Just a note, in your post you said that it's a "$50 price drop across the board" but it's actually only $50 for the Premium, the Core drops $20 and the Elite $30.

That's not quite as much as I was hoping for, I know that.

Agreed. Instead of putting the nail into Sony's PS3 coffin, they allowed it to become a festering zombie.

That and CeeKay is no where near as popular, well-liked, respected, financially stable, or socially accepted as Calvin Klein.

LOL Does that mean that Resident Evil 5 will end up being a better gaming experience on the PS3? smile

Well the price cut is scheduled to come into effect tomorrow in the US and so far there's not a peep out of MS Canada that a similar price cut will be issued north of the 49th parallel. The futureshop.ca, bestbuy.ca and toysrus.ca sites are still listing the premier bundle at $499 CDN complete with 1 or 2 games you probably would never didn't ask for.

With the CDN dollar currently exchanging with the US at record high rates and the border crossing seeing some of the heaviest shopper traffic in 3 decades; I'm going to personally laugh myself silly if MS Canada is foolish enough to not follow suit.

Awesome Laner, thanks for posting this!
Well for once I can finally compliment MS Canada for doing the right thing and I can eat some crow about this. The $100 cut on the Premium means I'll definitely be buying a 360 in time to play Mass Effect smile thumbsup ; just hope the 65nm SKU is on shelves by then. The extra $50 over the US cut helps to erase the artificially high price of the equivalent CDN models. Kudos to them for lowering the Core 100 to $299 CDN as well, which prices it at just $10 more than the Wii. This should help it start selling again and get some of the bigger retailers to restock it.

MS Canada has given me little to be happy about over the past 2 years, so I'm going to gladly go eat that crow now and enjoy every last bad tasting mouthfull of it.  icon_biggrin

Joystiq now says that Target is listing the Core as discontinued. Coupled with the earlier story that Best Buy had done the same, is it safe to call the Core price drop a closeout? Do we need to call this a "not a price drop" like we did with Sony?  icon_twisted icon_wink

So the Core system is now even more of a 'tard pack'. Since the real cost is a core + a memory unit(unless for whatever bizarre reason you never want to save anything) then the difference is now only $30 to the premium.

Man I wish there had been someone around to bitch slap the moron who first came up with the idea of the Core and put some sense into them.

Son of a bitch. I bought my 360 on July 8th. They make the price cuts effective August 8th. One day after my 30 day price match from Circuit City expired.

How many scruples do you have?  You could buy a 2nd 360, return it unopened for a full price refund using the 1st receipt, then pricematch the 2nd receipt for the price drop.

Anything that goes wrong around here can almost always be blamed on marketing.  I, personally, have never made a mistake (except when I expected that Purge would carry his weight in the Halo 3 beta.)

JCC, a price-drop is a price drop. Even the PS3 had a price drop, but the difference between a 80GB and 60GB is negligable; the difference between Core and Premium is significant. MS didn't say "PRICE CUT ... [3 day delay] *cough*cough*on_the_discontinued_model_only*cough*"

MS has priced the system lower, and not just on their lowest system. They've bundled extra in it on the premium AND priced it lower for good. It may seem a marginal difference, but it holds significance.

Overall cost of entry (old core price < new premium price) hasn't changed though, and you are right on that point.

Purge, I was really just joking around. I considered both Sony and MS's moves price drops, because ultimately I could buy one product for less one day than I could the day before. I was merely saying that if the Core is indeed going to be discontinued and if you considered Sony's price drop to not be a price drop since it was the same cost as the original 20G PS3, then you should hold MS to the same standard. In fact, as was pointed out earlier, MS's is even worse since the cost of getting the cheapest 360 would actually go UP! Again, just having fun and....

Well the official CDN price drop date is Aug 14th, but due to price protection policies both futureshop and bestbuy are already selling the premium at it's new $399 price tag. That's the same price that a core cost just a week ago. The core SKU however, is still conspicuously absent from both sites.  paranoid

LOL... but with the core now price cut to just $10 CDN more than the $289 Wii, you'd think they'd at least stock 13 of them now.  icon_lol
