I just got this tv as an early christmas present will it be good for gaming?

No it will not. Only TVs that cost more than $10,000 are good gaming TVs.

Seriously though, that's the latest and greatest from Sony's mid-priced tellies (step below Qualia), and just about everyone who bought one has loved it. Some've said it equals, or is even greater than the Panny's plasma TVs in picture quality. Also, the shadow details are wonderful, rivaling that of CRT tubes.

So yeah, you should be good to go.

Unless, of course, you just wanted to brag. In which case I'm going to have to kill you.

Hey it's not what you guys think my dad passed away last year and left my mom with a considerable amount of money and my mom is just trying to share the wealth with me and my sister and our families and her grandchildren because she had cancer about 8 years ago and her health is not that good and my father passed away last year of a sudden heart attack.

Just yanking your chain, pingwrx. As I said, that TV is (imho) about as good as you can get at this poing for gaming, DVD, and HD. You're good to go, man.

Now this is just a question, not a rip on your new toy or anything, but I remember something about rear projection TV's being bad with video games (ie a small chance of image burn in from static images).  Was that only with older technology that's been fixed?

I think there is a very slight problem with this on rear projection CRT TVs, yes. Much less so than on a Plasma, though.

DLP, LCOS, and LCD on the other hand don't suffer from it, and this being based on the latest and greatest LCOS technology, means there's no need to worry about any type of burn-ins. At least I haven't read anything contrary to that.

Of course, it's in the family of "lamp" TVs, meaning eventually he'll have to replace the lamp box, when it blows. This will occur within 1-2 years, depending on the amount of usage. They cost about $250 a pop right now.
