Playstation 3 becomes even slimmer - no price drops on older models

it could be, and it may be revealed at Gamescom next month.  Eurogamer is kind of vague about the size difference:

Buried within the various test results and charts is an image that shows the 4000 model with a new FCC label position. This image is above and, below alongside images that show the 3000 model and the original PS3 model.

I guess picture 3 in the slideshow is the 4000 while pic 1 is the Slim and pic 2 is the original release?  I'm also guessing the diagrams aren't to scale, so judging any size difference is hard.

While i don't really see the point in a new model this late in it's life(although saying that they did say the PS3 life would be 10 years),i do quite like the look of this,especially stood up,although i never stand up my consoles

So for U.S.,you have a 250gb or 500gb,in PAL territories you have either a 12gb flash drive model or the 500gb model(you can put in a HDD yourself if you get the 12gb Flash drive model)

The 250GB PS3 will be available in the US on September 25 for $249, or for $270 as part of a limited edition bundle featuring Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Game of the Year Edition and a voucher for more than $30 worth of bonus digital content for DUST 514. The 500GB PS3 will launch in the States on October 30 for $299.

man, if they had cut the price I might have replaced the household PS3 that died about a month ago, but now I'm going to wait and see what holiday bundles there are.

Really Sony?  Talk about milking the cow.  I mean slimmer is nice and all, but to offer it at full price with no added features?  I guess if I had upgraded to a slimmer house recently, I might be convinced to buy this slimmer PS3.

Looks like it's just begging to have the BR lens accumulate dust buildup unless it's easily cleaned or recessed somehow.

I have always liked the disc entrance on the PS3 and was hoping that the 360 slim was to have the same thing(wasn't to be),this new one kinda goes back to the PSOne when you placed the discs onto the centre rotation thing((<<official name for it,honest!!)

yeah very,but FWIW i have never needed to clean any of my lenses on my Disc Based consoles,but i know a lot of people have needed to

Yeah I would hate this. Why expose things to the "elements" like this. And on top of that, it's pretty ugly!;)

Sony explains missing PlayStation 3 price drop on old models, EU exclusivity of Flash memory version

The new PS3 models cost $270 and $300, respectively. The older models -- the $250 160GB model, and the $300 320GB model -- will not get price drops. So ... what gives? "There's no price drop formally, but the thing that's been happening in the market over the last year or so is that there's been so many retail price promotions, and so many different gift card offers and all those things, being done by all of us (Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony), that we've heard from our consumer, 'Enough with all these weird price moves. What we really want is content and games and value,'" Koller says. Though we can't imagine many (any?) consumers complaining about price drops on things they want to buy, Koller stands by his assertion. He also admits that his answer is, "kind of a long way of saying 'no, no formal price drop,'" and that there are only so many units of the older models left on store shelves.

Are people really confused by all the store deals where you get a gift card or a free game with your console purchase? This isn't a new concept. So that sounds like BS reasoning to me.
