I love it. And I'm an extremely casual soccer fan. Like only watch major tournaments casual.

I got this email yesterday:

Quote
To thank you for purchasing a PlayStation 4 at Amazon.com, please enjoy an additional $5 savings on Battlefield 4, Madden 25, FIFA 14, Need for Speed: Rivals, and NBA Live 14, which are currently on sale for $10 off regular prices.

Now through 11:59 p.m. PST, December 28, apply the code below at checkout to receive at least $15 in total savings.

I'm not going to use the code, so if anyone wants it, shoot me a PM.  It doesn't say that it's only valid for this account, fwiw.

I got one for the XB1, got excited as I misread it as being $15 off the already price that was already discounted by $10, then realized it was only $5 off.  I think $15 off the sales price would have gotten more bites.

Ugh. I'm pretty sure my f*&king console is defective. Half the time I don't get any sound after I boot up and it requires a reboot, and there have been multiple instances of the thing not connecting to the network. I also get these weird sound/video glitches during games. Anyone experience any of this?

One time I got no sound but a simple switch to tv and back to hdmi 2 fixed it. Just a receiver handshake quirk. No graphics or audio issues here like that. When did you get it?

It's a launch console. I've been hoping that the issues would be resolved in a firmware update but it hasn't happened yet and it's starting to become a major annoyance. I guess I'll contact Amazon first and then Sony, I hope I don't have to go weeks/months without it while they attempt to fix it.

Yeah, waiting on replacements and fixes definitely sucks, but I think you're probably better off trying to get it handled now rather than having an ongoing (possibly worsening) hardware problem.  Even if it does result in sending the unit back to Sony.

I've had an audio issue as well (no sound at some random point during a game) and it can be annoying. Luckily, it doesn't happen often at all (mostly during NBA 2k14) and it can be fixed by going out to the system menu and just switching the audio to HDMI, then switching back to the digital out. The sound comes right back. Seems like a firmware issue.

I've had the sound drop out once (or maybe twice. Not sure right now) when I booted up the console. Easily fixed in my case by switching the input signal on my TV/receiver to a different HDMI port and then back again. I've never had this happen with the PS3, so I'm sure it's just a firmware bug that'll get fixed in one of the early updates. We've only had one real firmware update apart from the day 1 update so far, and it was a small one. I expect a bigger update around the beginning of the new year.

Hope everything works out for ya. Still enjoying the system? Paranoia will destroy ya. Then after I say that I get paranoid paranoid

Engine, I watched some random kids screwing around with that and it was rather entertaining, albeit, briefly. I do love the camera for twitch and a few things as well. It's, obviously, not intergrated into the system like xbone. As of now I enjoy having it and if its gets better that's just icing.

funny, I would have expected more on the One as you could now snap the video to a side panel.  although with the Kinect, I'm really not shocked that people would be rather hesitant to watch elsewhere instead of in front of it.

Has anyone suffered any PSN account issues since the PS4 launch?  Honestly I've barely touched my PS4.  Day One I was never able to login so I figured I'd wait a few days.  When I got back around to it I spent almost the entire time updating system software and then downloading Injustice.  I think I played maybe 10-20 minutes and that was it.  A little while later I get an email saying my account ID has changed, I thought it was a phishing message and ignored it.  Yesterday when I tried to login it wouldn't accept my password or acct or backup birthday info, so I figured I must have been hacked???

Checking online, I saw some others with the same problem I had, and then I saw most of the responses would just blame the person for sharing their acct info.  Which clearly I never did because I never got to use the damn system lol.  So today I called in and after they got the acct and pwd reset, the lady tells me if it happens again within some period, they may suspend or ban my account.  I was a bit shocked and so I challenged her to tell me what happened since I know I didn't give my info out and I never used the system enough to do any sharing or whatever it's called; I asked how am I supposed to prevent this from happening again if they don't give me any clue what happened?  She gives me some bullshit response and tries to sell me some PS4 insurance package instead.  WTF.

The suspend or ban is for your (and their) protection, it forces you to call in. I mean that literally even if it sounds ridiculous. If it happened again, do you want your account to stay active so whoever has control of it does whatever he wants with your account?

It may be that someone already has access to your email account through the usual phishing or hacking of other sites where you might use the same or similar passwords, and has now taken interest because you have a PS4. The ID change message was someone doing the usual, reset password and info via email confirmation thing. Since he has your email info, he can then use that to set it to whatever he wants. This is a very common non-hack.

Change your email password and make sure your email's other verification systems are there.

Not to say Sony has the most secure system, but secure your own setup first just to be sure.

I had my password forced reset on my PSN account due to other intrusions, but otherwise no problems. I think there are legitimate security issues and intrusions, but likely the vast majority of them (such as the ones used by FIFA exploiters) are not direct intrusions but just use data obtained elsewhere to get into most peoples' accounts.

Just an FYI for anyone with similar issues as mine. My thumbs would start sliding off the thumbsticks on the DS4 after 20 minutes of play or so. I purchased the CQC grips from Kontrol Freek and they have solved the problem. They add a little more height to the sticks as well, giving me a greater range of motion.

Anyway, just my .02 in case anyone else has the same problem.

Suspend deactivates and would "force call-in" - threatening to ban an account puts your customer on the defensive (which looks to be exactly what it did to rittchard). There are also other ways of account validation, and IIRC their last security issue was due to their partner, not the end users. Pushing that off onto customers is wrong, and there really is no justification. Since your store purchases etc. are tied to your account, they're saying "someone keeps trying to pretend to be you, so we're taking all your shit away from you." Uh, what?

I can tell you, having dealt with Nintendo service, I never once felt like they didn't care about me as a customer. Someone saying "ban" on the phone to me? Supervisor please.

Yeah I think that's what set me off, particularly after having some similar issues with Blizzard a while back.  "Ban" definitely feels like the blame is being put on me, and aside from changing my password, there's really not much else I know of that I can do to affect the situation.

I'm gonna try and exchange my system for a new one. The majority of the time I just want to use it for Netflix and I consistently have trouble connecting to the network and/or launching the app. Drives me nut to think I have this $400 machine that can't even play Netflix properly. I got a lemon.

Oh well, at least I got through AC4 on it -mostly- fine (with graphic and audio hiccups sprinkled in).

ah.  I figured that using a $200 machine was better than using the $400 machine.  I have a hunch that my large chunk of donated time and blu ray watching is what killed my 60gb BC PS3 frown.  and both are irrelevant when compared to using the TV.

wow.  way to put that Gaikai purchase to use.   thumbsup

now to wait and see what the costs will be.  sadly, not a way to get access to the games we already bought, but if it's part of PS+ or an expanded version of it, I could see this being a nice cheap way to play games without the hassle of shipping/returning games.

They are going to offer two pricing models, you can subscribe like Netflix, or just buy per title.

why just games, why not tv and movies as well?

Sony will launch a cross-platform, cloud-based live TV and video on demand service, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House announced at CES 2014 today.

According to House, the service will combine the features of live TV, video on demand and DVRs. Sony plans to test the service in the U.S. later this year.

PS now sounds like it could be great but lots of details missing. Will it be another sub in addition to ps plus?  What about already purchased digital games?  Costs etc. looking forward to more info. Hope ps plus members get into the beta.

The beta is starting at the end of January in the US.

There are two ways to pay for it, subscription or per-title.

At CES today, Sony’s Andrew House took to the stage to announce what will likely be the modern day answer to backwards compatibility and the culmination of Sony’s Gaikai purchase. He revealed Sony’s new streaming service, PlayStation Now.

The new service, using the power of Gaikai, will allow streaming of classic games from previous generations to not only PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, but also to televisions, tablets, and smartphones. Users will be able to either rent these titles on a single payment basis, or partake in a subscription model. Prices haven’t been detailed yet and its expected that launch games will be limited, but House did confirm that some of the games included would be Quantic Dream’s Beyond: Two Souls and Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed The Last of Us.

A closed beta is planned for the end of January with a full roll out expected in the summer. For the time being this service seems to only be for the US as plans for Europe were not mentioned. Sony also unveiled a cloud-based TV service, but details were scarce.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on any new details, but what are your initial impressions of PlayStation Now? Let us know in the comments.

Curious to see if Sony solved the input lag that plagues OnLive and Gaikai
