Will the PS4 require PS + for other things besides online multiplayer like Gold does? (ie. Netflix, etc.)

One important difference between PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold is that the latter is required if you want to use services like Netflix on the Xbox One, while you can use those services as much as you like on the PS4 without the former. That double subscription always annoyed me with the 360, and we luckily won't see it on the PS4.

Slightly annoyed at the paid MP, but then I realized that I'm already a PS Plus member and I don't play MP anyway. Tongue

No. They specifically pointed this out.

I know about the no-Region Lock thing (Twitter post in the other thread), but I haven't seen the user-swappable HD bit. Yes, the PS3 had it, but apparently I missed that for the PS4 (also was watching a live stream instead of the actual video last night).

Have a link?

I thought the xbone had an upgradeable HD this time around. I haven't heard anything relating to region locking.

I was wondering what size the HD was since all the Amazon page says is one is "built in". Figured the low-end SKU would have a small drive but 500GB is nothing to sneeze at. Pretty sure I saw that there are two other price points coming - $499 and $599 - do we know if that's true and what extras those come with?

I'm also curious if the Eye has changed or if the existing Move peripherals can be used with the PS4?

The Eye is dual camera now, so it can determine depth.

AFAIK there's nothing about multiple SKUs.

It was just a rumor. Suppose it could still happen if they do a bundle with the Eye, but it hasn't been announced yet.

I am saddened by the loss of potential camera and mic uses, but I'd rather have the system for cheaper.

Hopefully if they get the price down future bundles come with the camera. As this currently means we won't even see half the functionality of the kinect 2, and am actually interested in some of the that functionality. But price is a cold hard reality in this parket, and Sony knows that the hard way.

Stuff like the move, which never had a shot on the PS3, and the controller light bars could have been nice to experiment with, but now that the camera isn't included they won't be making devs use it except maybe first parties.

Got my PS4 preordered down at GameStop. I'm guaranteed one at launch by putting money down today on it...they claim....but I am #2 on the list anyway, so I feel good about it. The manager said that they were told by corporate how many they are getting at that store and are stopping preorders after they hit that number. He told me he wasn't allowed to say how many they are getting, but he did say they were getting more systems than extra controllers, so it would be a good idea to preorder one of those.

Anyway, I'm psyched! I am so glad I am supporting a customer focused system, instead of a publisher focused DRM monstrosity now. Hope Capcom and Crytek pull their heads out of their butts (or MS's money) and release Dead Rising and Ryse on the PS4 at some point...since those are the only games I am interested in on the XBone.

Now that Sony won the internet, I really hope they figure out how to quickly patch their system with the PS4.  I haven't touched my PS3 for about 2 weeks, wanted to get in a quick game of Tokyo Jungle last night, 30 minutes later (2 system patches, 1 game patch), I was finally able to play the game.  This happens all the time with the PS3 while the 360 is always super quick with patches (even after I cancelled Live subscription).

I can't remember another example of a company giving consumers such strong reasons not to buy their product, to the point of creating a viral movement against their brand.  MS's xbone marketing strategy has actually made their brand into the greedy, anti-consumer choice.  They've found a way to turn not buying their product into an opportunity for consumers to stand up for their rights.  I don't know how that's not considered anything but a branding disaster, no hyperbole intended.

Meanwhile, Sony is playing a brilliant game of marketing chess, always staying several moves ahead, endearing themselves to consumers, and doing it with a good sense of humor too.  Sony's PS4 vision is sharp and focused.  It will be interesting to see how this translates into preorder and launch sales, and 1st year sales.

Patching was actually already covered.

The PS4 has a chip built into separate from the main processors dedicated to things like streaming and encoding video, thanks to Gaikai tech. However, another function is to download updates and apply them in the background.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but didn't Sony say that Final Fantasy 15 (formerly versus 13) was exclusive to the PS4? Square today is saying that it's going multiplatform at launch. I can't help but feel that there is some politics going between Sony and Square, some kind of fallout to a deal made a long time ago to produce an exclusive playstation game that's still being felt.

I remember seeing somewhere that someone found it odd that they did not specifically say 'exclusive' during the announcement.  I thought they did but then saw this morning afternoon that both FF15 and KH3 are coming to the XB1 and was kind of surprised.  kinda killed my list of PS4 exclusives that would motivate me to keep the system; hopefully they have some more exclusive announcements coming.

Oh thats something else that is good news,as i saw that note below the specs that Leo posted about a partition in the HDD set aside for  the system(just like all HDDs)..but i am pretty sure someone was saying they expect this next genm to last even longer than current gen...so 500gig(well less),will certainly need to be replaced in time

I was surprised with the KH3 coming to XB1,but not that much about FF15 with FF13 on the 360..if it stayed as FFvXIII i may of been surprised if it went to xb1,with them always saying it was exclusive to Playstation

Ah, okay. It is Final Fantasy 14, the broken MMO they released to sucker their fans, and then rebuilt, that's re-releasing soon as a PS3/4 exclusive. That's what confused me. That announcement came right after the trailers for FF15 and Kingdom Hearts 3.

So I think what's happened now is that Square shunted the Versus 13 exclusivity deal onto FF14, and made FF15 multiplatform. Sony's probably done trying to wring an exclusive out of them. It's a really terrible trade, but I bet there were some interesting back room deals going on there. I don't think anyone wants FF14 anymore, but having an MMO early on for your system is at least something.

Nothing, other than that publisher having to make, and maintain their own servers for that always online connectivity since Sony won't be providing that service.

We know how well that went over...

It can still all go wrong. However at this point you can't really have a statement like they had and then go against that. The backlash would be too much.

As others posted, Sony is trying to grab control of market share, and use that control to secure this generation and get others to fall in line, despite MS's method, which while iffy, is more financially sound.
