The various sites/magazines are doing game of the year stuff now.

Gamespy started with its PC Game of the Year:
http://goty.gamespy.com/2007/pc/index.html

Hint: It wasn't Bioshock, Crysis or Half Life: The Orange Box. So you can probably guess what it was, and it wasn't something that really needs a sale boost from a "GOTY!" moniker (not that that's a criteria, or that a GOTY moniker is even worth anything sales-wise).  icon_neutral

fwiw, 5 of their Top 10 are FPSs, 2 are strategy games, 2 are MMORPGs, one's an RPG and the other's an adventure game.

I tend to find it funner when sites or mags give GOTY to something under the radar screen or that's not an obvious choice (CGW giving theirs to Operation Flashpoint in 2001 brought howling like you wouldn't believe  icon_razz).

it's nice to see The Witcher got RPG of the Year.  In my book it beats out Mass Effect by a nose.

The Witcher is absolutely my PC GOTY.  It's a top contender for overall game of the year too.

but it was still an RPG, and with so few that I've played this year I'm just lumping them all together.

If I were Splash Damage, I'd be really pissed that someone remade Wolfenstein Enemy Territory and got game of the year.

Right, but it's not competing for PC RPG of the year.

Ug whats wrong with me. I should like this one, but I keep trying it, and it keep falling flat. Instead I find myself loadig up old classics like Pirates, JA2 (with mods), The Fall, and Robin Hood to amuse myself

I would be tempted to go with Call of Duty 4 for PC too...Crysis and World in Conflict are high on the list-haven't gone quite far enough in The Witcher to qualify it. So I think it will be a tie-Crysis and COD4.

The only PC games I purchased this year are CoH: Opposing Fronts, Supreme Commander, and Hellgate London.

So yeah...Opposing Fronts it is.

I vote the Orange Box. No, I don't care that its technically several titles in one. It cost me the same as everything else I purchased this year and gave me the best experiences in SP(Portal, Ep two) and MP(Team Fortress 2).

Yea you know something is really wrong when the developer starts releasing patches that listed as .x for the number....even they don't think its worth calling 1.0 yet.  icon_frown

I wish the sports management games would get a mention.  I know FM also releases on consoles, but it's really no fun without the mouse clicky-clicky.  Football Manager 2008 has eaten many many hours of many plane flights for me.
