This is just in that range where I can't instant buy but I want to find a way to buy!  I wish it would have been $300 so I could just ignore it!

blue.  I ddin't even realize there was a black until I saw the PR and it didn't show up when I searched at first (I had to go through the blue listing just to find the black for my links above).  I really wish they had red or a reddish color.

This pricing isn't at the level of the PS3 for $600 debacle of Sony but it is Nintendo going out of their affordable pricing image which they have pretty much always been. I believe after the first couple of months when all the fanboys get theirs the system sales slow considerably where Nintendo has to drop the price faster then they want too.

Yeah, $250 is just high enough to give me pause as well.  Unless early impressions are crazy-go-nuts and my willpower breaks, I'll probably wait until there are a few more must-have games, or possibly until the 3DS Lite comes out.

Wow - I was sure it would be $300.  I've never bought a gaming machine at launch, but this is very tempting.  Hopefully, they'll release a full list of launch window titles so I can decide.

The good news, though, is that if the 3D part sucks or causes headaches or whatever, you can shut it off and it becomes a portable even better than the DS, so no matter what, I don't think this can be the next virtual boy.  I'm excited to see how the 3D works, though.

But the bad news is that if the 3d features give you a headache or don't work very well, you're paying a premium for a display that you're not using.  I betcha that 3d screen is adding $50 to the price, minimum.

Yeah, I guess you're right, but I also paid $250 for a PSP when they came out, so the price is fine even if I never used the 3D.  I think I will be fine, though.

The DSi XL launched at $190, and the 3DS is significantly more powerful, has more features, and only costs $60 more.  I have only a passing interest in the 3D capabilities of the 3DS, and I'm fine with paying $250 for it.

I certainly won't buy until the psp2 details come out. 3D could be nice, but could be a waste on the size screen. Feels like it'll end up gimicky... a lot like people who bought the wii and didn't play much after a month or two. Screen resolution and controls seem like they'll be substantially behind the psp2, although cartridges allow resale of games which is nice...

I am very very disturbed and disappointed at the engadget impressions of the 3D features.

If next week rolls around and the PSP2 looks awesome, I might switch my preorder to that instead.

Yeah, but it will still impress your friends. And as we all know, impressing friends is the most important reason to buy new technology.

between the asking price and this, i think i'll hold off a year or so.

i also intend to pick up an ipad and upgrade the pc this year in time for ES:V so getting a second mobile gaming system is looking a bit of a reach.

I think I'm going to wait for the inevitable redux version.  Probably the same price, but a little bit thinner and perhaps the kinks worked out of the 3D effect and by that time there will be a whole backlog of great games.

that'll probably be after they release the brown, orange, teal, mauve, taupe and lime green versions.

Well, I for one can't wait to get my hands on one. 250 is very doable by the end of March. Kid Icarus and Zelda 3D will be worth it.  nod

This is me, too.  At the very least, it's a souped up DS.  That already gets a hell of a lot of play from me.  All the other stuff is just gravy, but potentially really, really great gravy.

I can't remember the last time I turned on my DS or PSP.  The IPhone/IPad fulfill my portable gaming needs just fine.  Although if the PSP2 has 2 analog sticks I would be very tempted.

This uses cartridges right?  After putting all my games on a DS flashcart I don't think I want to go back to having multiple, easy to lose carts again.  At least not until the price drops a lot.

I to.d the daughter the 3d might be lame.

She don't care.   She read more about the camera.  She been wanting this for a year.

She was sort of pissed about the colors though.  Black and blue didn't turn her crank.

I think I'm going to hold off. I love the idea, and the upgraded graphics are really exciting for a handheld, but I'm going to back off until I can get games cheaper. It's kind of my stock in trade.

Holding off as well. Beyond the high price for the unit/games the low battery life has given me pause. Will wait to see what the next revision of the device brings.
