I've never preoredered a game before, but I am seriously thinking about preordering Pirates (PC). I noticed that the description of the LE on ebgames says that it comes with the original game and special mods available only on the LE. Does anyone know if we will be able to run the original game on WinXP? ALso, anyone know anything about the special mods?

No idea, but it's (the LE) suppose to be a preorder only deal. Not sure if that's true or not, but I read it somewhere.
Since it's going to be the same price as the regular version though, I don't see why someone wouldn't preorder it if it's truly limited.

I'm weak, I had a small supply of expendable cash, I pre-ordered the LE. I don't know anything more than the description, but the extra mods were what sold me (even though I know they'll probably be widely available after the game's released). It's quite a ways away, but I'll definitely be posting information when I get the game.

I still own the original Pirates! for the PC. Well, more accurately, my brother does. What an awesome and simply perfect little game.

There was an interview in HomeLAN about Pirates that featured this quote: We will, however, have downloadable content and an online community. Players will be able to download new skins for the player character and other models in the game. You will also be able to customize your ships with new flags, hull textures, and sail emblems.
So maybe the extra mods are extra flags and pirate skins and stuff like that.

In the meantime, may I heartily recommend Port Royale 2? It's great fun.

I never have played the original Pirates (that I remember)...don't know what's wrong with me. I can't find a copy now but I have more than enough to play anyway and I'll have to take a look at the new one coming out.

The original game was incredibly elegant. While it was seemingly a "simple" game it incorporated quite a few features for its time, I think. It was very addictive. There was always another carrot to stretch for, even if it was really they same one you'd just worked so hard to get. Didn't matter. My wife and I both spent seemingly endless hours with this one.
I only hope they don't overcomplicate things too much. It was a very easy game to play and feel like you'd done well yet not easy to get a killer score at. I'd hate to see it become a game a beginenr couldn't pick up and play.
