IGN didn't actually seem clear about how that picture was supposed to be oriented.  Didn't MS say they were trying to make the 360 more portable?  Could that be a collapsable carrying handle?

That smaller button looks like a release clasp for that entire panel.

Another picture (showing possibly the full left side in a prototype non-chromed version) is available via Team Xbox

Here is the pic:

Put that alongside the chrome one on Our Colony (which Eco-Logic provided) and this pic:

and you may have the front and side of the new Xbox.

For some reason this design reminds me of the Dreamcast.  It definitely appears more "Japanese."  If this actually is the final design, I greatly prefer this to the original Xbox.

Its awesome. I really really like it. It also would appear, since there are no very obvious controller ports, that the controllers may indeed be wireless.

Here's a high res pic of the front, from IGN. It looks exactly like rumours I had heard about the unit, mainly that it is a slim, concaved white console. Me likes, whether it's real or not.

In the first pic AgtFox posted, it appears to show the hard drive mounted on top.  At least it looks to me like it says "40GB" and even had a drive access light.  I am guessing the top snaps off revealing the connector for it to snap right on.  Of course that might have been mentioned in one of the many articles, but who can keep up with the rumor mill?

That is one big power button.  Still, that looks like it will be much slimmer and art-deco than the industrial black box that is the current Xbox.  How's that for taking a page out of the "Sony Style" manual Tongue

Team Xbox hints at the fact that the power button does more than we know. Wonder if it has something to do with the 360 motif.

All right, speaking of Patents, take a look at the one for this controller.  Integrated audio mic and speaker, as well as video?

Ok, I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that the big ring around the power button won't light up all at once, but will light up starting at a point and making a circle, a '360' or some gimick.

If so it would only be four steps. Assuming of course that these images are real and accurate.

I was thinking that it would spin so that either way you placed the box, the button would be oriented correctly.

The green wheel to me looks like an iPod scroll wheel, and the darker portions of the lights are at compass points, so I'm guessing functionality for the Tivo-like properties of the 360, or touchsensitive traditional video controls: play, pause, ffw and reverse.

You might see a dev kit, possibly not the final look of the final system.

Yeah, I don't most developers have access to final unit, or even a debug system.  Supposedly the dev-kit is just a Mac G5 or whatever that slick new Mac is (I don't really follow them).

Someone posted this shot on QT3.  If this holds up it may be inadvertently answering the backwards compatability question:

That is just downright silly. First of all the lines are drawn significantly in from the ends of the dvd drive (the PSTwo is an example of how small the opening can be), second the xbox drive has quite a bit of extra room around the dvd-if front loading cds have taught us anything its that if the DVDrom is just barely big enough for a cd to get into it will fit.

Again if it holds up (and Rage has some excellent points on why it might not) then having the two fit so snugly together would seem to imply that there is either no BC or it will only be through the Hard Drive add-on.  If it was fully BC out of the box why would you need to have both in the same entertainment center?

The concave design looks terrible and is only slightly better than the convex one of the original.  Make it flat and usable instead of clever and annoying.  I want it to blend in with the rest of my HT equipment not stick out like some tacky "kewl" toy.  This thing looks like something Nintendo would come up with (I loathed the Cube design for the same impracticle design choices).  Rectangular, flat, slim, black.  Thank you.  I wish I could stick the X-Box guts in the PS2 housing.  I'd finally have the design and the games I like.  Grr.

CINEMAGIC on XM!

The more I think about it and the more I see it in print I'm really starting to like the name "Xbox 360".  It does seem to have impact and the number 360, at least in my brain, implies "large," "advanced," and "new."

Think about what the third iteration could be called:   Xbox 720 followed by the Xbox 1440.  I like it.  It's different and it isn't the boring old 1, 2, 3.... smile
