Just watched a teaser trailer for this title.  I hadn't even heard of it before now.. but it is giving me a bit of the Dungeon Keeper vibe, a game which I loved.  Anyone from GT seen this in action yet?

Never heard of it either, but it's certainly on the radar now.  Loved the Dungeon Keeper series, and this looks pretty similar.

It could be pretty cool, but I don't quite understand the control or gameplay aspects of it yet and that will really determine how good it is.

Definitely looking forward to it after I saw a preview in Game Informer (or some magazine anyway) a while back.
I was under the impression that you controlled an actual character in the game - while the minions were AI controlled (but you could tell them what to do as you were their 'overlord') Now I'm not so sure anymore.

Nah, it wasn't unveiled anywhere but magazines yet.  It looks pretty cool and I agree that it gives a bit of a DK vibe.

OK... so how about a few updates to rekindle the buzz?

First off - on our front page here:  Go Go GT

Second off - The website for the game:  Codemasters...

Thirdly - A GREAT video of gameplay:  nl team website vid

Fourth - The game is being done by Triumph Studios - the same group that did Age of Wonders (a fantastic TBS game):  Triumph Website

Fifth - Demo is either out now, or out very, very, soon - depending on what you read.  (apparently some confusion exists over this).

Sixthly - PC and 360 release.  There is single player, Versus, and Co-Op!  -  Which system gentlemen?!?!?

That was awesome!  I was just about sold before, but that sealed the deal.  Unless this gets horrible reviews, I'm absolutely in.   I had the new Tenchu game pre-ordered, but after the lackluster demo yesterday, I think I'll switch to this.

I just hope there is a decent variety of minions, that is something I loved about Dungeon Keeper.  I also hope there is some decision making to rebuilding the tower.

This makes me want to re-play Dungeon Keeper 2.

That was a fantastic demo!  Think Fable + Dungeon Keeper, and you're on the right track.  Looks and sounds gorgeous, and controls great as well.  The lack of camera control is a little wonky, but makes complete sense given the control scheme.  The voice work is very good, and highly amusing to boot.  Some of the small touches had me laughing, such as a couple of the minions making helmets from the pumpkins they plundered.  My only concern is that from the gameplay videos at the end, it doesn't look like you are able to summon a wide variety of minions.  You fight against a number of different enemies, but it seemed like you're always controlling the imp-like characters.  That'd be a bummer, but certainly not a deal breaker.

Sweeping your minions, setting forests ablaze, and generally causing mass havoc is an absolute blast.  Overlord is now a day one purchase for me. Can wait to let out my inner evil bastard!   icon_twisted

EDIT:  According to this preview, it looks like you only get to control 4 different types of imps.  Bummer.

I enjoyed the demo a lot, myself.  The description of Fable+Dungeon Keeper is fairly apt, but so was whoever mentioned pikmin.  Controlling minions is just like that.  The voice work and graphics are very Fable-esque though.  Especially when villagers are saying, "Hooray."  Sounded almost like placeholder V/O work taken directly from Fable.  Actually, though, apart from the fact that you're evil and take on heroes, it doesn't seem to be very much like Dungeon Keeper at all.

I think it'll be a purchase for me, too, unless I hear that it doesn't maintain that quality through to the end (the surprisingly small number of minions news was a bit of a let down).

I downloaded the demo this morning and tried it out.  I LOVED IT!!!!!

The voicework on the imps, your helper, and the Jester was great.  I have a feeling there will be a tough balance between slaughtering innocents to up your corruption and keeping enough alive to pay tribute to you.  and yeah, it really isn't very much like Dungeon Keeper at all but that is ok, it is unique in it's way.

I found the controls to be a bit awkward at first because I wanted the right stick to be a camera control, and would rather use the left bumper and right stick to sweep my minions.

I wish there was an option to switch the camera control on and off.  Or to make camera control the default with the button used to control imps, but maybe as the game progresses the setting they have works best.

I'll second that, Bullwinkle.  I liked the demo, but having to hold that button to use the camera look just irritated me.  Maybe it can be re-configured in the full game.

I am thinking this is how I would like to control it as well.  As for the demo, I enjoyed it a hell of a lot.  Definitely a Pikmin rip-off, but I like this setting better, actually.  Am thinking this will be a buy in the future.

i think it has the potential to be an interesting game, but they'll have to make more out of it than i've seen in the demo if they expect something that will hold my interest enough to warrant spending the money.  considering all the other top-tier games coming out over the next few months, it will have to be something special to get another look from me before it winds up in a bargain bin.
