Playboy interview with John Carmack

For those of you who might not know Carmark is the guy who did the original castle wolfenstein and then all the Doom's including Doom 3. Question #14 says.

Playboy: Seriously, which is better, Xbox or Playstation 2?

Carmack:  Xbox. Without a doubt.

Well my guess is his sole reason for that is because of the hardware. My understanding is he isn't much of a gamer in general. I think is idea these days of leasure time is working on that rocket design he is a part of.

That's kind of a no-brainer coming from him, isn't it?  The guy has created nothing but graphic intensive FPS games his entire career.  The X-Box has more graphic power, hence he considers it a "better" console.

I remember reading an interview with him where he basically said he could care less about how the game plays, as long as it looks good.  He just creates the engines and lets someone else create the story and gameplay.  Personally, I'm the complete opposite.  If it plays good and has a great story, I could care less how it looks.

Yeah, I am one who is more interested in the story and gameplay then the graphics too. But, it's also nice to have all of them. Also, you can have 2 out of the 3 and still have a great game. I think Final Fantasy X, gameplay is marginal at best but the story and graphics make it a classic. I think he was just comparing the Xbox on a purely game designer basis. Carmack also thinks sonic the hedgehog is the greatest video game ever, so perhaps he isn't the best source.
