Took me a few moments to realise what Hideo was going on about here, then i remembered that Japan has not had the PS4 launch yet

Like almost all console and game releases in Japan, I predict huge, huge sales in the first week and then a huge drop off right after that. I'm guessing 500k to 1 mil in her first week and then dropping down to about 50k per week.

really?,i can understand that with handhelds, but with Xbox not really making a dent in the Japanese market(not sure how XB1 is doing),surely Japanese gamers will lap the PS4 up?

I thought Outlast was out on the Store already so i went looking for it(its up later today for EU) and found Blacklight:Retribution,Warframe and War Thunder for free..whether good or bad,it's another three games added to my PS4 collection

Lego Marvel Super Heroes(I bought this)
DC Universe Online
Don't Starve
Resogun
Contrast
Blacklight:Retribution
Warframe
War Thunder

Just found out about a game called Planetside 2 that looks pretty cool as well, and i already knew about Drive Club

Damn,i love my PS4!!!! icon_biggrin icon_biggrin icon_biggrin icon_biggrin

From what I've read, the Japanese console market has been in decline for some time. I'm sure the PS4 will sell, but consoles in general aren't doing great over there.

Based on that theory alone the Bone is doomed in Japan.

Seriously though I didn't know the PS4 still hadn't launched in Japan. I wonder how many consoles Sony has ready to go for the launch? My guess is enough that you will see Sony trumpeting their new world wide sales numbers a month or so after launch.

Yeah I know, I just like pointing out how Ginormous and ugly the Bone is. But I will never understand Japans resentment towards western video game products.

I actually thought it had already launched over there ahead of the PS4,a quick look at the wiki page for Xb1 and it just says 2014 retard

Those are actual sales to consumers too, not shipped. Not that it makes much of a difference considering how quickly these things are sold out.

How long has the PS4 been out now? Reason I ask; I made a bet with my nephew last May that he wouldn't be able to get one 3 months after it's release. I checked around at all his local retailers and the bigger online stores and it isn't available, so I'm thinking I'm looking good for this bet. If I win I get my PS3 back from him, plus the extra controller he bought last year and his entire PS3 library. His gaming buddies have PS4's, so he won't be going completely without. I really just want to give him the gears with a loud "told you so!" and remind him he should have preordered.  icon_razz

Hmm, you may be in a grey area in your bet.  You can't expect to walk into a store and find one, but at least in my neck of the woods if I was ready to buy one I could find one within no more than 7 days of hunting.

Yeah I saw a few PS4s last week in the stores. They're out there.

PS4 is released in Japan on Saturday, that's going to give them a huge boost.

I have seen the PS4 in stock once at a local Best Buy while I was in the store. One earlier time, I looked at the web site and they were available in store. They are certainly out of stock more often than in stock (per my experience) but if someone was diligent about checking, I think they could have bought one within your bet window.

And what is the WiiU at worldwide now with a year and 3 month 'head start'? Last I heard I thought it was at 5.8 million.

And to remain on topic - I've seen PS4s in the wild, too. He's clearly not looking hard enough if he wants one.

Yeah but both my nephew and I are on the westocast of Canuckistan, and typically Nintendo and Sony consoles are a bit more popular here. I think that's a result of having the largest per capita Asian population in North America. I know for sure I can't get PS4s at any of the big box stores in mine or my nephew's city. Ebgames.ca didn't seem to have them online or in store and none of the Canuckistan Big box online retailers had them either.

I took a look at the list of 30 anticipated PS4 games for 2014 over at IGN, to gauge at what point I'd probably want to buy a PS4.

Of the 30, I think only 3 or 4 were exclusives. Of those 3 or 4, I was only interested in 1.

So at this point, I really can't justify dropping the money. Sure, it would be nice to play cross-platform titles with slightly better specs, but certainly not $400 nice.

I think this will certainly change over time as the library fills out and new features roll in, but for now I'm still in a holding pattern and anticipate probably being that way for a year or more.

This list?

Of the exclusives on that list, I'd be interested in...
  • Driveclub - interest level: very high
  • Helldivers - interest level: medium-low tentative
  • Infamous - interest level: high
  • The Order: 1886 - interest level: high tentative
Damn.  That exercise had the opposite effect on me.  Those games, plus the already-out exclusives, plus better cross-platform graphics, plus remote play, plus PSN plus, plus a large tax refund coming soon, and I'm now feeling like I want a PS4 sooner rather than later.

Yeah, that may push me into getting one anyway. Fact is I'll have the money to buy one in spring easy - if I decide to wait until later in the year it's going to be more of a pinch. First world problems!

MLB 14 on the PS4 is a system seller by itself for me. That game is looking incredible. Add Infamous Second Son within the same month and I don't see how you can argue with the exclusives.

I'm particularly excited about a couple of indie games in Rime and The Witness.  Along with the usual suspects, I am very happy with my purchase.  Hell I've already put in over 100 hours in BF4 (yes I realize it's cross platform), point being I've used my PS4 a lot.

It's definitely hard to justify spending $900 on two systems.  But now that I have the XB1, I'm finding that it's not all that difficult to justify $400 for a second system...
