Some Pre-vis CG work on a unnamed Star wars game for next gen consoles - you can check it out here/crosses fingers that the real game looks like this and of course that it's on the Wii :-) [EDIT] Links working again. :-)

Okay, ever since Jedi Outcast came out, I've wanted a crazy badass Sith game, where you almost literally tear through your enemies with insanely vicious force powers, like a force crush, or force rip, or force explode.
I'm not sure if that makes me a bad person, or a visionary.

The reason why it looks prerendered is that the enemies are dynamically reacting to new positioning using the AI muscle movement system.
Basically they have AI controlling basic muscle movements so that the AI will actually do things like reach out to grab ledges if they're falling, dynamically get up after falling no matter how they land, etc...
In this video, you see a stormtrooper grab on to a ledge while being thrown around by force powers. This is part of that AI system and you can see how he holds on tight as the jedi yanks him away.

Shit. It is pre-rendered, although they are calling it pre-vis which is more of a visual effects term than a game term and might be a result of the supposed integration of ILM assets into the rest of Lucas's offshoots.

Poor Stormstroopers. Always getting force tossed around. If I got assigned to duty, I'd throw up my hands and say, "What's the point? We've got blasters, they've got laser swords and magic powers." I hope they get good benefits and healt coverage.

No way, that video was bullshit. There's no way the game is going to play and look like that, it was definately pre-rendered and if its not then those environment look like shit. Plus, there was no aiming mechanism, its obvious when the Jedi picks up that debri and throws it at the tie fighter.
I'll get excited when I see some in-game footage, assuming it doesn't look crummy like most other Star Wars games.

Ok, I was keeping my opinion to myself, because it looked liked people enjoyed it and I didn't want to rain on someone else's parade. However, I see some other people have the same dissenting viewpoint I had...
It reminds me exactly of the 'trapper town' demo before Hl2 came out. It's not pre-rendered, but so heavily scripted that it lacks any punch. (doing something on rails is just boring.) The lack of a target cursor, as ridah pointed out, is pretty much an indicator. The whole final bit, with the stormtrooper crying out and grabbing that ledge just seems fake. If turtle is right, and that is just a feature of ai + articulation, then cool. However, absolutely nothing in any of those shots looked dynamic to me. It justs looks scripted.

Sorry if I wasn't clear in my initial post - i don't think any of this is gameplay.
But rather pre-visual work (possibly using the early models and artwork) to demonstrate what the goal for the final game should be like.
in other words pretty much in the same vein as everything Sony showed at E3 2005. ;-)

"However, absolutely nothing in any of those shots looked dynamic to me. It justs looks scripted." That's the goal of Lucasart's new Euphoria technology. The AI will react dynamically to the player's actions and their environment, which would explain the disarmed stormtrooper's attempt to retake his gun, and the one clinging to the wreckage. There's an article about how the technology is used in the new Indiana Jones game here.

being a star wars freak i am.....a couple of questions
how come he used forced lightning?....thats a dark jedi/sith power
if it was that easy to just destroy the enemy(yes i am talking about stormtroopers into the TIEs)...then wouldnt episodes 1 and 2 battles(as well as clone wars)...been somewhat easier...i think they are overpowering the jedi!!
yes, i would have to say that it was proberbly cut scenes...but what the hell,it still looked good

In Jedi Outcast you can use Force Lightning and still be good- same for Jedi Academy and, IIRC, Knights of the Old Republic. if it was that easy to just destroy the enemy(yes i am talking about stormtroopers into the TIEs)...then wouldnt episodes 1 and 2 battles(as well as clone wars)...been somewhat easier...i think they are overpowering the jedi!! He threw alot more than a Stormtrooper into the Tie Fighter, plus he was up against alot less than what most of the Jedi would have fought in the Clone Wars.

Hey man, I was there this year. I wasn't impressed with their continued smoke and mirrors attitude because what they did have on the floor not only wasn't impressive but it was also available on the 360 and looked the exact same.

Neat, but didn't knock my socks off. The first few shots, with multiple troopers, looked like gameplay. The last shot felt very scripted. If it's scripted, my first impression is that this game has potential. If it's new AI tech at work... this game'll be amazing.
