I have been holding off on a replay because I remembered hearing about a next gen remake. Can't seem to find much recent information on this anywhere. Is this still in the works?

I've heard nothing.  I imagine that Vivendi and Activision will be having long talks about some of these projects so I don't hold high hopes...

http://www.riddickgame.com/us/index.html

That link contains the only thing on Vivendi's webpage that has to say about it.

I hope they end up releasing it. I seem to remember the Official Playstation Magazine having a preview of it which said it should be out this Fall. But I would have to verify that.

There were some rumors not long ago that it had been canned but I don't know if they were officially debunked or not.

I remember seeing that article with screenshots over a year ago, but now it is hard to find any info at all. Doesn't sound good.

Trailer for Dark Athena:

http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_9604_en.html

From the previews going around they are saying that the Dark Athena portion is just as long as Escape from Butcher Bay so it's effectively turned into a sequel instead of merely being some bonus content.

Can't wait!

Damn, that trailer does look good! It definitely looks like they've captured some of the look of the movies. I'm glad to see Atari behind it as they seem to be less conservative about games that don't necessarily have mega hit potential.

I can't wait.  Despite loving it, and thinking to this day that it was one of the best and best looking games of last gen, I never got around to finishing it.  Totally looking forward to seeing it get a graphical upgrade, and finally having the chance to finish it, plus there's more content!  Hopefully they put in the dev commentary from the PC release.

I loved Escape from Butcher Bay despite initial trepidation over the whole Vin Deisel/Riddick angle, so I will definitely be in for this one.

I think it's listed for 6-30-2009, so I'm guessing Holiday 2009.

It's actually pegged as first quarter '09 in the PR that Atari sent out this week.  It probably would have already been out if it hadn't been for Vivendi dropping the game along Brutal Legend, World In Conflict, etc earlier this year.

I got about 2/3 through on the Xbox and got very frustrated on a part where you had to do a lot of hand vs. gun combat, so I traded it away. I'm definitely planning on getting this at some point because I would like to see the story play out. Hopefully I'll do better this time. That reminds me, I picked up the Riddick trilogy for about $10 a little while back and I still need to watch it (seen Pitch Black already and some of Chronicles).

Pitch Black was a much better film, imho.  Chronicles had some great moments that could have been fleshed out, but they leaned too heavily on the "messiah" plot for my tastes.  Keeping Riddick an anti-hero without mystical overtones would've made the film much better.

Not just yho:  http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/pitch_black/  http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/chronicles_of_riddick/

Although I'm surprised that Pitch Black has as low a score as it does.  I thought it had been better received.

i thought it was only considered a decent movie when it came out.  i liked it and chronicles, but i really wish it had done well enough to warrant a sequel.  not sure how that would have panned out though, but maybe they could do a prequel or something?  further run ins with the bounty hunter would be kick ass.

efbb is a great part of the storyline and worth going through just for the intro (and ending too)

Have you seen the cartoon? That's the only part of the trilogy I haven't watched any of yet.

Man, I sure hope they do!  That PC commentary with the included screenshots and videos was awesome.  It made me play through the whole game again just to see it all (and that was before Valve had done their HL2 commentary stuff).

Looks exactly like the first, and that is a very good thing.  One of the saddest things to me about the 360 is that Riddick is not backwards compat.   Unforgiveable imo.  I almost kept my old xbox just for that game.  I have the pc game, but it won't play.  Very very sad.

This is a day one purchase for me.
