What I'm curious to see, is the number of people who have games they woudl have liiked t buy, but could not because there were too many games released in this 3 1/2 -month Holiday Season (September-> December).
This is the first time in a while I've had to neglect buying games I want because of too many choices all at once. Unless you're quite ealthy and can afford everyone thrown out, I think most people are like me and have had to "thin the herd". Normally I can afford about 1-2 games per month.
I'm also concerned that it's economic suicide for smaller developers and publishers to release their games amoungst such a heavy load of big hitters.
WARNING, I'm replicating this on my 3 homes (Qt3, here, and Octopus Overlords), so please don't yell at me if you've seen this already.

I pretty much cut out console games. I so wanted to get Xmen Legends, Spiderman 2, Halo 2, Fable, GTA SA but I just had to control myself.

I should of added the list of games I want but cannot afford to buy right now as well. Here they are:
* Everquest 2. * DaoC Catacombs. * Vampire Bloodlines. * Chronicles of Riddick. * Knights of Honor (import). * CodeName Panzers: Phase One. * Battles in Normandy. * Hearts of Iron Platinum. * Call of Duty United Offensive. * Star Wars Battlefront.
When June-July rolls around and we have NOTHING new to pick from, then I might get caught up, but these companies will not get retail price as they will have hit bargain bin prices - or worse yet for them, used copies will be sold instead.
Adding the following because now that they're patched I'd like to try em out, but not enough time/money right now:
* Silent Storm. * Heroes of WWII.

I skipped at least a couple(Pirates, Vamp:Blood) so far due to there being too many out about the same time.

I always curtail my game purchasing the last two months of the year because I know I will get a few games for Christmas and I will also get a few Best Buy gift cards. I plan on going to Best Buy on Sunday to purchase an Xbox. This is my first console purchase since I bought a Nintendo 64 a few years back.

That is a wise choice Tim, wise indeed. Everyone should have known that with Microsoft's power. the Xbox would become an amazing system, well supported and also well stocked with gaming goodness.
I usually have the cashflow to buy what I want, though I put many games on the purchase backburner until I have time to get to them. I get many of my games here through trades or deals, and they sit on my shelf until the time comes to whip 'em out.

The two that really spring to mind that I want, but haven't been able to pick up, are Rome: Total War, and LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth.
I also wanted to pick up the Escalation expansion to Joint Operations.
All of them skipped because I have to finish Christmas shopping.

The only games I've passed on this year were Vampire: Bloodlines, Battle for Middle Earth and Rome Total War. I was on the fence for all three.
