there are way to many ds games coming out so soon.  I know four off the top of my head which I know for sure I want, not counting any from this list like harvest moon that I wouldn't mind picking up.  It honestly hurts my head alittle.  Also I am interested in the Rocket Slime game even though I don't know much about it.

Huh. Out of the entire list, it's 3-on-3 that I'd jump for first. And where the hell are the reviews for Lego Star Wars? All the other consoles got 'em.

Harvest Moon hasn't been getting too favorable of reviews  icon_frown so I will probably pass. I am interested in Mario 3 on 3 hoops, Megaman Zx has gotten good reviews and I am definately interested in Mechassault eventhough it's not wi-fi.

Harvest Moon never gets good reviews, so you shouldn't base your decision on that.  I think AWL has gotten some of the best reviews for an HM game and it is considered to be one of the worst HM games by fans.

Well it's not the scores but what I've read in said reviews. Magical Melody seems to me, the best HM game I've played. HM DS goes in a different direction and it doesn't sound as appealing. Not saying it's bad, but from what I've read the game could be a lot better.

I'm taking a hard look at HM DS but the recent previews have me taking a step back. The previews are bashing poor stylus control as their main complaint. Any news on this?

That would work if it wasn't for the fact that next week alone, there are two more.  Yeah, I guess I could spread out the 15 DS games I want this fall, but my problem is that some games end up being rare (I'm looking at you Trauma Center and Phoenix Wright).  I passed those up last Christmas thinking I would just get them at the beginning of this year and I didn't end up getting Phoenix Wright until last month.

Good point on the rare/limited print type games, especially since the used market on GBA/DS games seems to be pretty tight. Gameboy games hold their value for entirely too long. Any mario games or the Lego SW game you'll certainly be able to find used in good quantity for a long time to come. There are a bunch of DS ggames I've been waiting to find used/discounted and have had little luck.

best buy is still doing a buy two get one free deal until the end of September, you just have to register an email address. I tried it myself and it works but only on games listed as released not pre-order.

I might just use that offer once the September 19th games get released.  I'm thinking Pokemon Blue Rescue Team, Rocket Slime, and Harvest Moon.  Though at this point they don't have Rocket Slime listed at all on their site.

Thought this might help a few who can't make a decision on what to get.

73% is getting killed?  Especially when the major sites (i.e. the major inflators) haven't reviewed?

The 1up review is troubling, however (though it went from a 4.5 to a 6 out of 10).  3 on 3 just went from a definite purchase to wait and see for me.

Unfortunately, my order of interest: 1) Mario Hoops 2) Mechassault 3) Megaman got reversed, and 2) slipped to wait and see status, as well.

Has anyone played Megaman yet?  I've tried some others in this series, and they haven't held my interest.  The difficulty is something I can't get into.  I've heard conflicting reports on easy mode and am curious if it's something I should try (the sparse save points worry me, as well).

IGN gave Mario Hoops 6.8. That's not so hot. And IGN's usually the generous site.

Scores all from IGN:

Mario Hoops 6.8
MechAssault: Phantom War 7.0
Mega Man ZX 8.2

Wow, an 8.2 is average for you? Damn son. Shoot even in IGN's scoring system a 6.0 is an okay game; thus meaning atleast above average. I can personally say that I have enjoyed several games given a score in the 5.5 to 7.9 range. After reading the actual reviews though you can see that everyone of the games has strong points and some detractors, you need to decide if those detractors mean as much to you as they did the reviewer. I thought the majority of us ignored scores.

I mean the biggest knock against Phantom War was the lack of Online play. If that's not something you care about; then the game sounds like it would be a lot of fun. With the hassle of friend codes I am almost happy to not have online MP.  Tongue

Of course I am not going to be getting any of these games because there was at least one thing in each review that made me not want the game, but I don't think you can use the number to judge a game, and 8.2 is way above average.

These days I don't look at review scores at all.  I've read far too many reviews that sound glowing and they give a low score or sound bad and they give it a high one.  I take a lot more stock in reading forum impressions and also reading the review itself and making my own determination from that.  Take Harvest Moon, for intance.  All the reviews have been 6s, but in reading the text, I find nothing wrong with the things they've pointed out as being bad.  I'll be picking it up today, despite the 6s.  If I'd have listened to them, I wouldn't have bought Dead Rising or Enchanted Arms or Starfox.

Sure I may miss some gems here and there by ignoring the sub 8's, but life's too short, and I'm too broke, for me to justify picking up anything but the best for any given system. I hardly have enough time to play the few games I have as it is!

Mechassault sounds interesting. Cant wait to here forum peoples comments or other reviewers.

The IGN one bothers me when he states the DS isnt as powerful as an XBOX. Im shocked by this revelation!

"The developers may have tried to give Nintendo DS owners the true Xbox experience on the lesser handheld hardware, but let's be realistic: the Nintendo DS is nowhere near an Xbox in power. So, don't be surprised at the "dumbed down" visuals like lower-resolution textures, barebones polygonal structures and somewhat simplistic mountainous terrain. "

As long as it looks like most DS games I'm fine with the graphics.

Remember it's IGN.  Given their readership I'm surprised they didn't word it "News flash.  A less powerful console will be less powerful than a more powerful console."

Just spent a few minutes with Mario Hoops. Looks great. Sounds good. Controls seem iffy. Specifically, recognition of block and jump strokes is spotty. Why recognizing jumps should be harder than shots (both an up stroke) isn't clear.

Dangit!  I saw Cooking Mama in the store today and did not get it.  Now the Gamestop site says there are none anywhere around me.

I did pick up Megaman and Mechassault, though.  Spent a good chunk of time with each.

Megaman was a lot of fun.  Very smooth, very polished.  I suck at boss battles.  And I'm playing on easy.  One issue, though: there doesn't seem to be a map anywhere (unless you pick one up later, but I needed it early on) and the levels seem to be quite confusing.  I picked up the guide to help in that regard (and for reference on hidden disks), but there's no friggin map in the guide, either!  At one point, the guide just said, "Get to B1" with no indication of how to do it.  After a bit of play, I did notice markers at the bottom of the screen in the teleport/save rooms and there are street signs around, but they are kind of easy to miss and not easy to make out.  Anyway, that aside, it does seem to be a lot of fun.

Mechassault really suprised me.  I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.  If you've played Syphon Filter on the PSP, then the control scheme seems fairly understandable (and shouldn't be too hard to pick up if you haven't).  However, it's not pulled off quite as successfully, and it produced a hand cramp pretty quickly.  The graphics are pretty good for the DS, except when out of the mech.  The human form looks goofy.  The touch controls are a little rough around the edges, too.  Figuring out that you had to hold down the arrow to exit/enter a mech was a struggle.  Going into defense mode is way to far away from the aiming buttons (and it doesn't feel right to take your hand off movement controls).  The biggest problem, though, is switching weapons.  It's not as quick as it should be, as you have to stop aiming to do it.  I can see this being a problem down the road.  And yet...and yet, there was something about it that worked for me, compelled me to play three or four missions as opposed to the one I was going to play to "try it out."  So I guess if you're willing to put up with some crap, it may be worth it.

There is a map in the game.  Hit Start and then I think you move left with the D-pad (You can move right and left to workthrough various menus here, but one of them is the map).
