The reaction is so negative because MS gave us little to nothing to be excited about and a lot to worry about.  They gave us nothing to talk about other than speculating on all the potential downsides.  If they had at least unveiled one major game, I don't think the reaction would have been nearly as bad.  There are just as many unanswered questions with the PS4, but at least Sony gave us great-looking games to gawk at and draw the focus away from the potential pitfalls of the system.

I have to question Microsoft's decision to enter the world of total home entertainment this way.  I know they've always wanted to do so, but this seems a bit heavy handed.

Just watched some kinect videos, I'm going to give a slight edge to XB1 even though I'll be buying a PS4 as well.  It's amazing how lag free it appears and it's tracking accurately without requiring a large space.  I'm hoping developers embrace it.  This should be able to do everything Track-IR can do and a lot more.

Indies wanted to abandon the Xbox well before the One, there were all sorts of issues with support, advertising, and also shoving the whole indie section (Even the vaunted arcade section) off into an extremely difficult corner of the dashboard to find.

Hoped they would change this since the Live Arcade did help the indie scene greatly this gen early on.

Its interesting how much focus there is on cable and tv from MS, when the trend in Denmark at least is that people are cutting that away, moving away from traditional tv, and moving it over to other devices and streaming formats instead. Of course, the tv segment, like pretty every other app that Xbox 360 has currently doesnt work in Denmark so there is no reason to think any of this will.

Is it the same trend in the states? As in, more people are choosing to cut the normal television and opt for streaming options instead?

One thing to keep in mind is that this presentation was clearly not aimed at us Europeans. I'm not sure what Microsoft are planning for us, but it's obviously not what they showed this week.

While this is all nice it doesnt address the connection, online, digital price, tied g ames, paying for second hand games, lack omf non US stuff.

It looks like this could be about looking at the bigger picture and maybe price, i mean if we only get half the stuff working will it be cheaper when normally we are more expensive.

I actually go believe that MS has gotten kinect working as originally advertised. However, there is still the nagging issue of kinect 1, which they demonstrated pretty much the same way as 2.

I kinda wish they would remake steel battalion again, that's assuming kinect 2 lives up to the hype. I'm all for the virtual cockpit, and weird moves.

probably not a massive big deal, but hey, lets make sure that Coffin lid is nailed down tight!!

xb1 will not support current gen gaming headsets

I have Turtle Beach X11 headsets and i love them,i would imagine it will be a few months before TB come out with anything new for the XB1

and this from the front page

controller will still need 2 AA Batteries

me,i was pissed off buying batteries over and over,i would keep on buying plug and plays that would die and refuse to charge after 3 months use and at 20 a go it was expensive as well as annoying..so in the end i bought a wired controller for 20 and love it to pieces,so here's hoping that they have a wired controller again for XB1
I was hoping for a PS3 style controller where you could just plug in a USB and charge it,guess not

Seriously? I thought that was just a mistake Microsoft made in the early parts of the last generation that stuck with them. Now it seems this was their intention all along. They try to hide the true price of what you're buying by shoving "required" components into separate packages. A console controller should come with rechargeable batteries as standard, ones you'll never need to remove. Anything else is just hopelessly outdated at this point. Sony understood this years ago.

That link also reveals that the Xbox One will need an external power brick, just like the 360. Haven't they learned anything from last generation?

Um, external power bricks will probably be standard for next gen, new parts, higher power requirements. It's a miracle the PS3 didn't require one and that might only be due to the PS3's GPU being massively underpowered.

If anything MS learned from the 360, shoving as much of the long term cost on the consumer, and lowering as much of their up front cost from themselves paid off incredibly. Heck, it paid off with the whole hardware failure rate fiasco, even if they spent billions repairing it, they won market share and some profit.

My experience is there's no such thing as rechargeable batteries  which never need to be removed on devices you use frequently.  There are either rechargeable batteries which are easy to remove or there are devices where you either have to take it in to the dealer to replace the battery or devices where you toss it out the device and get a new one when the battery life drops below an acceptable level.

Personally I prefer the Xbox model where you can get rechargeable batteries and you can remove them and recharge them.  I keep one battery in the charger and one in the controller.  When the controller battery gets low, I swap them and keep playing cordless.  That works better for than my PS3 where when the battery gets low I have to get out the damn connecting cord and play corded for a while.

icon_biggrin Sorry, Tilt. I said that intentionally just to bust your (fanboy) chops.  icon_biggrin

I still maintain that it's far too soon to make a decision either way about either console.  I probably won't be buying either or if I do it won't be for several years so I'm in no hurry regardless.

I own both now, but use my 360 far more because that's the type of gamer I am (and the controller is inarguably far better).  Will be getting Last of Us though slywink.

All things being equal sure why not. All i have to go on so far is what both have said. PS4 is ahead so far. At present i do not like the route the xbone is going, now in the future if they change course i may change my mind. Now if in the future PS4 goes the same route they will get the same response but until they do they are getting my early vote.

How else am i suppossed to form an opinion, they do these shows and i form an opinion anything maybe in the future is wishful thinking atm.

I own a Wii, Wii u, 360, PS3 and a PC so its not like i am a fanboy however i know what i like and what i want and MS so far doesnt look like delivering that.

Fortunately, I don't use my headset as anything but headphones.  And the Kinect even now does a decent job of picking up my voice (I imagine this will be better with Kinect 2).  However, I can understand why this would piss people off.

And as much as I hated the Lightning adapter when it was announced, I have to admit that it charges my phone a hell of a lot faster than the old version.

My Ps3 lasted 5 years and is still running smoothly.  Xbox 360s were junk, but perhaps I just got 2 lemons in the early days.

I did like the original xbox and got years of service out of it.

But, Sony has earned my support and is imo superior in both hardware and software.  (exclusive games)
Unless their is something else that comes up, PS4 will be my first buy.  Then I will have to wait and see if I also get a xbox one, or a 2nd PS4 later in the year.

I really cannot wait to play around with the new controller.  It looks very nice.
