I haven't had these issues but I also am not running my satellite signal through the box. It hard locks every now and then (which is bad), but nothing that required me to do anything more than turn it off and back on.

On an unrelated note, I have decided that "Xbox On" is the dumbest thing ever and now refuse to do it. It turns out turning the console on the 'old' way is actually more efficient AND works every time. Why it took me two months of owning the console to realize that probably says more about me than it does the console, however.

For me, it's because it would be so cool if it worked great.  It listens to most commands just fine, but I guess whatever low power state it is in makes it seem to not respond very well to XBox On.  It seems like it has been better for my daughter since the update, but worse for me.  If it worked every time, it would totally be better than the controller, but it doesn't.  I've not given up on it yet, though.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I really want it to be good but right now it's utter shit. I'm afraid it's going to be a while before they work it to a state where I'm willing to use it for TV watching, if ever.

I've been much happier since I turned my 'quick on' setting off.  System has all sorts of memory options if you have that on.  I never had a problem with 'Xbox On' not working, but when using it games would crash sometimes.

Yeah, my dreams that they had fixed it with the last update came crashing back to reality. Now I've just trained my kids to turn it on manually so I don't have to move my lazy ass off the couch.

I've had no problems with TV watching, however. I've got it hooked up to my cable box and my wife absolutely LOVES the fact that she doesn't have to mess with a remote to figure out how to get the TV turned on and tuned to the right input.

Interesting point - I don't have that option on either (I think it says its Beta?) and don't have the issues the other guys are saying very often at all.

I haven't had any issues with the update (and loving the Titanfall beta btw) but my next step is to split my HDMI signal to go to the cable box and the xbox.  I have the spare cable now and already have the splitter so I should be good to go.  Not optimal but the wife hates it going through the xbox so it's a nice compromise.  Would be a hell of a lot easier if they had included powered off pass through for the HDMI.

My Xbone has decided to no longer recognize "YES" or "NO" when I say "Xbox Turn Off." It hears that command just fine, then just sits there and decides not to listen to any further input. Aggravating. I guess I'll try to unplug it and plug it back in tonight and see if that fixes it.

On the bright side, my wife and I have been having a blast with Xbox Fitness. We were doing some silly dance exercise routine the other night with the kids and not only were we sweating our butts off we were laughing them off as well.

doing a hard reboot solves this issue.   Btw, i've started doing a hard reboot of my XB1 on the weekends and this seems to help alot. also, no reason to unplug just hold the power button for 10 secs for a hard reboot

I've done a handful of Xbox Fitness routines while wearing a chest strap heartrate monitor, and I'm astounded that the Kinect really does deliver on the promise of being able to accurately read your heartrate.  Every time the Xbox displayed my heartrate it was within 3-4 bpm of the chest strap monitor.

On the flipside, the Kinect isn't so great at telling me apart from my children, who like to run around me when I'm doing a workout or climb on my back to "help" me with my pushups.  Here's a hint, Kinect.  The adult doing jumping jacks front and center?  That's me.  The 3-foot tall person standing off to the side picking his nose?  Not me.

Ohhhh I had that Off not working problem too, will try a reboot.

I've also had more success with Xbox On by changing the phrasing slightly.  I used to say it all in one breath loudly almost like it was one syllable.  Now I say Xbox (pause) On, and it works about 90% of the time.  YMMV.  Also I often forget that the microphone is up on the Kinect sensor and keep aiming my voice (yelling) at the unit.

Was at Toys R Us at lunch and they were offering a $20 gift card with the purchase of an Xbox One.  Also had a $10 deal if you bought a system and an extra controller, but I didn't see if that deal could stack with the other.

Not that great a deal compared to the Titanfall bundle but I guess worth considering if you're not planning on Titanfall.

What do I need to be able to use my XB1 with a computer monitor, just an HDMI -> DVI-D adapter?  I'm covered on audio since I can use the optical out to go to my headphones.

Be careful around the marketing speak being used in some of these articles. Microsoft has tried to dodge the resolution question a few times by talking about output resolution, which of course is 1080p (as it was last generation too). The Murdered link you posted thankfully points out that it's talking about native resolution, but the Wolfenstein link dodges the issue entirely. That makes it highly suspect.

Edit: To clarify, whenever they are talking about "running at x resolution" instead of "native x resolution", they may be evading.

I think from the main screen you can highlight the active app and press the button on the right of the xbox button to get a menu that includes close app.

Yep.  You go to the Home Screen, highlight the app, and hit the button that you would associate as the Start button.  Then there will be a menu item to close the app out.

Following up on my own post, Bethesda has clarified that Wolfenstein does indeed run in native 1080p on both consoles, so that's good news for everyone. Developers should get used to the word "native" this generation, because people will be looking for it.

Which is disappointing. The first question about a game should be "Is this going to be fun?" Not - "What resolution does it run at?"

That conversation has become WAY too prominent, and it's honestly ruining the hobby right now. This three way dick-waving match between the two consoles and PC has overshadowed the actual games.

As a long time PC gamer, the conversation is even more irritating, because every PC is going to have a different level of graphic quality for the same game. And seemingly nobody cared that there was this disparity across systems - a disparity, I might add, that is MUCH wider than the disparity between the two consoles.

Nobody said it was the first question. It's a question, and an important one, but shouldn't overshadow everything else. I mean, I bought Thief for the PS4 today even though I could have run it with better graphics and more smoothly on my PC.

The difference being that the level of graphic quality on PC is related the amount of money you spent on parts for each PC. Cheaper/less powerful parts (graphic card, etc) means lower quality graphics. In the console wars case the XBone is $100 more expensive but offers less quality visual gaming at the moment. That's why it's a big deal.

Also, did you buy the Xbox One primarily for exclusives? That is, was one of your main purchasing decisions the ability to play Titanfall? Well, if you bought the Xbox One at launch at full price in anticipation of Titanfall, Microsoft has something just for you.

A giant middle finger.

Yeah, with consoles, and well any tech, you're always running the risk that a better deal is right around the corner from when you buy, but that one does feel a bit
too soon.  Like if that was a November deal I wouldn't bat an eye.

If it was an April deal I wouldn't bat an eye. At least those that early adopted got to play the game for a month before other people get it for free. But to do it before the game is even released is a slap in the face to those that bought the console at full price under all of the "Titanfall is going to be great, you need this game" hype. And then they just give it away for free before it's even released.

Eh, I bought my Xbox One just in the last month, and Titanfall was just about the most important factor in me getting it instead of a PS4, but I'm not finding myself particularly upset about seeing this deal come out.

Having my XB1 a bit early means that on Titanfall Day I only have to worry about downloading the game instead of also having to wait to download and install system updates.  I also already got to have a lot of fun with the Titanfall beta (not to mention other games) and hammer out some issues I had with getting my NAT to stay open.

Sure, an extra $60 in my pocket would be nice, but mainly I'm just glad to see Microsoft doing something bold like this that will go a long way in keeping them competitive with the PS4.  We're only seeing this deal because the PS4 is doing so well, and we need the XB1 to do well enough for Sony to feel pressured to do sales and deals of their own.

4 Months after launch and a deal like this is soon, but it doesn't bother me. I did get the day one achievement afterall.  Tongue Roll Eyes icon_cool

And I agree with Pug. If it builds the fanbase of the system, it's good for everyone involved.

I've alway said the XB1 is a system about potential that this point. If it sells well then there's a better chance that that potential will be reached.

I could and would have waited, but as it was a gift I don't really care.

I'm happy that they are doing *something* though rather than just standing on the tracks as the PS4 trains rolls over them.

In regards to the resolution question: of course it matters. There's a reason there are $800 graphics cards. Frankly it's an absurd argument to say that it doesn't matter. If it didn't why did we buy the next gen versions of AC, TR, COD etc... The 360/PS3 versions were 'the same game' weren't they?

If resolution and graphics didn't matter, the next gen consoles would be about like... three games each.

The gap between PS3/360 games and next-gen games isn't just resolution. It's other graphical effects, processing power, ability to integrate these games with features only available on next-gen consoles, etc.

I'm not saying it doesn't matter at all. I'm saying it shouldn't matter as much as it does.

As far as the Xbox Titanfall bundle/price drop, it doesn't bother me at all. I'm all for anything that helps the XB1 stay competitive. It means a bigger install base and better games for my console of choice. As an early adopter, price drops are always a risk you take. Trying to frame it as "MS is giving you the middle finger" is, to me, just corporation bashing. MS doesn't give people the middle finger, it just engages in business practices to make itself profitable. I hate when people try to anthropomorphize corporations.

quoted for truth.  almost all of both system's launch titles were cross-generational. can't blame the devs for this one though.  how do you expect them to make money without getting the widest install base they could?

this early in the generation, it shouldn't.   if all of the cross gen games I got at launch (or more specifically, those games that could have been made last gen without much of a visible difference, ie Contrast and unicycle) were sold $10-20 less than next gen counterparts, it would have played more into my purchasing decisions than which version had better grass effects or particle detail.
