Here are some ini tweaks that can be done on highend systems to really improve the look of the game. I tried it on mine and it looks awesome! The LOD issues are gone and the grass popup is no longer an issue!: )

Before (offical PC Max Settings):

After (with INI Tweaks):

(Tweaked INI)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v456/enigmatic_cat/Oblivion2a.jpg

Here is how you do it:

(got it from the Official Forum)

[Grass]
iMinGrassSize=80
fGrassEndDistance=13000.0000
fGrassStartFadeDistance=12000.0000
bGrassPointLighting=1
bDrawShaderGrass=1
iGrassDensityEvalSize=2
iMaxGrassTypesPerTexure=2
fWaveOffsetRange=1.7500
fGrassWindMagnitudeMax=125.0000
fGrassWindMagnitudeMin=5.0000
fTexturePctThreshold=0.3000

As for water, get some more Oblivion goodness out of it my modding:
bUseWaterReflectionsMisc=1
bUseWaterReflectionsStatics=1
bUseWaterReflectionsTrees=1
bUseWaterReflectionsActors=0
bUseWaterReflections=1
bUseWaterHiRes=1

And when you want more shadows...

bDoStaticAndArchShadows=1
bDoActorShadows=1

uGridsToLoad=5

change that up to 10, seems that 7 or 8 seems to work best...I use 7 and it looks MUCH better. If you increase it above 7 or 8...then the reflections on the water will start to look a little strange. To somewhat fix the water, change this:

uNumDepthGrids = 1 (it's 3 by default).

They are working on a better fix, but this helps somewhat.

uGridDistantCount=25
(can be changed up to 50)

uGridDistantCount controls how much of the actual detailed game world is loaded at a time, and uGridsToLoad controls how much it will move the boundaries every time you move in and out of an area.

Fair warning guys, it takes MUCH longer to load a save game (if you're outside) if you increase the Grid options.

Here is what one of the devs said about the above change.

Yeah if you have a lot of RAM, this is a good change to make. There are tons of tweaks you can make to the game, but there's only so much space in an options menu

Any tweak to 'fix' the mouse lag?  It seems to be tied a little to FPS so I doubt it.

Basically my mouse is not anywhere near as responsive in Oblivion as it is in other games, or on my desktop.  Mouselook is fine, the in game sensitivity works there.  But its moving the cursor around in the interface that is the problem.  Its really bad, so much so that when I stop playing Oblivion, I am overshooting everything on my desktop.

That's exactly what it is. You're settings are just too high, or you're in a too highly detailed of an area.

And Hetz, nice find. That's one hell of a change. I'll put that 2gig of RAM I have to good use. biggrin

My mouse worked a lot better when I lowered my resolution of 1280x1024 to 1024x768.

Does anyone know how to extract/find the nif and dds files so that you can make your own cutome items?

Also, does anyone know what is needed to make my own custome nif/dds objects as well?

Also does anyone know how to add multiple quantities of an item to a container without dragging 1 by 1? Like say I wanted a container with 100000 arrows or something...

Mouse lag in menus is not related in any way to your FPS. Its just sluggish.

Well it seems like it should not be...but it definitely is, for me anyway.  If I am at 1600x1200, one of the reasons I choose not to play at that res is because of the godawful mouse lag in the journal screen.  Not that I have a particularly dogass FPS at that res, its 30+ inside easy but the lag is still there.

Go down to 800x600 and there is zero mouse lag, its as precise as it ought to be.

Other people having this same problem.  I suspect even more are but can not post on the forums because the forums have not been sending out the validation link emails for new accounts for at least a week, maybe longer.

Kathode can you look into this?

And here's a slew of other tweaks to try as far as graphical detail go:

And another blurb about the grass, and how much of a frame rate hit it is (and also gives a few more settings to try):

So, mouse lag fix?  The Cool Bits thing doesnt work for everyone (and no one with an ATI card).  The Flip queue size thing for ATI cards does not work for me.

Bethesda tech support has posted nothing about it as far as I know, and they havent responded to my ticket.  The official forums are bugged so you can not create a log in if you did not already have one.  Well you can but you never get the validation email, or I havent despite registering repeatedly.

There are a lot of people affected by this issue.
