I liked the first one. I traded-in for the second one. It's at home in a bag waiting. Anyone else take the plunge on more white trash golf humor? I'm curious to see if it plays as well as the first, and I hear the online game is super.
______________________
Have played for one online tournament (ranked #8 of 10), a few of the skill areas, and two of the Tour courses for Summer. The game is pretty much the same though I don't enjoy the voice guy as much. Graphics are improved, humor still juvenile, golf game still good fun.
THe Live play and Tournaments should make it a good one -especially since in a Tourney not all players have to play at the same time - you can post your score and see how you fare.

1-4 players online
There are tournaments that you can create as well as some ones set up by Hypnotix going on now.
13 online/offline game modes: stroke, match skins, best ball, scramble, one club + putter, casino, time attack, bingo bango, vegas, high low, pick up sticks, baseball golf.
And this is one of the few games in which I enjoy the music. Leans to the rock side, but you can also add your own, track by track.

I'll have a review in the next few days. I too have taken the plunge into "stripper golf" as my wife calls it.

Haven't done the online mode yet, but I do think the single player game is better than last year. In tour mode, there are, basically, missions to complete with each set of characters (giving you a reason to play more than just Summer and Autumn). My only complaint is that the computer in tour mode seems to be just a little too good (there's a way to set it to easy in regular games, but not tour mode). My wins have been lucky breaks. But the whole point is to increase your character's abilities, so I'm sure a shift will happen. Hopefully it won't get too easy...

I am now interested in this one. Can someone briefly explain the swing mechanic for me? I never played the first one. Edt : Wait a sec... this is the one where you beat the snot out of your caddy... right? If we play multiplayer, can I beat the snot out of my opponent too? That would be fun! We could call it the WWG. Thanks for the info. LD

Can only beat on the caddy.
Swing mechanic is done with the right stick - back and forward - trickier than in the first game as the meter is tougher to catch in the 'softspot.' Played a couple games online and it's a blast - esp. the taunts. Tried turn play and simulaneous - both were done well. Really a great game online.

Hey Driver. Don't you have an ESPN NFL 2K5 league game to worry about before you get too far into golf? We're waiting for you and stiffler to play so we can advance to week 5.

Am aware of that, but Stiffler and I have had a hard time meeting up online. I had a friend in town over the weekend and Friday night I had to run a meeting, which led to going out afterward. Plus I work 4pm to midnight on Sundays. It's difficult, as you can imagine, to postpone certain things to get home to play a videogame.
The advantage is that at least when playing golf I'm visible online, but Stiffler probably has his own stuff going on as well.
Sorry for the hold up.

I rented this last night and played a quick 7 holes.
I thought I sucked at Links ???????????????
Heh !!!!
I am horrible at this game. It's sort of fun though. The Ghost Shot is cool, and the different game modes are really great.
I will play a bit more before deciding.
Thanks for the replies.

I put in Links briefly to compare the two and really enjoy how much more freedom you're given with the camera in OG2. Also, there seem to be a lot more guides to help you get a good shot in OG2. The OG golf game quality is high, I feel, and I was surprised at how much I missed the banter of the announcer in OG2 when playing some Links. LInks is much more realistic, but I think in this case it means less 'beer & pretzels' fun, too. The only drawback so far is that you must be ranked 50 or above to create a tournament in OG2. Fortunately, there are dozens of public tournaments created - you just pick one, and play through the course to see how you rank. I really like that versus having to schedule games live. Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know I tried to do my part to start a CGOG tourney.

This IS very cool. I guess I will be checking into this feature as soon as I hit my first birdie. Yep... I am really that bad. LD

Yep... I am really that bad. Hey, you're not alone. In Tiger or even Links, I can birdie pretty regularly with occaisional eagles (and a hole in one on my first round with Tiger 2005). OG2 is much, much harder.

I think I'm playing my ESPN NFL game tonight (my 3-1 Jaguars are up against the 4-0 Bills) but later in the week? That'll be tough as I work evenings the rest of the week. I can play in the daytime, if you want. Just spent a bit of time with the game, and it's a riot. My golfer sucks though. Can the golfers be upgraded rpg-style, or do you just unlock better golfers? editOk, answered my own question, I see now you can upgrade your golfer, RPG style. Just played 9 holes, and I LOVE this game. I even love the putting system which others have said is hard. I think it's a brilliant implementation. notes: * the game has excellent graphics. including the fantastic 3D models. Summer is hot! (heh, get it?) * having Dave Attell as the commentator? priceless. (I also heard Sarah Silverman in there, score more points for this game) * custom soundtrack support? check. * I love the aiming and putting system. Without reading the manual, I've been able to figure most stuff out. I shot a 49 on my first 9 holes, but it felt great. It lets me know the game is not too easy, and there's room to improve as I learn the nuances. * I love the ability to fast forward to the end of the shot, so you don't have to watch 50 yds of roll, if you don't want to. * the humor in the game is actually funny. I've cracked up several times already. There is lots of fun to be had with this one.

Gonna play this online in a few if anyone is up for it.
Edit: Got in two quick games last night - I agree on how much fun OG2 is. The first one was also a lot of fun, but the ability to play online and to see a lot more courses has been pretty great.
Am stuck on Summer's 'baseball' game in her career, but this is one of those games - like the ESPN sports games - where even if you lose you don't mind so much.

We need to get someone up in the Top 50 so we can set up CG Tournaments! I'm at 175 or so, but you only need a record of, like, 6-2 to break 50. Help a brother out here!

Am stuck on Summer's 'baseball' game in her career, but this is one of those games - like the ESPN sports games - where even if you lose you don't mind so much. Agree. I'm playing as Rico Suave. He's got a BIG club, and he doesn't mind jacking it .... off the tee. Took me 3 tries to beat Summer in the first skins game, but had a great time even when I lost. I find myself cheering when I do well. On my 3rd try, she kinda fell apart, and I had 3 birds in 9 holes and won easily. I love how how the A.I. doesn't always play perfectly. One game she played great (3 birds, stayed composed), another she came unglued and plonked into the water 3 times. Loved the cow attack at the range got 4 kills with one ball! hehe. I can NOT beat the Drivin' Me Crazy challenge yet. I just don't have enough distance rating to average 240 per drive. Bill, can you play in the daytime? not sure what time zone you're in, but maybe we could hook up tomorrow, or Saturday, in the day.

Driver -
If you see me on, just invite me. I can help you get ranked to 50 or higher easy, as I absolutely suck.
I will probably be on tonight now that the Series is over. I have got to at least get good enough to PAR a hole every once in awhile. It really shouldn't be THAT hard.

For those of you (like me) with limited time and skills don't forget that Hypnotix has a tradition of giving out cheats each Friday on thier forumI believe this week's will be a cheat to unlock all characters in exhibition mode. Which means that next time I have friends over to play we will be able to have all the characters available. Very nice.

I finally broke 40 for 9 holes, with a 38! woot! I was -1 in another online game, and the guy I was playing was shooting bad and he dropped. I got a "win" but I would've rather had a 36 :x I'm playing again last night at a friend's house, and on my way to another 36-ish game, and they are playing bad, so they say "hey, let's play something else!" :x So I'm still up for a game tonight if anyone wants Oh, and here's a tip: if you're trying to beat the "Drivin' Me Mad" challenge, where you have to get 2400 pts on 10 drives, you probably won't be able to beat it with a stock character. Even after putting several points into distance, I still came up 30 pts shy. Finally, I actually watched the little intro that says to "hit the target pads for bonus points". Hmm. I thought they were out of reach, but for second during a flyby, I noticed one in the left most bunker, and you can't normally see it. Aim for that left most bunker, and do an overswing, and you should hit the pad. I hit it 9 of 10 times, and broke 3000 pts, easily beating the challenge.

For folks still playing the game, there are a mess of cheats (or 8, anyway) listed over at the Hypnotix forums. http://www.hypnotix.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=3

I picked this up today but noticed that it is not 480p. I have a projector that has different inputs for progressive and non-progressive. I bought INDY car racer that had 480 not checked and can't play it unless I change the cable on my xbox, so I hope that this game will not do the same.

Stick swing only. But you can run over people with your golf cart to improve your stats, if that helps you any.
