So UPS has screwed me over, and it's set for Monday delivery.  They can't even change it to customer pickup at the facility.  I have a bad feeling my PS4 delivery odyssey isn't going to be over Monday either...

That blows, sorry to hear man!  Have you contacted Amazon to see if they can compensate you in some way?

So got mine yesterday from Amazon, and plugged it up last night.  Everything is pretty and awesome, and then I update to 1.50.....

now it won't give me video or audio unless I go into Safe Boot and reboot it again from there.  It's not a hardware issue that I can tell, because it works once it goes to Safe Boot.   I haven't re-initialized the system yet, but I may.  I'm thinking this 1.50 firmware update has issues.

I'm sure the headset is probably quite crap but being able to use pretty much any headset or earphones you have lying around should take the sting out of it a bit.

The headset is very crap, yes.

I seeing increasingly large numbers of people on various websites experiencing a "blue light of death" with their new PS4 units. Some go bad after a few hours of play, others are bad right out of the box:

http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Battlefield-Launch-Day-Bundle-4/product-reviews/B00DE2W5XG/ref=cm_cr_pr_top_link_1?ie=UTF8&filterBy=addOneStar&showViewpoints=0&sortBy=byRankDescending

Any chance this is just software related, or does there indeed seem to be a large number of defective units in the first batch?

I'm guessing that this is firmware-based, and not hardware, based on what I have going on.

If you have two controllers, can you plug headphones into both of them and use that for audio when watching a movie?  If the wife and I can do that instead of buying two expensive wireless headphones, that would be fantastic.

Do you want this so your kid can sleep?  Do you guys use a noise maker?

We do use white noise for the kids, but with our house layout there aren't a lot of doors to close between living room and kid rooms, so even with the white noise we have to keep the volume fairly low for evening movie watching, or use a goofy array of headphone extension cords.

The problem is that most headsets have separate plugs for audio and mic.   I can use my regular headphones to plug into my controller for sound, but the darn thing has a separate connector for the mic so I can't use them to receive and send audio.

So how does it work playing your digital games on other people's PS4s? Because I'm hoping to go all digital with this platform.

Also, where's the digital PS4 code on Amazon?  I could have sworn it was up last night, but now I'm not seeing it...  ninja

If it was not regular shipping option where they have a window of days to get there, but something like 2 day then they should refund the shipping charge back for failing to deliver it.

To clarify, you're saying I can plug any headset into the controller, turn my receiver down and hear all game sound through the headset?  That is fantastic news.  Playing AC4 last night and hearing the f bomb dropped a few times concerned me a bit (6 and 3 year olds in the house).

PSN was rock solid for me last night as well.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes you can do that, the controller uses a mini-plug connector and the sound quality is very good.

Hold down the PS button.    Adjust devices.  Then change it from chat to all audio.

A friend of mine left me a text with a very similar problem. system worked fine, updated to 1.50, and now his system is apparently dead. He can't even get into safe mode. He waited outside all night before the release, so I feel really bad for him. He was a big Xbox fan, and never owned the PS3. Not a very good first impression for him.

I'm not sure I really like the interface for the PS4.    It's still early, but I'm starting to decide that it's underwhelming me.

When I put the "cursor" over a game on the main UI it takes quite awhile for the options below it to appear.  Is this because the network is getting hammered?

I am finding I like it much more than the XMB from PS3.  Much faster navigation to the things I want to get to.

Yeah I do like it better than the crossbar.

What I want is a way to go to friends' profiles, take a look at their activities, their posted videos, etc.   Maybe I can't do this because PSN is down?

I thought that was supposed to be in the PSN Live (or something like that) menu item?  I haven't really looked tbh.

Has anybody figured out how to get your PS3 games (like Flower) for free on the PS4?  I'm almost positive I owned that on PS3 but it just shows up as full price in the store.

Also, I notice that some games they said were day 1 (like Flow, War Thunder, etc) aren't actually in the store.

fl0W and Escape Plan are day 1 for Europe. In other words, you have to wait two weeks for those.

I'm fine with it. I don't want the UI to get overblown and cluttered. Its still a console not a full windows/Mac PC. Just let me do the few basic things I want in a quick and straight forward manner.

I really like interface so far, more than the 360's in fact.

I sold my 360 (original version) for $90, seemed like a good deal (especially considering the trade in at GS is $30).

Also sold FIFA 14 for $30.

Made the overall expenditure for the PS4 even better. smile

Yesterday my "what's new" section was working.   I could see my recent activities, the video I posted, etc.   Today it's empty.   I can't hit the down button or hit the x button on it and have anything happen.  Is this tied to the PSN and because of that it's currently not working?

Agreed. I am loving this UI. Clean and simple. Once PSN stops being hammered, the activity feed and other social things should start working better.

This video is getting me to upgrade to a 1TB SSHD. This was done on the PS3. I wonder if the PS4 difference will be as stark.
I found this speed comparison on IGN. There doesn't seem to be much of an advantage for BF4 but the load times for COD are basically cut in half. More evidence that IW are completely shit?
http://www.ign.com/wikis/playstation-4/PlayStation_4_Hard_Drive_Speed_Test_Comparison

Also, changing the PS4 drive is child's play:

Well, the servers are definitely overloaded.

Besides that though, it is nice to see games and updates download and install automatically, even in the background while playing other games.

Biggest thing about this new gen is just how well the OSes work, and likely both OSes will be programmed for better extendability.

Late last night everything seemed to be behaving itself. Tonight, while I could download updates and demos without issue (and the mechanism is much nicer than on the PS3) none of the 'down arrow' status/extra stuff was working, nor the What's New. Figured it's more server issues. icon_confused

So does the PS4 do anything besides play interesting soothing music while asking me to "Please wait..."

Oh, apparently not lol...

I guess this is a good way to force people to buy the disc based games?
