So fellow Xboners:

Which launch titles are you picking up?

Ryse, Dead Rising 3 and Forza 5 for sure.  Possibly Killer Instinct and Crimson Dragon.

Only now looking at launch titles.  As far as a exclusives go, Forza is a must buy.  The PS4 exclusives will have to prove their worth (e.g. Driveclub, their previous games weren't all that great).

I'll definitely pick up COD so I can play with the regular Hark crew.

Beyond that I'm wondering.   I have two systems to buy for.   I may limit myself to COD for Xbone, and 1 title for PS4, and then select some other titles based on reviews to put on my list for Christmas.

doubtful, but progress carries over if you upgrade. (xbox 360 will still be using players as servers, xbox one will have dedicated cloud servers)

Also if you buy COD digitally on the xbox 360, you can get it on the xbox one for $10 on launch

I think I'm going to have to do this so I can still play the 360 version with my uncle. We shall see.

In theory, I could buy and download COD on 360 on my old xbox, then play on my new one with my gf playing on the old one.  Then when the One is released, if we had two of them I could pay $10 to upgrade on one of them, then play on the other with her using the first one.  Of course that would require two Xbox One's at launch...  ninja

Forza 5 is my must-have. I'm currently on the fence with Dead Rising 3 until I see some more impressions/reviews. Ryse will be a rental.

Right now I don't have any plans to buy any cross-platform PC titles, with the possible exception of Watch Dogs.

The executive told IGN: "We are optimising Xbox One so that the day one update is as fast as possible. While we're still finalizing the details, we expect that the download will take between 15 and 20 minutes for most users."

Well to be fair, it's practically a different console than the one they announced at E3. I'm surprised the update won't take a couple of hours! smile

Estimated time based on what? End user bandwidth in the US can vary wildly. Not everyone lives in places where they can get 50Mb cable or FIOS.

I'm guessing here, but they did extensive market research on bandwidth and throughput in the US to line up with their initial go-to-market strategy. Their estimation would be based on that data collected.

I actually DO like them, it gives me the feeling that whatever I just bought isn't just going to be abandoned.  It also lets me know that whatever problems I might have at launch are likely to be minimal since they have hopefully taken care of what they can between production and my living room.

I agree that I like the ability to update them after launch.  I just wish it wasn't as soon as you opened the box.  it's a throwback to childhood when you got that fancy new RC truck, only to find out they went cheap on the charger and it takes 13 hours.

also, I don't fear that the device will be abandoned.  it should at least perform better than the Zune.  Tongue

It should be an interesting test of their server capacities, at the very least.  If it's 15-20 minutes on a good day, what's that look like if umpteen launch day buyers are all trying to do it at once?  And the last thing MS needs is for the entire console to have an MMO-ish launch day disaster.

I'm a little worried actually. If the Xbox One fails, it could be the straw to break the camel's back. Microsoft isn't really producing anything right now that is loved by the consumer. Any loved products they had have been obsoleted and replaced by products that are barely accepted at best. I read an article that pointed fingers at the leadership and called it incompetent, and I can't say I disagree. Windows 8, the Windows phones, the Surface, the Xbox One reveal debacle... it all adds up to a pretty ugly number.

Um, how about the Xbox 360? IIRC that isn't going anywhere for the next 3 years. E3 showed a TON of love for existing consoles.

WP customers are very happy with the product - there are shortcomings (such as not being a primary device platform for app development, not having a notification center which is slated for the Blue update).

They are not the forefront leader in a lot of categories - neither was (and once again is) Apple. This does not mean their products don't appeal to consumers. I follow WP, and it looks like they're working their asses off to attract the games and apps they need. It isn't an overnight change. They are also on the up-swing, and with the purchase of Nokia it's a clear message that they're not going to give this one up.

Quote from: TiLT on October 01, 2013, 04:39:40 PM

Windows XP was (eventually) replaced with Windows 7. Windows 8 is being replaced with 8.1 (which, having used both extensively both as a touch interface and without) I can state unequivocally that it's a big step up - the function is catching up with the form.

Quote from: TiLT on October 01, 2013, 04:39:40 PM

The same management launched the Xbox and 360, and broke into a market that was considered "sealed" by Sony and Nintendo. And that management has been changing things up, and in this case they've been shifted and are now looking for Balmers eventual replacement.

I think it's good that they're shaking things up, but I don't think their +75Billion in equity is at risk right now. They need to find their foothold with the new market, just as Sony does. Not selling consoles at a loss is the smart move. Sony at -28Billion is more concerning to me.

worried about Microsoft?  Huh?  Even in this so so world economy they are showing 4 to 6 billion dollar PROFIT each quarter.  A company with quarterly revenues of 20+ billion with 4 billion quarterly Profit, neednt worry anyone.

Also try to find an xboxone to preorder now, its not easy, took me a few days these week to find one retailer who isnt sold out. ( Now I know they are limiting them to try to create buzz I m sure, but they have already surpassed xbox360 preorders, and its still 6 weeks away and it was a real real pain in the ass to find one., not a special day one, one mind you, just a regular xboxone)

The Xbone won't fail. The naysaying about this thing is so exaggerated and overblown it's ridiculous. The real story is they've pre-sold more Xbones than they pre-sold 360s - the install base should be just fine. Let's see how many people remember (or care about) the PR missteps when Titanfall comes out.

If the PS3 can come out a year late at a ridiculously higher price point and still hold its own over the long haul, the Xbox One should be just fine. This isn't a Presidential election where losing to your competitor by a few percentage points dooms you to an eternity as an also-ran. Yet if you believe all the internet drama, somehow Microsoft pre-selling nearly a million units of a 500 freaking dollar console is a failure of disastrous proportions.

XB1 is backed by a corp too big to outright fail. Just like the PS3 was.

However, that's not saying that its gaming division can't see a drastic change for the worse.

Considering the investor and board talk about the problems with the gaming division. It's scarier for us, the gamers, than it is for the corp.

That said, PS3 fans did have to deal with all this same hazing 7 years ago, with responses pretty much like yours. Tongue

And there's still more MS could do, and will likely be forced to do even after release to stay competitive.

Yes, there's no way they'll fail. At worst they'll probably end up in the same position (in the US) that Sony found themselves in last gen.

Except that it's unrefutable fact that PS3 was a piece of shit at launch.  Xbox One is not even out yet so you can make no such claims and everything is just speculation.

I'm thinking that with lowered expectations, XB1 actually has a decent chance to surprise everyone.

I actually bought into the hype that the PS3 was something amazing and got burned for it.  So now the PS4 is supposed to be something amazing but this time I will not be getting on the hype wagon for Sony.  I am nervously hoping that they can deliver.

Except that it's unrefutable fact that PS3 was a piece of shit at launch.

Is it? This must be the first time I've ever heard anyone say that. The PS3 was a quality console that was held back by the stupid arrogance of Sony, the horribly documented developer tools, and its late launch. Nobody says that the PS3 itself was bad.

You say it's unrefutable fact that the PS3 was a POS at launch. By definition, that means you must have proof that makes your point of view impossible to refute. Please share it.
