I almost scored a copy of that. GameStop had one left... But it was the gutted copy. Against my principles for numerous reasons. Best buys around here have them but like 20 miles away. Ill wait.

You gotta pick and choose your battles, dude.  I know people hate that Gamestop does this, but they have a reason (not like they just do it to be dicks) and in the end, the copy is no different than if it was in shrink wrap.  In fact, you could spin this that they are providing you a service by pre-opening it...FOR FREE!  slywink

Really the only crappy part is the sticker they always put on the box.  I can usually get the sticker off just fine, though.

I'm with Harpua on this principle, and it's made even worse by the occasional instance of people finding that a store employee did indeed play with one of the opened new copies of a game.

I remember mine being cross shipped, too.  But I think I also paid for expedited shipping of some sort.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they cross shipped if you paid for it.

Oh - Sony issued a statement on the failure rates: http://allthingsd.com/20131119/sony-updates-faulty-playstation-4-estimate-saying-number-is-still-very-small/?mod=atdtweet

Basically saying less than 1% with no singular cause, so 'nothing to see here.'

Has anyone downloaded a digital game for the PS4?  Is it any faster than the PS3 was?  Does it have some option for which part to DL first?  SP vs MP?

I remember Sony saying you could play the game after only a fraction downloaded and it would download the rest.  Is that something that needed to be implemented for games and doesn't just work?

Calling it a fraction is being somewhat generous. Killzone Shadowfall needs around 7 gigs downloaded before you can play it.

It is on a per-game implementation, but both Sony and Microsoft will be strongly encouraging developers to make use of this functionality this generation. Developers who skip this step will soon enough start to get points deducted in reviews if they don't offer this functionality, I suspect.

The first system update for the PS4 is reportedly already out. It's just a bugfix release, but it was released surprisingly quickly.

Quote
Later today, the next system software update for PlayStation 4 (version 1.51) will be available. With this minor required update, stability of system software has been improved. In addition, minor refinements to elements of the system UI (such as clearly indicating when a user downloads a game and a game patch at the same time) have been introduced.

When I downloaded Call of Duty, it gave me the option to download the Single Player or Multiplayer first.

in comparison, KZ was playable from disc in about 30 seconds.  whatever voodoo they put into these things to make that happen with a mandatory 40 gb install is worth it.

Several hours of 'testing' and the PS4 is running just fine.  I'll have to run further tests to be sure, of course.

According to IGN, you should go into your settings and make your PS4 your 'primary PS4'.   This will enable offline play.

It doesn't ask about this during the setup routine? That's weird. I mean, it's kind of important.

Me too, but an IGN correction to their review tells you to be sure and go into settings to make it your primary.  I wonder if it's a situation only IGN came across because they might have more than one PS4 they are looking at?   I dunno....

I did it just in case.

Well you know initially I wanted to make the PS4 in my living room my primary PS4, but then I realized I spent a lot of time in my bedroom, so I changed that one to primary. Then I found myself doing a lot of cooking, so I changed it to the kitchen PS4. Then I finally came to my senses and made my bathroom PS4 primary.

The idea is that if you log in from, say, a friend's PS4, you won't be able to take advantage of some of the system's features (such as offline play for downloaded titles). You'd only change your primary system if you get a new one for some reason, for example after repairs.

I look forward to seeing how Sony handles pre-orders of digital games. You know, pre-loading and all that.

Also, can we access our digital libraries on a non-primary PS4?

They've been doing preloading for a while. In fact, I currently have Tearaway preloaded on my Vita. If I try to start it, it tells me that it's not the right date yet (it's released tomorrow).
