The level of XB1's CPU and GPU being underpowered might be more than previously thought due to hardware manufacturing issues. I think we've talked elsewhere about yield issues on the custom APU they have for the system.

The numbers for memory allocation I'd heard were closer to 1GB for each. However, unlike in the prior generation, that number is unlikely to drop as both companies are more likely to add features to the OS even as it becomes more efficient.

Not that this will matter for anyone around here, but several f2p games are confirmed to not require plus to play online

Honestly, I don't see why any F2P game would decide to require PS+ unless there's some kind of odd benefit to doing so, perhaps they get some of that subscription fee?

But since these games are based around their microtransactions and other DLC purchases, the money gained from the fee is negligible in the face of more players to potentially buy content.

We can assume that Sony will get a cut of any in-game purchases regardless.

Anyway, anyone want to join my Planetside outfit?

I posted this in the Next Gen poll thread, but it seems it might be more relevant to things already discussed here:

I preordered the PS4 at Best Buy today.  The manager told me that Gamestop had already put a stop to preorders, and they had just received word that BB was going to follow suit any minute (though it could be as late as tomorrow, she said).  They weren't even sure that they could input my order when they first started the process.

She said no such word was coming down about the Xbone at all.

The manager and a sales associate were also saying that they were taking PS4 orders all the time, but couldn't remember doing an order for the Xbone at all.

I asked my local Gamestop employee when I picked up The Last of Us today, and he told me this:

"We have one Xbox One preorder left and 10 PS4 preorders left."

I did not ask how many his allocation was in total however.

I've heard that there's far less Xbox Ones available for preorder than PS4s (about 25%). This could be a result of the yield problems Microsoft has admitted to having recently. They might have just decided to reduce stock instead of downclocking the Xbox One.

Or it's an effort to inflate their holiday numbers.  "Xbone is sold out everywhere" increases demand, even if the reason it sold out is that stores only had two units to sell.

Amazon has some new bundles for PS4 that include a game and a year of PS+ for a $10 discount.  They seem to say they are guaranteed for launch day too.

Yeah, NeoGAF was begin saying this. They're having severe yield issues with their systems. No doubt this is part of why their console is more expensive, too.

Here's to hoping they won't burst into flame like the 360 did all the time, too.

Looks like the PS4 will definitely be the way to go if you want indie games, or game choice in general. According to this official document, the number of developers joining the PS4 was 126 in February, but has since then increased to a whopping 505! That's a lot of developers!

They take your CC info, but they don't charge you until the product ships.  I don't even think they put a hold on the CC.

I can confirm that.  I was expecting to be without the use of $900 for a few days after placing the pre-orders but nothing.  thinking back I don't remember them ever putting a hold on the funds unless the item was already in stock and available for shipping.

I think I read somewhere something about multi screen support.  This mean there is some way I can connect two TVs to one console?

Or am I still going to have to buy a 2nd ps4?

(my initial plan was a ps4 and a Xbone, but...  screw microsoft, I am just going to go with two ps4's)

Unless it is able to run multi screen that is..

It was fine with dedicated PS3 remotes, but the limited support for universal remotes was the annoying part. I have a little USB doohickey IR receiver plugged into mine for just that reason.

This is correct.  I've started adding Amazon gift cards to the purchase price to bring down the initial hit.   Love Amazon.  my buddy preordered from Bestbuy and they put a hold on for the funds.. he wasn't happy.  Canceled his order and preordered from Amazon

I wish more remotes and manufacturers would go with bluetooth for their remotes/receivers.  I've noticed my dogs seem to enjoy positioning themselves directly in from of the DVR when I try and use its IR remote, and they make quite effective walls.

Bluetooth saps the shit out of batteries.  RF is the way to go, but we're a lot of years away from that.

So, in regards to controllers since I know a bunch of folks weren't terribly fond of the PS3 controller, there has been a ton of articles talking about how great the PS4 controller is and what an improvement it is over the Ps3 controller.  Jeff Gerstmann and the rest of the GB crew on the latest Bombcast even go so far as to say they think they may like it better than the XB1 controller.

Aside from the fake gamers, this video shows some neat stuff about interface and downloads etc.  For example, looks like at least some games you can just download the SP or MP first to get going faster.

It is far more comfortable, though the touch-pad felt a little "cheap" (it's lifted and acts as a button). This may just be pre-production E3 units though - no games I played had any use of it so the touch function wasn't really on display, nor was the move, or the L3/R3 buttons.

As to one vs the other, I don't think anyone has anything to complain about (except maybe the non-offset joysticks - but that isn't nearly as bad as it was on the PS3 controller) - the XB1 adds rumble and 4 of the 5 demos showed it off- the car stopping one did absolutely nothing for it though.

Neither should be a deal-breaker, and both have stepped up.

The UI looks a bit like the new Playstation Store UI, so likely they were doing some experiments. I just hope it's much faster than the Store is, as navigation in the store is very sluggish.

Seems like everything is going to those snappy rectangles with gradient backgrounds everywhere. I mean everything...

That said, I'm okay with that, just so long as they can figure out how to use that style effectively and develop a common, shared visual language.

The worst thing we can have happen this gen is all these OSes, and sites using this common info rectangle design, but every one is using a different way of interacting with it.

So Sony has been one-upping Microsoft practically all of this year, are they even going to do it when it comes to the release date and release a week before the xbone?
So much for that one month Xbox headstart if true!
