could this teaser be for Mechwarrior 5? I missed out on the original Mechwarrior games and I'd love the chance to play one.

Very, very cool. However, Mechwarrior took place in a much more futurey future than what that shows. Could still be a reboot. I'd much rather it be a SHOGO reboot, though, given the look!

someone mentioned the look in the comments, but then also pointed out they never put much detail into the city streets in the old games. there's another comment about some banners in it that look like House Davion banners. It could be SHOGO, but I dont' remember their mechs looking that clunky. the big thing is is in todays 'In Other News': We get a lot of assets under embargo. Some of the announcements contained within are surprising, but one package I received today genuinely made me throw my hands in the air with glee \o/. I can't hint, or tease, but old school PC gamers will love this announcement when it hits, which'll hopefully be later this week. Seriously hyped for it. now that wouldn't be the Steam/Lucasarts announcement as that was yesterday, so....

Dont forget this news. Ill quote it here for the world Smith & Tinker Acquires FASA IPs
Smith & Tinker is pleased to announce that it has licensed from Microsoft the electronic entertainment rights for Mr. Weisman's previous creations of MechWarrior, Shadowrun, Crimson Skies and the other properties of the FASA catalog. We're not quite ready to announce our plans for each property, but please be assured that our goal is to surprise and delight old fans, while welcoming new fans to these fantastic worlds.

As much as I'd prefer a simulation biased Mechwarrior, I think that's wishful thinking as it probably wouldn't appeal to the lowest common denominator, game buying masses. Personally I'd prefer an action-RPG MW, but I think if this rumor is true it'll just end up being action heavy like the Xbox Mechassualt games. Still, it'll be MW so I wouldn't be complaining too much.

And I suppose it's true that the MW cities were blocky without details like billboards and specific cars and whatnot. But the Mechwarrior games were part of that world, and they definitely had more detail. However, the Battletech timeline does go back to the late 20th century, I hear, so I guess it coud be consistent. Or it could just be a reboot and that's the style they're going for. Bottom line, who cares. Even if that vid is not from a pre-existing IP, I'd still be interested.

Now all we need is a quality ShadowRun and Crimson Skies game from this.
I thought I read a long time ago that they were making another CS game?

I would KILL (and I mean this...) for a good Shadowrun RPG, perhaps a mix between Mass Effect and Fallout 3 in style... Or a shadowrun MMO...

I just looked up what games Pirhana has done. it doesn't fill me with a warm gooey feeling. LOL...Oh that game developer. When Piranha was mentioned I just assumed it was one of the other dev studios with Piranha in the name; i.e. Piranha Byte. Piranha Games is a local studio here in Vancouver and yeah their resume isn't something to get too excited about. They're improving though and their last 360 Transformer games got some good reviews; albeit it's metacritic is about 7. A game that isn't listed on their site is Die Hard Nakatomi Plaza for PC which they did about 7 years ago. While it wasn't a great shooter -mostly because it was rushed out unfinished- it was one of the 1st FPS's to have a skills matrix a bit like what was in The Godfather Blackhand. Something that also isn't too known about them is that they produce very good custom dev tools for other game developers and it's probably one of the things holding their games back since a lot of their resources get channeled into that side of the business. Perhaps this it the game that will get them the necessary funding to knock out something really good.

I would love a turn-based adaptation of the classic Battletech board game. Barring that, a good old fashioned mech sim is very much in order!

Very, very cool. However, Mechwarrior took place in a much more futurey future than what that shows. Could still be a reboot. I'd much rather it be a SHOGO reboot, though, given the look! Around 400+ years in the future for their first appearance: 2439. SHOGO was way more... Japanese... as the wiki page puts it "anime-style". And in a way more like a large "Heavy Gear" type mech. IMHO.

when designing a game with potentially complex controls for the 360, why don't they ever use the chat keypad as an input device? You could easily have full control over all mech functions with a system using that and it's a cheap enough add-on to be included in a bundle for people that don't have it already.

two reasons I have faith in it; the creator is in on it directly, and the guy in charge is a big fan.
Also stoked that they are using the original lost mechs, though I thought it strange that it wasn't mentioned in any of the articles.

They dont have a publisher yet, and no budget - so this is coming out in what...3-4 years? Multiplatform games arent the quickest as far as I've seen yet.
Other than that - the ideas behind them are great

they want to make the mech's more viable so you don't just move on as soon as the next big thing comes available. i love that as i was very fond of using lights to take down heavies by surgically removing their weapons and hobbling them.
now, all we need is the marauder II and i'll be happy.

From the front page: Smith & Tinker and MekTek have announced that they will be making MechWarrior 4 available for free download. This free release of MechWarrior 4 commemorates BattleTech’s 25th anniversary as well as MekTek’s 10th anniversary, and will allow BattleTech fans a chance to re-discover MechWarrior, as well as help us bring in a new army of players who are discovering MechWarrior and the BattleTech universe for the first time, completely for free. The details can be found in the press release. Keep an eye on BattleTech.com for more news about when the download will be available.
