I like this game more more as I play it. Last night I played the Yanks with my Mutts. I had Endy up to bat with Clemens pitching. Man was on second with 2 outs. Clemens hangs a breaking pitch up in the zone and right before I swing I hit the big swing button and then unload on the ball. I ended up hitting a screaming line drive to dead center that went over the CF's head scoring the run. Great stuff!! I also had Wright kill a ball to right field that hit the top of the wall for a double. Watching the guy round first and then dive headfirst into second seemed so natural. I'm using the expert pitching mode btw and I think it works a lot better then the classic mode which I found to easy.

Best baseball game ever!

Last night against the Sox, up by 1 in the 9th, Ortiz leads off with a double, CPU Pinch runs Cora for Ortiz, moves Cora to 3rd with a Manny ground out, then squeezes Cora home!! JERKS!!! icon_wink

I lost in extra innings.

BEST. EVER.

I was thinking last night about the short list of things I would change in this game:

1) 480p and 16x9
2) Announcer
3) Bullpen
4) Downloadable Rosters

Off the top of my head, that's it.

Really loving this!

From one of those writeups:

No true player-edit mode
The only way to create players is through the Success Mode (see below), with no way to edit existing players. Many of the stat issues mentioned above could have been easily addressed with an Edit mode, but without the only real way to do it is to completely replace a player by creating them from scratch, playing them through all of Success Mode, then replacing the original player on the appropriate team roster.

This would put a big damper on what I would like to do with the game.  Bummer!

You can edit.

Not that I've tried yet but there's a whole thread at Op Sports dedicated to making changes to the 'Top 100' mistakes and ratings errors in the game.

Pretty sure you can create a team too.

Along those lines, I'm pretty sure you can even change the pitch selection that a certain pitcher favors when the CPU is controlling him. Like if, for some reason, Wakefield is throwing all fastballs, you can go in and change it to 90% knuckleballs. Cool.

Did you get the game yet?
