Are you fucking kidding me?!?! What the fuck is this other than a half-ass rip-off of Nintendo? Sweet Christ on a cross, who the hell thought it a good idea to literally rip-off the Wii this brazenly? It's not like it's going to miraculously stop Nintendo from kicking Microsoft's ass from one end of the planet to the other. Good night nurse, what utter crap. No I don't like it. The original interface wasn't exactly intuitive but at least it didn't bury features behind FLASHY FLASHY WHEEEE!!!!! visuals. Oy!  thumbsdown thumbsdown

I am SO making my 360Mii look like Eurojesus. Back in a flash!

I don't like it.  It's harder to get around in.  I end up just using the blades pop up.

I also find it humorous that the shirt I picked because it was pink and fruity is what PeteRock picked to make it look like himself... fabulous?

And the netflix looked horrid...

Everything I've watched on netflix has been crystal clear...are you guys using HDMI?  How many bars does it show when it's determining your video quality?

Netflix has looked great for me with HDMI, strong connection and my trusty projector.  Beautiful image, at least as clear as DVD from the HD movies (of which the selection is unfortunately woeful...I'll stick to mostly classics, which is fine).

Has anyone run into any problems downloading premium themes?  I tried to download the Gears of War 2 "Hope Runs Deep" premium theme and the download will get to 1% and then I get a "download could not be completed" error.  Fortunately Microsoft was kind enough to take my 250 points despite my not being able to download the purchased item.   disgust

I've tried and retried for two days and to no avail.  Do I cut my losses, accept that I'm out 250 points, and move on to another theme (I really want to see the new premium theme layout), or is there anything I can do?  I'm now wearing about trying another premium theme is Microsoft is again going to take my 250 points but give me nothing to show for it but a sore rear end.   disgust

Graham, there should be some kind of Purchase History or Downloaded Items list somewhere, if you can find it, your premium theme download should be listed there to download again for free.

I think that download is hooped. I got the same one (and the Fable II one) and got the same error on the GoW2: Hope Runs Deep theme.

Gears of war 2 seems to take 3x as long to load from the HD than from the disc.  Is it loading more content because it doesn't have to stream on the fly now?

What's up with that?

I also don't like that the default blade coming out of anything is the spotlight blade.  That's just dumb.

It should default to MyXBOX and like the 'Welcome' blades, you should be able to choose which ones show up and in which order.

Finally, we should definitely have the choice of reverting to the old system.

HDMI, 1080p, 4 bars.

Picture quality is utter shit.  My analog cable channels look better.

Haven't tried watching anything from the HD queue, yet.

So far I've watched a few episodes of The Office in HD, and the Enron documentary in SD.  I've got it connected directly to the router, hooked up via component, and I pretty consistently have four bars.  PQ has been excellent on everything so far.

Now that I've tried HD streaming Netflix, the XBox Live Netflix still gets a giant thumbs down.

The picture isn't bad (though it is vastly sharper in the "native" setting than it is in the full screen modes).

However, there is no digital sound.  No 5.1.  What's the point of watching a movie with an HD picture if there's no Dolby Digital sound?

I'm very, very disappointed.  I will stick with my DVDs, thank you very much.

i've never used Netflix period.....so how does it work with the new 360 Experience?    how many movies can you watch a month?   does it download and you have a certain amount of time to watch?   and how is the movie selection....is that 12,000 a good selection?

You add movies to your Watch Instantly queue online and then you can watch it through your 360.  You can watch any amount of movies per month with no time limit as long as you're a Netflix subscriber.  You can stop watching anytime and resume where you left off.

Personally, I like it.  I wish the Watch Instantly section had a larger selection, the HD in particular.  There's enough SD material to keep me busy, but there is a lot not available and the HD selection is miniscule.  Picture quality on my set for the SD stuff was a little worse than a DVD.  Not terrible, but it would be nice if it were a little sharper.   HD looked great though, but no 5.1 sound.

so how does the watch instantly thing work exactly?   you add it to the queue and then when you are ready you watch it?    is there a waiting list for movies or do you just start streaming them when you want?

and since i've never been a member, what does the trial entail?

You pretty much have it right.  No waiting on the streams.  Attached are the plans (bottom two aren't streaming allowed).  My current Watch Now queue has 84 movies in it from Pan's Labyrinth to the original Psycho to Akira to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.  Any Sony movies will be PC viewable, but not XBox viewable (freakin' Sony...   disgust).

I'm now wearing about trying another premium theme is Microsoft is again going to take my 250 points but give me nothing to show for it but a sore rear end.   disgust

As an update for anyone else who was having the same problem, the download finally worked on Sunday (Purge had sent me a message to let me know but I had already given it a try first-thing that morning).  I like how the premium themes are incorporated into the backgrounds behind avatars, but I'm disappointed with how it's pretty much one background while you're navigating NXE.  It changes when you select downloaded videos or games, but the main interface remains constant.  Not sure if the premium themes are worth 250 points, but they look kind of snazzy with the new NXE interface.

eurogamer has a great article comparing hdd loads against disc loads.

they found some great results (hl2) and some minimal ones, and also saw where developers have implemented great 'shadow loading' procedures, ie load the level while the cinematic loads (gow2) to surprisingly worse load times (halo 3).

sadly, no great increase was made when it came to Elevator Riding Extreme aka mass effect.

Here's an article about how much HD space games take up, with some comments about how much faster they load off the HD versus the DVD.

Bungie released a statement asking people to not load to the HD because it screws with the engineering they put in place to use the HD from the disc anyway.  Apparently it works faster to stream from disc to HD than it is from HD to HD.

I wonder if Crackdown won't let you put it on the HD for the same reason.

do they make you load all the lost odyssey discs before you can play?  if so, that's just lazy stupidity right there.  and sadly, one that i was planning on loading up.  yeah, the 120gb drive will hold it, but damn that's a huge chunk of space right there.

This is just the latest step in making the home-built PC a thing of the past.  You gave up IRQ settings and batch files, you gave up having to make any effort to patch your games, now they have you installing the game to a hard drive.  DRM is pushing people away from PC gaming.  A decade from now, there will be no PCs, only consoles.  MUHAHAHAHA!!!!
