Got this as a link on gmail and just about fell out of my chair.  You can join a class action lawsuit against Bungie because Halo 3 isn't really 720p.

There's a number of reasons I haven't rushed out and bought Halo 3, but not properly supporting 720p would be at the very bottom of my list. I'm currently playing Halo 2 co-op with a few buddies of mine and it looks plenty good enough for me even at 480p.
I mean what gives here, is it actually graphically gimped because of this or is this just a bunch of spoiled graphics whores taking a shot at Bungie?

Well, mostly it's probably a bunch of lawyers trying to make some money.  I find it hard to believe any but a minuscule fraction, if any, of the x million people who bought Halo 3 would have canceled their orders had it even been advertised as only 480p widescreen. They bought it because it was Halo 3.

I looked on their front page and there are about five or six I could reasonably join smile  I would not touch something on "classactionconnect.com" with a ten-foot pole though icon_lol

Bungie's Defense:  We could program it to display at 30000p - but it's gonna look like a NES title.

Yeah, god forbid they make a graphics trade off for huge sprawling areas, tons of enemies and friendlies on screen and fluid framerates.

Quote from: Bungie's Luke Smith
Bungie later confirmed the brewing scandal in its latest weekly update. "The reason we chose this slightly unorthodox resolution and this very complex use of two buffers is simple enough to see--lighting," wrote Bungie's Luke Smith. "We wanted to preserve as much dynamic range as possible--so we use one for the high dynamic range and one for the low dynamic range values. Both are combined to create the finished on screen image...In fact, if you do a comparison shot between the native 1152x640 image and the scaled 1280x720, it's practically impossible to discern the difference.

"We would ignore it entirely were it not for the internet's propensity for drama where none exists," he continued. "In fact the reason we haven't mentioned this before in weekly updates, is the simple fact that it would have distracted conversation away from more important aspects of the game, and given tinfoil hats some new gristle to chew on as they catalogued their toenail clippings."

Other Xbox 360 games said to render at a resolution lower than 720p include Bizarre Creations' Project Gotham Racing 3, Rare's Perfect Dark Zero, and Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider: Legend.

I'd prefer if they had made a graphics trade off for a discernable well written story free of every action movie/game cliche in the book.

I think they could have pulled off 720p on the PS3.

+1 And that's the sort of thing that is at the top of my 'Reasons to wait for a Halo 3 price drop' list.
