So what's the word on the new PSP?  Is it worth trading in my old PSP to Gamestop tomorrow for $80 and upgrading?  I've read conflicting reports over whether the screen is better.  How are the load times (will Burnout play ok now?)

The Gamestop extra $20 coupon expires tomorrow, so please help me out tonight.

Thanks

the new one has been hacked too, so if that's your thing, it should be all good.  i don't have specifics though.

i'm also interested.

I returned my original PSP and picked up one of the silver Daxter-pack ones a couple days ago.  So far here are my impressions:

Positives:
+ Surprisingly quite a bit lighter than the old model, more-so than I thought it would be.
+ Less screen ghosting, at least in my initial tests (for example: spinning an ATV around as fast as possible and watching the dark spots that used to really show it).
+ Some load times are improved, especially things like the in-menu vehicle selection in MX vs ATV where it previously had to load each model every time you changed, now it stores them in the new RAM for quicker access.
+ The speakers are in a better place higher up, so my thumbs don't cover them half the time like on the older PSP.
+ The new flatter back plate seems pretty comfortable.
+ The d-pad and buttons seem to have been raised a small amount.
+ The new firmware allows for XMB themes and more varied color schemes.

Not-so-positives
- I'm not a fan of the new smooth backplate, I much prefer the textured one they had before.
- The new UMD loading slot is a bit cheesy and not as nice as the old one.
- Loading times aren't as dramatically improved as you would hope.
- The pack-in game and movie come in crappy little cardboard sleeves.
- Um, I'm not a big fan of Family Guy?

Some people also say the the new screen is brighter, but I don't have my other one to directly compare it to so I can't comment on that.  Chances are, if they were comparing it to a launch PSP screen it may have lost some brilliance over time anyway.

Can't comment on battery life yet, as I haven't done that extensive of testing.

I also don't have the component cables yet so I haven't been able to check it out hooked up to my TV.

Seriously, nobody else has opinions on the new PSP?  Calvin, I know you have one, what do you think after a week with it?

I think he's on vacation.  hopefully he'll have some battery life impressions though.

I am loving mine.  It's  like "the final release version"  to the original's "not quite done" feel.  Not as sharp of a contrast / upgrade as DS Phat  to DS Lite but definitely an improvement.  More refined.

The Silver is not so bad.  Kinda wish we could buy to the European "Simpsons Yellow" Bundle.

Simply put, I am happy with mine.  Loving Jeanne D'Arc and Daxter is cool too.

I like mine but in all honestly it feels cheap compared to the old PSP. It alot lighter and the load times are better, but it feels cheap. The case itself doesnt get fingerprints on it anymore, but the screen still gets fingerprints easily. I guess cause its lighter i dunno. I also don't like the new umd door. But hopefully im wrong and it will take a beating and keep going. The load times in Tomb Raider anniversary were cut in half so that is very solid plus.

Has anyone found a new case for the new PSP?  It's too thin for my old Logitech playgear pocket case.

Otherwise, I like the new PSP, although I wish that the memory card door wasn't so flimsy.

Here is a great site for colors

I like the 2 unique ones near the bottom. The black and yellow is my favorite.

PS..Any good USB wireless names to look for? Belkin? D-Link? Most reviews on those USB stubs say the range / reception is horrid. But Id only need it in my home or front porch.

I picked up this Buffalo router (link) from Best Buy and it works great with my DS, PSP and my wife's laptop.  It's not USB though - it's an actual router.

I got to mess around with my friend's PSP 2000 the other day and decided I like the feel of the old version a bit more. I actually prefer that it's a bit heavier the way it is, and plus the black finish is much nicer than the stock silver color of the new PSP. I couldn't notice any differences in the screen really either, that or the ghosting just never bothered me that much to begin with.

Silver color is just for the Daxter bundle.  Regular black finish will be coming this month and a white finish when Battelfront for PSP comes out next month.

Wasn't Battlefront II released in 2005 for the PSP sometime around launch?

Yeah, this is a "new" and exclusive Battlefront game for the PSP.  I just can't remember the title.

A new Battlefront!? Oh no, this could mean the PSP will now be a must have item for me this fall too; where to find all the needed cash?
