from Paradox, it sounds like this could be close to the next Pirates!.  yeah, it's a horrible reveal trailer, but they got info below it:

•Battle it out with rival pirates and nations on both land and sea
•Experience life as a pirate through three campaigns and eras

I've never tried a Pirate game as every review I have read on them points out some serious flaws. It would be nice if this broke the string.

well, this is out this week. the main site makes it sound like it may be a little less serious:

    * Battle it out with the forces of Black Cove and other colonial nations on both land and sea
    * Select your character from several different Pirate Captains, each with their own unique skills and features
    * Make creative use of some of he wackiest land and sea based weapons ever to grace a Pirate world
    * Varied units and weapons allows You to carry out the battles as You see fit

They released a demo a few weeks back.  I haven't played it, but the response to it on QT3 wasn't that great.  Sounds very much like more an arcadey title.

Watched some gameplay footage on youtube....looks very arcadey

Gamespot gives it a 3.5 in their review.  Not a good score, but it is a full two points higher than what they gave Street Cleaning Simulator.

I tried the steam demo last night and uninstalled the demo right afterwards. The game is way too arcadey for my taste. The graphic is nice but as for gameplay, I'd rather go back to Sid Meier's Pirates! remake.

It's getting hammered for being a buggy, unpolished mess on the Paradox forums.  It seems MANY players are having major crash problems and the game isn't really balanced at this stage.  From all accounts, it's fun when it works, so it may be worth looking at if/when it's patched up.
