Actually the shipping date was today- er, Tuesday the 7th, and I haven't heard anything about any stores breaking the street date.  I should have my copy Wednesday afternoon.

I'm buying this day 1 so I can give my impressions.  Overall I really enjoyed CoD 2 and the main thing I wanted of CoD3 was a similar experience with split screen multiplayer over live and co-op.  Also I wanted a more in depth mp mode beyond deathmatch, HQ, and ctf games.

I got the split screen live multiplayer and the in depth MP mode, I'm pretty sure there's no co-op, but 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

I'm actually buying this instead of GoW simply because of the 4 player split screen multiplayer.  I'm still renting or buying GoW depending on how my finances are tomorrow.

Doubt the 1Up review will be good since one of the guys in the podcast had nothing to say at all about CoD3 while going out his way to praise CoD2.

I have it on preorder and will be picking it up this afternoon......  I am glad that I have already run through GoW once so now I can mess with CoD3 and not feel guilty about having 2 new games......

Overall, I think its a great game.  The multiplayer is fantastic and the peer to peer nature of it means that you won't have to rely on somebody's weak ass cablemodem to handle 24 players.  I'm finishing my review today.  I'm writing it as we speak.

Is it worth the cost new for SP alone?  That is what I need to know.  I never play MP.  As long as 2, shorter, as good, etc?

I'd have to say to wait until its price drops before buying it for single player alone.  Traditionally, the campaigns in CoD don't have much replayability or longetivity.  They're easy affairs where you simply shoot shoot shoot, and shoot more.  Well, you can enjoy the set piece battles though.

Played most of the first mission and I love it already.  They really toss you (ahem) right in to the action.  thumbsup  I love the CoD games and I'm torn between this one and GoW for playtime.

1up and the Windows for Games magazine are trying to break the mold of the 7-9 scale and actually use 5 as "average".  So this score equates to around an 8 or so.  It's confusing as hell and just seems to be pissing readers and devs/publishers off alike.  7 is average.  It's been engrained in our brains since 1st freaking grade.  There are several debates going on about it over on QT3 with a few of the editors from 1UP.

Played through a bit of the single-player.  Feels like call of duty.  Like being able to throw grenades back at people.  The multi is fun, will be MUCH MUCH MUCH more fun with a group of GT'rs and OO people playing.  Tired of listening to idiots already.

Love it so far, but I'm not a big fan of the German Rush.  You know, that thing you've seen in videos where a German jumps out at you and you have to fight him for your weapon and knock him down.  Goes on a bit too long, and it's a break in the action, instead of an intense addition like it should be.

Played the first three missions and while typical CoD, I am just chomping at the bit to get back to it.   I will say the graphics are definitely improved, the sound is the same, action feels about the same intensity, and lastly the characters actually seem more fleshed out to me.  I think I will actually care about some of them this time and that has never happened in one of these games.

I rented it and since I am only interested in the SP, I think I made a good decision.  I can't see me playing it again any time soon.  Just too much like the others I guess.

Very good game for sure and I agree it is about an 8.

The grapple war with the germans does get old really quickly.  They should have shortened the duration of those by about half.  On the other hand, some of the encounters can be avoided by grenading the area where they may be lurking.  I'm pretty sure all of those are scripted, at least I haven't seen a random one yet.

That may have more to do with the fact that I tend to toss grenades everywhere I can.

I'm kinda glad I still have this game unopened and still have the recript, with how GoW has captivated me and the need to get Viva Pinata for my little sister, CoD3 could wait for now.  After all, the SP game is basically the same as any other CoD game.  I'll return it in exchange for VP and rent it to try it out and see if it really can compete with GoW.

So far, the CoD campaign is more of the same whereas GoW is new and has a more interesting story.  About the only thing CoD3 has on GoW is 4 player split screen multiplayer.

ok got the game today, although  the single player is good, nothing great...the multiplayer is prolly one of the best on LIVE,the maps are fantastic, the only thing i am upset about is that it loses the cat and mouse of COD2,but i guess thats to be expected with 24 players now...with all your team mates now in the top right hand corner when they speak,i havent had fun on LIVE like today for a long time

Got a few hours of playtime in over the weekend.  It's more of the same with some tweaks.  Graphics are better and it looks like there are going to be more POV's this time around (I'm 3 chapters in and have been 3 different characters).  They've made some action more interactive, like when you plant a charge you have to a button, rotate the thunbstick a bunch of times and hit another button.  Nothing real annoying with those situations (so far at least!). It feels like I'm dying more than I did in CoD2, and I keep on wanting to take cover like in GoW or the R6 demo  icon_lol I haven't tried MP yet, hopefully this week for that.

I'm actually finding the MP maps to be a little too big, but it may be that I haven't played with more than six or maybe eight players.  So, even in the situations where cat and mouse is possible, there's a lot of boring sniffing for the mouse.  None the less, the MP is fun.

I'm enjoying this game quite a bit but it seems to be a little unpolished in places...at least on the single-player side.  Is there no way to skip the cut-scene before each mission?  When I load up the game and continue from my last check point it makes me sit through the mission intro each time.  Not critical but certainly annoying.  The A.I. tends to like to run right in front of my line of fire quite a bit...especially the French guys.  Perhaps they're just running ahead trying to surrender or something.  icon_wink  At any rate I've had to repeat some sections a couple times due to the 'no friendly fire' policy and their boneheadedness.

But overall it's another solid CoD game.  When you're charging across a battlefield, tossing smoke grenades and diving in to blast craters the audio/visual feedback is amazingly submersive.

I need to amend my previous post.  The friendly A.I. in this game stinks.  It regularly runs directly in front of my gunfire (subsequently failing missions) and will run right past Germans (who don't shoot at the A.I.) leaving them to unload a clip on me as soon as I step foot in a room.  I played thorugh CoD2 right before this one came out and this stuff just didn't happen.  I'm having to replay missions over and over because the A.I. will do something like run right to where I just threw a grenade or run right in front of my line of fire.  It's all making me just to go back and finish out the last few missions on Vetern in CoD2.  :icon_confused:

I've also had several times where the A.I. misses a trigger and just sits in one spot and won't move forward.  This leaves me to move ahead to  hopefully survive long enough to hit the next trigger.  If I make it my squad will come running up and finally start helping out again.

Perhaps it's because environments all feel smaller this time and there are more sqaudmates crammed in to them.  Something is different and it's seriously cutting in to my enjoyment of the game.  That's a real bummer because CoD2 was brilliant, IMHO.

*EDIT:  Well I just found out that the developer was different for 3.  These are the guys who did CoD: The Big Red One and Ultimate Spiderman.  No wonder the game feels different.  Oh well, here's hoping Infinity Ward does part 4.

i have 2 missions to do on single player...its been good, but as jancelot says your team keep getting in your way

example,my team were following me through a doorway...germans saw me and threw a grenade may way, damn squad wouldnt get out of my way when i wanted to get back through the doorway to avoid the grenade, and i died...also they tend to just leave you to it when searching a house...but i like the single player, and yeah having to watch the cut scenes again are a drag

Had some free time to finish this one on the 360 today.

All I can say is "meh".

I played the first two CoD games on the PC, and replayed CoD2 on the 360.  I was pretty excited when I picked up CoD3.

The game has some great things going for it, namely the wonderful graphics.  While not the best I've seen on the 360, it's certainly up there.  The rolling French hills and towns are gorgeous to look at and the forest is pretty nice too. thumbsup
I also really like that the game focuses entirely on one big battle from different sides, U.S.A., Britain and for the first time Canada and Poland (nice!).  Some people complained about the lack of variety, but I like the idea of just dealing with one region and the different operations that took place there in a short period of time.  thumbsup

Now the cons.  First, AI.  Enemy AI isn't bad, but your allies stink.  I was frequently blocked from taking a shot or running away from a grenade because teammates would be standing directly in front or behind me.  They also take little action against enemies.  Several times I observed a soldier running to my position assuming he was friendly since my teammates were holding their fire.  Nope!  The enemy would run right up to me and start firing while my teammates would stand around looking the other way.  thumbsdown
Another con is the level design.  They look gorgeous and open, but they're actually rather claustrophobic.  Your path is set, with just a few token choices thrown in where you can select between routes.  The indoor areas are downright nasty.  They're very dark and I constantly would get caught up on furniture and debris that I couldn't see.  Most FPS tend to let you slide around objects, but in CoD3 if you walk into the edge of a chair you come to a dead stop.  Pretty bad when you're trying to duck grenades.  thumbsdown

I didn't even give MP mode a try.  Worth a rental for CoD or shooter fans, but I'm selling this one off.

Win95 score: thumbsupthumbsup + thumbsdown + thumbsdown = 0

The game is certainly a mixed bag.

It's fun, but has elements that I really do not like.

First and foremost are respawning enemies.  It happens in certain areas but not in others.  If I'm trying to advance on a barn or house and I shoot the guys in the windows or on the upper balconies, unless I actually advance on the house, they will respawn and keep respawning.

However, the opposite holds true too.  If you actually make a mad dash to the house, not only will those enemies not respawn, but your team will wipe out any enemies that you bypassed on the way.  Completely obliterating them.  Once I figured this out, it became a very different game.

I don't like missions that take place at night or in the dark, and this game has that too.

The compass is handy though and you never feel lost as it always indicates where your next objective is.  That being said, it'd really be impossible to get lost since you really only have 1 way to go most of the time.

If it came out when there wasn't so much else out, it'd probably do well.  But it doesn't hold up next to the other titles released around the same time.

I agree with the mixed bag theory but for me it has more cons than pros. OVerall I did love the towns and how you go under, over, and through all of them. The missions are huge and it's cool how sometimes you get to choose which path you take, though it all ends up in the same place. But in terms of bad there is absolutely nothing here we haven't seen done better elsewhere. The audio is awful on the Xbox which is stunning for a Call of Duty game. As horrendous as "Finest Hour" was at least it managed to get the sound right. On the Xbox version I had to turn on subtitles to understand what was going on because the "directional audio" was so poorly implemented that major characters like the American Sarge you couldn't hear even if you were practically standing on his face.

The enemy AI was decent but nothing special. The friendly AI I kept trying to shoot just to get them out of my way. They kept standing in front of me or pushing me out of their way and into enemy fire, which was really fun when you had to go back through a lengthy amount of mission since the previous checkpoint was half an hour back. Overall, I give it a D+. Don't even bother with it.
