Hey, I'm just doing my part to get this thing to the 2nd page, where the real impressions will start. Or did that not carry over from GG?

Hey, I'm just doing my part to get this thing to the 2nd page, where the real impressions will start. Or did that not carry over from GG? Not you! Canuck. The real Okami thread is here: http://www.gamingtrend.com/forums/index.php/topic,14423.msg177319.html#msg177319Impressions should be posted there. Not this cheap Jonny Come Lately stole everything it knows from that thread thread! Boycott!

Your thread ain't an "Impressions" thread. There can be MORE THAN ONE place to discuss games. I wanna see some impressions here. Next you'ze be complainin' about my F.U.R. polls. "Fur pole". I didn't even THINK of it that way until I just said it.

LOL I wasn't trying to usurp anything-the other thread was more of an "expectations" thread than an "impressions" thread and it already had 84 replies. All the impressions would have gotten lost in the noise. Now I'm going to bump this up to get it close to the top than that "other" spinoff thread.

That sucks because it's not in HD. "Sorry, but trying to play a game on my HDTV in SD resolution is like rubbing sandpaper over my eyes" I'll just have to hope it comes out on the 360 or PS3, 'cause otherwise it's unplayable.Seriously though... TML's comment basically brought up my point on the whole "Wii isn't worth playing because it doesn't do HD" debate. I wonder how many of the people who feel that way are willing to pay a new game price for Okami when it only runs in 480i? Me, I still side with not caring about the resolution or anything so long as the game is great. And Okami looks to be a perfect example of that. 480i, and yet I bet it'll be gorgeous and a blast to play. I'm done hijacking the thread; it was just too good an opportunity to pass up.

After calling everywhere and their mother 'shipment's not in' I struck gold at Gamecrazy.
Game is in my hands and I'll fire it up over lunch.
Manual is thick (for a console) and weighs in at 40 pages. Looks like it explains some of the mythology, who the gameplay and gives to obligatory tips..
Oh and it smells really nice too...smells like....love.

One very nice vidoe game memory I have was waiting for the shipment of Metal Gear Solid to arrive at a Gamecrazy one night. It came in right before close and a bunch of us were sitting around talking and waiting for it. The cool thing is I knew nothing about the game beforehad and they just mentioned that they were waiting for them to come in on the same day as the ship date and they hyped it up enough that I bought it. Good thing, too, because it ruled.

It might be that I've been anticipating this game for so long, but reading the manual has gotten me even more exciting. I have a meeting in 20 minutes and then I should be able to get a solid half hour in with it!

Well, prepare yourself to spend at least half of that half hour watching the opening backstory and cutscenes and character intros and stuff. INTERMINABLE! Too much yappin, especially when it's all text and Japanese gibberish. I like to be dropped into a game much more quickly and let the story develop rather than sit through this much intro stuff.
Beautiful game though. Control feels pretty tight and fluid.

Ok. I couldn't wait!
I booted it up and the opening cinematic is gorgeous.
The 'voice' of the narrator though is going to get real grating if it's used a lot though.
On into gameplay!
Harumph. I meant to publish this 20 minutes ago. Silly warning about subsequent posts!

Some of the reviews I've read stated that it took a couple of hours for the game to really pick up.

I know. It just sounds more Japanesey than most game gibberish. Played another half hour and so far it's shaping up to be every bit as fantastic as the reviews make it sound. I'd lost almost all interest in my aging PS2 but this game is a real grabber with its artful style. It's really cool the way the chief innovation of the brushstroke power ties in so nicely with the colorful, artistic presentation. It looks nothing like any game I've ever played. I like this wolf I'm playing as too. He pretty much just behaves like a wolf, shaking and growling and pouncing. His little bug companion could be funnier but they make a nice pair. One thing that's sort of strange about combat is that the enemies appear suddenly out of thin air and a magic barrier surrounds you, like an arena. You jump around and fight (which is fun and controls great) then once you're done fighting, it pauses and shows you a screen with bonuses for Time, Yen, and other miscellaneous scores. It's early yet, but I'm not sure I like that. It really seems to break the immersion, almost like a JRPG. I dunno. Maybe I'll get used to it, or maybe that's not how it is all through the game. I'd prefer a Zelda-style open land that I can wander with enemies I can see, approach, fight, and continue, uninterrupted. Back to it...

Mind blowing as in you couldn't beleve you ran out of memory space, or mind blowing as in you find it amazing as to how it looks? And my EB/Gamestop/whatever has had some serious UPS issues as of late (and they're blaming UPS). Games just aren't coming in the day/time they're expecting them to anymore. Anybody have any guesses as to why? I like this wolf I'm playing as too. He pretty much just behaves like a wolf, shaking and growling and pouncing. His little bug companion could be funnier but they make a nice pair.
BTW - from what I know, the main character is a she.

Susano-style! Exploding Implosion!!! Man, I'm lovin this game. I just finished all the quests in the first village and the charm of the characters and game world are really starting to come out. The encounter with Susano is a riot. I'm also starting to have some more wide open areas to explore on my map with more open-ended goals. Addictive factor is high with this one. Mind blowing as in you couldn't beleve you ran out of memory space, or mind blowing as in you find it amazing as to how it looks? Mind blowing as in, I was being a smart ass.

Is that a spoiler? If so and I get there and it is I'm gonna do something drastic. Heh. Not in the least! Just a funny quote. How can a non-sequitur be a spoiler? My daughter's been monopolizing the TV (she's addicted to My Neighbor Totoro) but I played a while longer and discovered how combat works later in the game once the world opens up a bit. It seems there are floating green banners scattered around the landscape and when you approach one you go into combat. I'd still prefer to see the actual creatures on the landscape but at least the combat doesn't happen out of nowhere. It really is a cross between action adventure combat (real time fighting) and console RPG combat (enclosed arena, post-combat stat screen.) One thing I like is the way you get experience points in the form of Praise from creatures you feed or people you help. Reminiscent of the way villagers would worship you in Black & White.
