I'm talking about the numerous options. You can:

- Purchase a physical copy and play right away.
- Purchase a digital copy and stream it.
- Purchase a digital copy and play as it downloads.
- Purchase a digital copy and play after it downloads.

Or combine as you wish. None of the above requires an installation. While the new Xbox might cover the "play as it downloads" angle (though we've heard no hints about it yet), it's very unlikely to allow streaming.

Focusing on Europe is a good idea. Japan shouldn't be a priority at all. What are people going to do? Buy an Xbox instead? LOL!

Sorry if this has been mentioned somewhere in the 13 pages but have they said anything about getting rid of the 'install' step for downloaded games?

I'll take that install step over the 15 steps it takes to install the weekly OS updates.

yeah, just have a popup about the update where I can click OK and be done with it.

I would be very surprised if the PS4 doesn't have an option to automatically download and install updates, even when it's turned off.

The PS4 has a chip dedicated solely to handling things like streaming downloads, OS and social tasks, and video encoding/decoding. They would be stupid not to leverage this to make updating easier.

Updates on all consoles require approval by the user.

Doesn't mean it won't download the update so it's ready to install when you approve, but, frankly, the download is only part of the hurdle.

There's no way any of these consoles will update your system automatically.

Ok, but I want an option to delay downloading until a week after an update is released and see if it is still available.

just make it like it is with the xbox- you start up the console, if there is an update it ops up with a simple yes/no question as whether or not to do it.

Frankly, I'd rather it do what the MS store, Apple Store, etc does - it checks across all your installed software, and lets you blanket-update your applications/games/OS. I don't like waiting when I've finally got a moment to sit and play.

I also hate the PS3 update times. Dear god man. That was like kicking me in the gaming jimmies everytime I sat down to play a game (given that my use of the gaming functionality was infrequent, I invariably had some outstanding OS update that needed to work to use PSN, and was probably stripping off yet another feature of the console). Right, and when you agree it downloads then installs the update.

PS3 is almost the same, but it makes you look at a(n) EULA first.  It's more than just a click of yes or no, though.

How many of those people are working on piecing the still images together to get a look at the whole console?

Also, wasn’t there already a leaked promo vid that showed the whole thing anyways?  Or was that proven to be a fake?

I think that was proven to be fake,

or maybe it was proven that everyone watching it was fake but the video was real.

maybe the fakes are real and the real are fakes.....

I've been pondering this too, but they actually can do that. I imagine that this is what they've got in mind for The Witness, perhaps. Jonathan Blow gets a bunch of royalties from Sony, and Sony gets to give its PS Plus customers the game for free from day 1. The developers get their money regardless of the solution chosen. It's just a matter of how much Sony is willing to pay. I would expect them to pay quite a lot to build a good first impression for the PS4.

Wasn't he the one sending pictures of his junk to girls, and getting angry at when people call him on all his shenanigans like stealing comics whole?

Anyway, much like the Xbox One's VCR-like shell not really deterring people from buying it, I don't think it really matters how the PS4's plastic outer shell looks unless they really mess up and make it look like a giant brown blob of dog poo.

This gen, consoles really aren't about the plastic shell, and probably less about the hardware differences (because there almost are none) but now about the connectivity and first party titles.

slywink

I agree, with my TV stand everything blends in to the background, so unless it has some funky neon bling going on what it looks like doesn't much matter.  I just found the comic humorous because of the people trying to piece together what it looks like from the part shots.

Yeah, I know. But I'm also talking in frustration because one of my local friends was really caught up on how the console looked.

What's funny is that now both consoles are big black boxes.

I never owned one, but heard the playstation and ps2 were good consoles.  I loved the Ps3.

I am ordering as soon as pre orders are available.  I am confident Sony will deliver an excellent console.  I also like Sony peripherals.

There controller charger and headset were pretty nice and worked well.

I wonder how they are going to make them not work with the PS4 so I have to buy new stuff, heh.
(Which is fine with me, I like new stuff, as long as it is better then my old stuff.)

I don't think they've said anything about this, but they have said that the old Dualshock controller won't work with the PS4, and that there will be a headset in the box.

I owned a playstation and ps2 and they were great consoles.  I was really pissed with the ps3.

Sony promised so much before the release and when it came out, it was mediocre to crappy at best.  Eventually when developers figured out the stupid hardware, they were able to make games that were at the same level of the 360, it took a long time.  That is a far cry from what appeared to be a system that was supposed to blow away the 360.  All the power of cool cell processor tech they were hyping turned out to be Sony BS.  There were so many other blunders along the way like the Home, security issues, Move etc.

I have very little confidence in Sony because their upper management seem to be clueless.  Has there been a lot of changes in leadership that lead people to believe that they may get back on track with the PS4?
