If you look on the latest batch of Halo 3 screenshots you can spot at least two distinctively different helmet types, and one torso.

Sure, this is just part of multiplayer customization, but since the models are there, it's likely Halo 3 will include some new spartan types, but there still being only one Spartan 2 left in realspace, the Master Chief.

The latest halo novel had Spartan 3s, basically suicide squads, and if the cover art is correct, they're the guys with a more bulbous helmet visor.

Here's one

Too colorful, not gritty, war-torn enough.  Plus, overall, they just don't stand up to other games coming out now and in the near future.  Very disappointed to be honest.  If it is depending on gameplay, it better be better than 2, which I never even finished.

Fingers crossed.

Well in a weekly update they mention that these new armors are in multiplayer and have only cosmetic effects.  So it's unlikely that they're represented in single player since the Focus is on the Master Chief being the only spartan left in real space.

Also the Halo aesthetic has always been, well, somewhat Spartan in design.  There's a word that the Romans used to use as an insult to art and architecture when it's created with too much detail, something about the fear of open spaces.  It's pretty apt here in that so many games these days think that good art design is just packing in as much useless detail as possible.

I don't mind them. Looks a little more refined, but the buttons and stuff on his chest are very Darth Vader-y and seems like that would cause some problems in a firefight
