This thread inspired by Tebunker's backlog post.

I figured it would give everyone a place to post how insane they are (like myself), as well as a support group to help people clear out their backlog in 2007!!!  Also, sometimes it's nice to hear "that game sucks, don't bother".

I've included "Games I want to play first" in the case of stuff I owned, but have not played the game which comes before it (sequels, mostly).  Marked them with *

[GBA] (incomplete list)
Golden Sun 2

[GameCube]
Baten Kaitos
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
Geist
Pikmin*
Pikmin 2
Second Sight
Viewtiful Joe*
Viewtiful Joe 2

[PC] (incomplete list)
Darwinia (in progress)
Grim Fandango
Homeworld
Mafia
Neverwinter Nights 2 (in progress)
Quake 4 (in progress)
Rise of Legends (lost interest, will probably trade)
Thief (started long ago, lost interest during "funhouse" level)
Thief 2
Titan Quest (in progress... but losing interest)

[PSX]
Fade to Black
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy Tactics
Ogre Battle
Suikoden
Tenchu
Vagrant Story
Vandal Hearts
Wild Arms 2

[PS2] (have a few more PS2 games I loaned to friends, need to get them back)
Brotherhood of Steel
Darkwatch
Death by Degrees
Demon Stone
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X-2
Front Mission 4
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
I-Ninja
Killer 7 (in progress)
Max Payne 2
Resident Evil Outbreak: File #2 (not really sure I care to get into RE, however)
Robotech Battlecry
Time Splitters
Transformers
Xenosaga*
Xenosaga II

I only consider games to be "backlog" if I haven't played them at all or not to my idea of completion (not necessarily to 100%, just until I have gotten my fun out of it).  With that in mind, almost all I have are some PS2 titles I bought on the cheap but don't have a PS2 to play them on:

Lego Star Wars 2 (played about 1/4 of it so far)
    Ratchet & Clank 1,2,3
    Sly Cooper
    God of War

I would like to proclaim myself the backlog nut. I probably enjoy collecting games more than playing them.

Chaoz, may I suggest a clearing out the backlog sales thread? Either that or take a couple weeks of vacation and get humpin on that list.

Yeah, I can't really do this.  It'd take at least an hour to type the backlog up.  Fortunately, it didn't get much larger last year.  I didn't buy many games last year other than the annual installment of NCAA Football and a few games that had dropped to $15 and that I judged were in danger of disappearing entirely.

I'm really not the type to sell anything. Once in a while, I dig out a game, play a little while and reshelve it. Besides, since I almost never buy games at full pop, my backlog didn't really set me back all that much (relatively speaking)

Also, a couple of weeks vacation would not put a dent in my backlog. Just naming three titles would set me back more than 200 hours - Baldur's Gate 2, Disgaea, and Planescape Torment. I'm hardcore in game ownership, but casual in time devoted to games. biggrin

Re: Kobra:  You will notice that the majority of the games in my backlog are AAA titles. I don't collect them because of pretty boxes, but because they represent the best of the best in gaming. And what's wrong with collecting for collecting's sake? People collect lint for crying out loud!

Metroid Prime

Harvest Moon : Magical Melody
Tales of Symphonia
Skies of Arcadia Legends

As a former backlog junkie, I'm pleased to report my new and improved backlog:

Xbox:
-empty-

console retired and sold

Xbox 360:
Battle for Middle Earth II (on 7th Good campaign mission- it has gotten better- but man, the controls..)
Call of Duty 2 (two more campaigns and I'm done with this one-up and down overall quite solid)

DS:
Meteos
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Trauma Center: Under the Knife
Phoenix Wright: Justice for All (2nd Case)
Hotel Dusk (just begun)

PS2
God of War
Chrono Cross
Resident Evil 4
Metal Gear Subsistence
Dragon Warrior VIII (doubt I'll ever finish; close to retirement)
Killer 7 (almost done!)

I consider a game on the backlog if I own it and it's not 'completed' (ie. played through and or retired/sold without completion)

I can kind of understand that.  There's a certain enjoyment from getting a good deal on things.  Knowing you got a game selling at $50 for $30 by creative use of sales is pretty fulfilling.  So is getting a game you really wanted for $10.

But the downside is that sometimes the 'thrill of the hunt' gets out of control, and you end up collecting stuff you will never use.

Yeah, ask my mother in law and her 1,400 thimble collection.. THIMBLES!!!!  Not something that you can actually resell, or even have much use for.. We're talking something about as useless as bread crumbs to most people.

1,400.. I have to be careful not to knock any over when we are there, the things litter the house.  saywhat

LOL, my friend's mother collects umbrellas.  Something else as well, but I forgot what (I think it's decorative plates).

When I see those people giving away those 1000+ item video game collections... I really think that's a level of insanity I'm trying to avoid.  I had to read "Walden" in High School, and it's really one of those books which I'm grateful having been exposed to.  I always try to remember Thoreau's line about how your possessions eventually possess you.

Oh yeah... and my mother used to collect furniture of all things.  She had a whole room filled with china cabinets, couches, and dining room sets.  You couldn't even walk in there.  And, it wasn't even antique furniture, it was just stuff she got for a low price.  That's... just... sick.

My wife and I always say "We collect money", and laugh about it.  Sheesh, might as well have a collection that will work for you, not against you!  The WORST collection I have seen was the belly-button-lint collection.  Some people are diseased with collecting.  I got a buddy that is like 35, and collects of all things, fucking Pokemon cards, I swear he has blown something like 20K on the shit.

I don't really like posting my backlog because it just makes me sick to know how many actual unplayed games I have. The worst part is that most of them are RPGs.

I like to see other people's backlogs though, some of them make me feel better  icon_biggrin

No backlog here either...  Since I got the 360, I decided I'd buy, play, sell (with few exceptions) and move onto the next game.  I'm trying to get a couple games off EBay for cheap; I'd go the Gamefly route if everything there wasn't a short wait currently...

I don't really worry about finishing games, so I guess I really don't have a backlog.  I play a game until I get bored with it, then move on.  If I finish it, great.  If not, no big deal.  Sometimes I go back to games later, but I very rarely get the "I have to finish this!" urge.
