Mine is shipping from Arizona, a route I've seen a lot from Amazon before, so it will definitely arrive tomorrow barring any crazy events.

So, even more talk about announcements tonight at the launch stream. Normally, I really don't care, especially since Sony hasn't been showing much anyway. But, considering that one of the major marketing ideas being passed around is that the PS4 has no games, I think they will be showing a lot of upcoming games to offset that. I actually find myself interested in a spike tv event, ugh.

Planning to tune in tonight.  I have a buddy that works part time at Best Buy and its all hands on deck.  This is his first console release

Told him it sucks to be him  icon_razz

For all the craziness around the speculation for tonight, the most insane and possibly most awesome is that Antonio Banderas will be making an appearance.  GAF kind of made him the PS4 spokesperson in GIF form, and it would just be nuts to see Sony embrace it.

Yeah, those Banderas gifs are pretty good....it would be pretty funny and cool of them to see Sony embrace that.

Some of the Sony guys have already embraced it and have hinted that something is coming that may be related to the Banderas meme. The question is whether it is Banderas himself or just the Sony guys parodying the GIFs with themselves in the main roles. Those are the two most likely options in my opinion anyway.

If they brought out Banderas, it'd be a pretty stupid move money and marketing-wise. GAF is a big place, but it's still just as insular and isolated as any other forum. Despite how much you see it there, it's basically an inside joke. Wasting money on a celeb appearance for that is a bit silly.

I also don't think you'll see the VR headset, it's still too early. They need to have more games to support it. If they're having trouble getting in basic MP3 and DNLA support, getting a VR headset working in the OS would be too much.

That isn't their concern at all. The only reason we didn't get the VR headset revealed at Gamescom was because Sony decided, at the very last minute, that they didn't want to "confuse the message" before launch. Now that launch is here, that should no longer be a problem.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure they can make a good VR headset. We all know the Oculus is cool, but it has a plethora of problems that are still being worked out and they have way more experience than Sony at making a usable gaming headset.

I wonder how much of the infrastructure for Remote Play will translate to making a VR device easier to develop.  Seems pretty similar, conceptually.  And heck, the system is already set up for motion sensing on the regular controller, so all that's really new for a VR setup is rendering and outputting two screens at once.

I'm so gung ho excited about the Oculus Rift, though; Sony will really have to knock it out of the park with their version to win me over.

One branch of the rumor mill is reporting that the surprise announcement has to do with reviving a big Sony exclusive, one that has to do with space.

lies!

Isn't it the other way around? Sony has been making VR headsets for years and has a plethora of very experienced engineers, while Oculus Rift has been going on for what, two years?

Hmm, not a bad guess, but it doesn't seem to match "bringing back" a franchise.  If this rumor is true, my best guess is Zone of the Enders, but that doesn't really seem popular enough to get people to care.

ZOE is no longer a PS exclusive though.

My secret wish would be Colony Wars 4, but that died a long time ago.   icon_cry

Yes, and how many of us even knew about any of Sony's headsets? Or considered any of them good in the way we think of Oculus Rift?

The OR people, with the help of Carmack, found the latency sweet spot in the technology that many manufacturers like Sony didn't. It's only because of them that people consider VR headsets to be a more common novelty rather than the playthings of people with more money than brains.

This is not to say their couldn't copy that success. But while Sony hardware can be very good, many times they do just get it wrong and also overprice it. The playstation section learned that the hard way, not sure their failing electronics division has.

I'm also in 'Shipping Now' from Amazon.  It will be delivered tomorrow.  BF4, Ghosts, and Skylanders will be delivered as well.

I get to open it in ~6 weeks, time which it will spend sitting on the shelf, disguised in an Amazon box, sealed and mocking me.   mad

I asked my local Target this morning if they would have any extra systems tomorrow that weren't preorder. After the clerk made a few calls, and 15 minutes later, they still didn't know. I left. Maybe I will show up there at 8 when they open tomorrow.

Me too.  As long as it comes with a robot and not a droid.

I know I'm not the target audience for any of the VR headset or OR tech.  The last 2 batman games made me really motion sick.  There's no way I could handle a VR set.  I'd be barfing within 15 minutes.
