Picking up your Halo 3 today.......

I suggest you open it and check it before getting home. I picked mine up from Wal-mart and got to my car and since I had a moment to kill, I decided to open it. When I was removing the tape and plastic, I heard lots of rattling, which is usually NOT a good sign. Sure enough, BOTH discs (I bought the Limited Edition) were loose, off their holders, and scratched all to heck. I took it back in, went to Customer Service, and the lady told me they had several returned for the same thing, motioning to a stack of 8 Limited Edition Halo 3's, on the counter behind her.

So, when you get your game, open it in the store or the parking lot and make sure it's ok, because the Limited Edition's disc holders don't appear to be doing a very good job.

   Daehawk already did a thread about the discs coming 'pre-scratched'.  Hopefully they put the regular edition in the regulary cases so I won't have to worry about it.

I'm picking up the LE today after work, so I'll tell you how my copy fared (and yes, I'll be returning it if it's scratched up).

I should receive my preordered copy of the Limited Edition from BestBuy.com sometime this afternoon, and I'll be heading straight to Best Buy if when I open it I find scratched discs (there are a few DVDs I'm planning to grab today, anyway).  I continue to be amazed by how often something as simple as an appropriate game case can be completely screwed up.  A company can develop such a phenomenal gold mine of a franchise, and yet they can't even put a copy of the most recent game in appropriate packaging.  It confuzzles the mind. 

I mean seriously.  How do you screw up something so simple?  A game that has been three years in the making, one of the most hyped and publicized video game releases in history, and you wrap it up in the equivalent of toilet paper and glass shards.  Well done.

Went to get my preordered copy of the regular edition at Best Buy.  I was semi-interested in checking their copies of the collector's for a non-rattling version.  First thing I noticed in the store is that they had, two big stacks of the Legendary version.  After some soul-searching about whether or not to grab one, I went looking for the collector's editions.  They had them all behind the counter, and I didn't feel like asking them for a pile so I could shake each one, so I just got my regular edition.

They had plenty of each version, the lines were short (nonexistant for online order pickup).  I feel very good about not having preordered at EB, plus I got a $20 points card for $5.

I don't know why I even bother to preorder games when I could just walk into Best Buy and pick up a copy at my leisure.  Although I'm at work, anyway, so I would only be able to stare at my copy while awaiting the end of the work day, only to go home to be greeted by two hyper puppies with little time to actually play the game, but damnit I want my copy in my hands now.

Got mine at Fry's around noon. I tried to test out the shaking the box theory, but they all rattle. My 'extras' disk has some very minor scratching, the game disk was held just fine. Now if I can just find the time to play.

I picked mine up at Walmart at lunch.  I guess they were open at midnight last night, but I didn't care that much.  What was weird is that they escorted me and another buyer up front and had an employee stand with us until the cashier was clear.  Seemed awfully inefficient.

Preordering something like this game is pointless.  Mass Effect, however, I probably will preorder just because I'm not as confident in mass overproduction as I am with MS' premier holiday title.
