oh nice, you can download the beta trial from the 360 marketplace on october 11th....how cool is that......one thing though,i am expecting this download to be a little more than 1 gig....its gonna take forever to download

good to see that they have a beta for all those people, just like FF11 did(although that came on a disc from OXM)

i would have to really like the game though to carry on,as i am paying monthly for final fantasy 11,and i dont want 2 monthly outgoings on MMOs...i still have the PC trial disc for word of warcraft that gives me 14 free days i havent tried yet

actually i only have 6gig left on my hard drive after final fantasy takes up 7 gig...i am expecting the download to take up around about the same amount

I'm very, very intrigued.  Depends on how well they pull it off and how much support it gets.  I really dug PSO 1-3 on the Cube, but never played any of them online.

Still waiting for a new PSO3, the card/board mechanics were a blast.  icon_biggrin  I'm thinking Culdcept on the 360 will fill that gap decently.   icon_wink

I'm interested, but I'm not likely to pay a monthly fee to them.  If it has split-screen multiplayer then I'll jump on it.

Fee is from 5-10 bucks and can be played on Silver...but yeah I know what you mean. Still, that five goes to anti-cheating measures (which were a killer in Dreamcast...hackers who could simply buy a DC Gameshark could completely erase your character, or even freeze your DC)

I'm definitely interested, but only for the single-player experience.  I'm hoping to pick it up when (if) Toys R Us has their usual buy 2, get 1 free sale.

I may have to check this out.  I'm usually more interested in co-op online than competitive, so this may be something I can get my buddies from various places into.

This has to be the first time I'm lamenting not having a 360.  (Aside from DarkEl) I'm the hardcore Phantasy Star fan on staff....(or the others just haven't revealed themselves to me)...and I really wish I were in on this.  Guess I may have to go try and win a 360 from somewhere.

I'm not sure what specs it requires, but there's also a PC version of PSU coming out the same day.

PC -and- PS2 versions of PSU are also coming.

PC and PS2 servers are linked, 360 servers are not.  US and Euro servers, I believe, are linked, Japan is not.

And yes, I'm all over this one, so expect a review sooner or later. biggrin

I wonder if that's a good thing or a bad thing for those of us who wanted to buy the 360 version...

Fees were just announced at $9.99/month.  Six months $49.99.

If the single player is good, I may be in, but otherwise I just don't see it.  Never got into monthly fee games for very long.

Anyone playing this for MP, proceed with caution.  It was a buggy mess when released in Japan.  It was so bad that, IIRC, they almost immediately took all of the servers offline for a month to fix everything.

I read about that. Scary, no?

Thankfully, you can 'beta test' the full game starting tomorrow. You can pull the full (or near full) game on Wednesday and Thursday, and beta it for a week and a half or so, if I remember reading right.

Clicky here for what you need to know.

I am interested and mainly to see how the MMO part works, especially chatting. Most of the reviews I have read do not address if you can use COMs over XBL
I also want to see how the gameplay is. I am glad they are offering this.

Chatting's gotta be done with the headset. Of course, then you wouldn't be able to play with people across the world (with the little preset text generator they had that I hated to no end). So who knows in the end.

I'll download the beta test, for sure.  Give it a week, see how I like it . . . never played a Phantasy Star game, but I have been looking for an MMO'ish game to get into that doesn't have the time requirements of FFXI.

I will add - will enough 360 players be playing it to really have a rich and player-interacted experience?  I'm almost mulling over which version to get - 360 or PC.  I guess we'll see for the beta how the 360 version handles.

I hope this turns out well, I plan on getting this.  Don't forget the game features a full fledged new single player phantasy star RPG harkening back to the master system Phantasy Star games from what I have read.

Dling now. I noticed that it states that there is a max limit to how many people can play concurrently and you have to have XBL Gold

My first game got stuck on part 2 of the tutorial. I got to the guy I was supposed to talk with and could not do anything from there. Not a good sign.

Played a bit, didn't have any issues.  if you can't talk, make sure you don't have a menu or inventory or map up.

Had fun, would rather play with other Gtr's though.

*yawn*

It locked up on me once, but I attribute that to a busy server.  Lots of people roaming around which is neat.

Same 'ol, same 'ol MMO feel which bored me to tears.  Some people will most likely love it, though.

Got to play tonight, and I'm joining the "meh" choruse.  I enjoyed the other Phantasy Star games for awhile (actually tracked down the elusive Gamecube broadband adapter to play it), but that was a port of an older game.  I was expecting a few more bells and whistles, a little more streamlining of the interface(s), or at least the ability to talk over live instead of awkwardly typing or scrolling.  What's the point of Live enabled MMOs if you can't talk live?  Or did I miss something?  The world seemed very sterile and empty, which doesn't work for me in this day and age.

I can see why people get into this kind of game (even why I can), but isn't it just endless level grinding?

Still, if the single player is great, I may jump on board for a brief while.
