The list will be released at 8:30PM EST. I am hoping that the games on the list will all have the same graphical upgrades that Halo and Halo 2 have been confirmed as getting!

Here is a Q&A: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilityqa.htmEvery original Xbox game will be upscaled to 720p and 1080i, and will take advantage of Xbox 360’s anti-aliasing capabilities, delivering a picture that is clearer and crisper than anything available on Xbox. YES!!!!

First thing I see:
Phantom Dust is -not- on the list. Same for Otogi.
Not games to be missed, IMO (although I will admit my playtime on Otogi is very brief).
Anyone else see any notable omissions?

All of the current year's sports games!! Guess they want you to pony up $60 for a new copy of NHL 2K6 since your $20 copy won't work!!
Thank God for He-Man making the cut!!
I'm going to assume this list is going to be growing...

I'm going to assume this list is going to be growing... I sure hope so! I am hoping that NFL2k5 makes the cut soon....maybe EA pressured MS not to have it compatable at launch or Madden 06 wouldn't be out at launch....

MechAssault 1&2 are pretty noticeable as they are MGS games, as is Amped 2 which is also missing.
No DOAU even though DOA3 is on the list.
No Oddworld games.
And as mentioned above, no Psychonauts! :x
Hmmm, I'm sure there's more...
Oh, no Burnout games either!

Crap list. Realistically, just about all of the original Xbox games should be able to be played on the 360. But I guess great games such as Psychonauts, Burnout Revenge, Star Wars Battlefront 2, DOAU, nor Otogi or Phantom Dust possibly won't be playable on the 360?
Hopefully this "future list" makes these titles playable. If not, that's just lame.

The nice thing about making your own BC list through software is that you can cut out titles that might impact future sales. DOA:U in 720p, might really hurt DOA4's sales. Same with NFK2k5 hurting Madden 06, PGR2 hurting PGR3 etc... I am sure all the games will be compatable in the end...but we are at the mercy of MS and their sales weasels.

No Splinter Cell games. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is in, Warrior Within isn't. No Beyond Good and Evil. No Panzer Dragoon Orta. No Conker. Overall, I'm very disappointed if not surprised. Most of the Xbox games that I still have an interest in playing or replaying did not make the cut. No X-Men Legends 1 or 2? Mercenaries? BG: DA 1 & 2? BG: DA 2 is backwards compatable.

Wow! So much worse then I thought! May be a deal breaker for me. I have room for one console in the living room. The one required game I need is Lego Star Wars for my two boys. Hopefully they'll add it soon. I also only have one spare component input that I switch between the XBox, and HDTV. I can't do another set of wire swaps.
And no SSX: On Tour? No X-Men 2? Some of the top recent games.
Lame! Lame! Lame!

there are A LOT of choices on that list that are pretty um... questionable??? i guess is the best word. but the fact that the list is so large gives me hope for the future. overall im pretty stoked. i would have been more worried if there were 20 of the best games, no filler. 200 shows me that theres progress and its probably going to continue.

I honestly thought that there would be more games that I own out of the gate... I own 21 XBox games currently (how the heck did that happen!?!?) and only 8 of them are playable on the 360. Granted, I've not touched most of the ones that won't be usable on the 360 for a while, but still, sort of dissapointing.
That said, I'm not buying this so that I can replay Madden 2002, Simpsons Hit & Run or Morrowind.

It seems like to me a lot of xbox live games are missing. Maybe there is an issue there. The Q&A said the top sellers and most popular Live! titles have been a priority. All the second tier titles are there because they use similar technology. Makes sense as once you get something running that uses an engine like Renderware you could easily get allot others running too.

No Counter-Strike??!! Or Unreal Championship 1 & 2?
And of course as already mentioned Starwars battlefront 2. I dont have an xbox but was thinking about getting the 360.. but I *have* to be able to play counter-strike at the very least. Hopefully they add some more games to that list ASAP. Surely starwars battlefront 2 is a "best selling game". At least the first one was, which isn't on the list either.

I'd love to see a "working on" list, 'cause there are some major omissions.
I'm not sure why Microsoft is doing this all themselves. I'm sure there was some kind of deal they could've work out with companies like EA to get some peons in there Alberquerque office to crank out some patches.
And the big question: Has anyone heard anything about moving saves yet?

I am pretty thrilled over the BC of some games. I'm glad to give KOTOR2 and Buufy 2: Chaos Breed a spin as I can rent those. Also, on the site is a Q&Athat should answer alot of question. For example : Xbox.com: At E3, Microsoft said Xbox 360 would run the "top-selling Xbox games." What did you mean by that? Todd: That's a fair question. We've been working hard to certify as many original Xbox games to work on Xbox 360 as possible. This process is a detailed procedure that we're committed to, but it means that not every game is going to be ready on day one.
Naturally we started with the games that have sold the best and the ones with a large Xbox Live® following. We also worked on games we knew were important titles for this holiday, and we're proud to have made games like Half-Life® 2 (Valve), Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland (Activision, Inc.), and Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (Konami Digital Entertainment) backward compatible.
As we focused on the top sellers, we discovered that many other games worked due to similarities in their technology. As an added benefit, games that share engines and technology have been in some cases easier to certify for backward compatibility and have made the launch lineup as a result.
Xbox.com: How is your backward compatibility solution going to work?
Todd: As you’ve heard from us before, backward compatibility on Xbox 360 is done through software. Now that we’ve solved the technical challenge and the emulator is working, we’re certifying each original Xbox title by hand to run on Xbox 360.
What I’m really proud to tell you and your readers is that it’s easy to get the emulation software, and it’s free. We’ll give gamers a choice—you can get the latest software updates from Xbox Live, burn a CD from xbox.com or sign up on Xbox.com for a CD that can be delivered to your home at a nominal shipping and handling fee. Once you get the CD, put it in your Xbox 360 and you’re ready to go.
Xbox.com: Will there be any benefits to playing original Xbox games on my Xbox 360 console?
Todd: Absolutely. One of the great things about gaming on Xbox 360 is the satisfaction of knowing that every game will be playable in high definition. We are now proud to reveal that this extends to the original Xbox games as well. Every original Xbox game will be upscaled to 720p and 1080i, and will take advantage of Xbox 360’s anti-aliasing capabilities, delivering a picture that is clearer and crisper than anything available on Xbox.

Has anyone heard anything about moving saves yet? Any info on that, Hetz? Xbox.com: What about saved games as well as free and purchased downloadable content? Will that be transferable to Xbox 360? Todd: Content will not be transferable from Xbox to Xbox 360, including saved data and downloadable content. However, all free downloadable content for original Xbox games plus premium content for Halo 2 will be available on Xbox Live Marketplace for free. Xbox 360 owners will be able to get this free with an Xbox Live Silver or Gold membership.
