Man, is there an "Xbone Dashboard for Dummies" book out there? I wanted to buy my first digital download game and I had to go to the internet to see how to do it. Silly me, I had this crazy idea that the "Store" section would be the place to buy things. smile  You'd think they'd at least have a sticky note in the store section telling you where to go if you were looking for games.

I think your time away from gaming has affected things. (or effected things?  not sure how YOU prefer it)

I had no problem buying stuff when I first tried. It was in the Store section...

It's totally not in the store section on mine!  That's just filled with apps like Netflix.  I have to go to the "Games" section straight from the main menu, not a Games section from within the store.

I think if you're on the store tab, you can go to the right to choose the games section as well.  At any rate, I certainly found it fast and easy enough to not feel inconvenienced.

I read somewhere that you need to throw your wallet at the screen and the Kinect reads your CC info and charges you automatically.

Can't you just say "Xbox, I want to buy ****" and have it take you directly to the sales page for that product? Where is the future?

I must've accidentally bought the game-free edition.  I was wondering why that nice trenchcoat man in the alley was giving me such a low price.

Don't let Hark give you a complex, the Xbone UI is far from intuitive.

My guess (still haven't booted up the console to check) is that my Store went straight to the 'apps' section because the last time I was in the store I was downloading utilities like the movie player and youtube.  Then I must've just completely missed how to back out or how to switch over to the game area?

On another note, has anyone tried modding their bundled headset to work with headsets like the Astro A40 or the Turtle Beach ones?  This tutorial and this other one both look legitimate, but if anyone has first-hand experience I'm all ears.

Anyone know if there is a way to tell if a game patch was downloaded?  I see notifications and I see games and apps, so I guess those were the last to get updated?  Is there a way to tell what version?  Any patch notes?  Any idea how you can tell when the patch was grabbed?

heard a guy on COD talking about this today and he had modded his.  He said they are working, but he's not happy with the result and can't wait for the new headsets in march.

The headset mods work. Guy I play with also soldered his existing headset wires to 2.5mm female adapter and it works flawlessly.

Im sending mine down to him for his expertise.

Ok, I've got my Xbone fired up now and I think my Store issues stem from my apparently not knowing how to go back in the menu.  When I open up the Store right now I'm taken straight to a screen for CoD DLC I was last looking at.  I have no idea how to back out of this and get to the rest of the store.

With the controller:
B - takes me back to the dashboard
A - selects things
X - nothing
Y - nothing
two rectangle button - nothing
three lines button - bringis up "settings, help, switch profile"
LB/RB - switches panes on the DLC I'm looking at
triggers - nothing

Voice command: I tried "Xbox, go back!" and it took me to the dashboard like the B button
"Xbox, go up!" took me to My Games and Apps

What in the world am I missing?!

I'm assuming you are getting to the store through a "last used" tile that is on your home screen?  If you instead just use the stick or right bumper to go to the right you'll see the Store categories to select for Games, Movies & TV, Music and Apps.

Instead of being intuitive and actually just going back one layer, the back button now follows a breadcrumb system.  So if you got into that DLC page directly from the dashboard, going Back one step will take you back to the dashboard instead of what you're expecting it to do.

I'm clicking on the small button that says "Store," thinking it will take me to the store.   icon_confused  Since it's a small square on the first page I see on bootup, does that mean it's a "last used" icon like you mention?

Ahhhhh, I get it now.  I went over to the store categories like you said, and when I enter the store through there the B button backs me out of the hierarchy as you'd expect it to.  So when I couldn't find my game before, it was because the Store button took me straight to the Apps store, and since I came through the 'last used' store, there was indeed no way I could get to any games.

Oh thank goodness.  I have a mini keyboard I keep by the TV for use with my consoles and was really scratching my head when I couldn't get it to work for entering in my Xbox Live code.  What a weird thing to not be able to support from the start.

I need to be able to use my fight stick.  Even if you accept that a steering wheel is arguably more complicated and needs a new one for the forcefeedback support or whatever, my fight stick has no need for the new analog stuff.

This

Killer instinct is a hell of a game, even with the gamepad. But I'm not playing it anymore until the Xbox gets fight stick support or they release a decent one.

Battery life indicator is hit or miss for me. Sometimes I see it next to the time in the lower right hand corner and soetimes I see neither.

EDIT. Ok figured out that you need to hit the guide button to display the batt life.  Would it kill MS to provide instructions?

I'm wondering if they really did sneak in some voice recognition improvements as rumored. My "Xbox On" , which worked maybe 20% of the time before, has worked like a champ since the update.

I felt like it has been better.  It pretty much never listened to my daughter and it seems to respond to her now on all commands, not just turning it on.  That being said, I had some issues with it earlier, but I decided to recalibrate with whatever they might have changed to see if that improves things.

If this was already mentioned, I missed it, but if you're like me and have a nice gaming headset from the previous gen that's incompatible with the XB1, the official Xbox adapter is now available for preorder.  Amazon is saying a Feb 25 release, but elsewhere I'm reading "early March", hopefully in time for Titanfall.

I was thinking about modding the bundled headset, but since the official one is coming out so soon I'd rather not cannibalize my standard headset.

The instructions for getting the official adapter to work properly are pretty comical, though.  I can't believe I have to think about updating firmware on my controller.

I had a glitch in the matrix tonight.   Was playing Ryse and hit the X button and had to run out of the room for 5 mins.   Came back and the TV screen was blank.   I couldn't see anything but black but I could issue my Xbox One commands and hear myself move around the unseen menu.   Nothing worked to get the display back.  I couldn't see TV, rebooting didn't work, etc.

On a whim I powered off and forced it into low resolution and it came back up in super low rez where I could see.   I then reset my settings to 1080p and all was fine.

Any ideas what this was all about?

This happened to me today.  I launched Dead Rising, got to the main menu, and then went to the Home Screen and it went black.  Could hear the sounds and everything.  Shut it down through voice and it was still blank when it came back on.  Had to hold the power button down to power cycle it and all was well.  This is the glitchiest console I have ever owned.  Later in the day, the satellite box wouldn't put any sound through.  Had to XBox Turn Off/Xbox On to get sound back.

Edit to say that obviously I keep my console set for standby mode.  I think this is the root of the problems, but the thing takes so long on bootup fresh that it saves me on the number of full boots in the end.  When these weird things happen I just power cycle.
