Anyone know if you pre-order, do you still get to play with the beta version of the game?

Did they fix the combat yet? I mean, is it not actually just you attacking another ship and the computer deciding who won? I liked the game but found the ship combat terrible.

It is still strategic combat. A wide variety of factors play into which ships will win: which ship is more powerful; who attacks first; whether the planet you're attacking has an Orbital Fleet Manager... all sorts of stuff. But no, it's not a tactical or action game. Strategy.

I'm about to become one happy gamer.  The only news that could top this for me is the announcement of Freedom Force 3: Modern Age (Though I'd expect a snappier title).

Everything about GalCiv2 excites me except that I couldn't get into GalCiv.  Part of that was the lack of a tutorial scenario.  Anyone know if GalCiv2 will include a tutorial?

(I'm a long-time 4X player so I'm not a newb but for some reason GalCiv just won't hold my attention for long enough to figure it out.)

This game is set to release the the same day as College Hoops 2k6 for the 360...

Therefore, I am thinking of petitioning God for an extra 6 non-working hours tacked on to each day for about a month.

Sarkus :  I don't admit this normally, but I really didn't think GalCiv I was all that fun.  GalCiv II... Let's just say, in my opinion, it's a whole new ballgame.

Howdy,

I thought I'd let everyone know I've done another interview.  I hope I'm not annoying anyone yet.

Anyway, here is the GalCiv II interview.

As always, feedback and analysis is appreciated.

Great interview Hrothgar.  I especially liked Question 2.

2. TS:     It's hard to miss that you have the word 'civilization' in your name as a 4X game. Do you think Civilization IV raised the bar for the whole 4X genre? Has it made you rethink anything?

And Brad's answer was the kind of answer I love to see.  Although I was aware of it already, it was great to see him mention it again.

Super job!

Found out last night that although the beta is officially over, you can still download the last beta version to play.

Then I found out that I have no clue how to do well in this game.

Can you fight the tactical battles like in the first two MOOs, or are they mainly just cinemas?

edit:
Nevermind, I answered my own question reading the interview.  To bad, I've always loved the tactical battles the most, so I may skip this.  Why bother designing your own ships and not really getting to use them?  Those 3d shots of the space battles will grow stale after the first few viewings mostly likely.

Another write-up by Brad on the Galciv forums.

http://www.galciv2.com/Forums.aspx?ForumID=164&AID=99854#782221

Details plans for bonus packs on and after the release of the game, among other things. One thing they're considering is a high resolution texture pack (1024x1024) for those with monster machines. Really unheard of for this genre.

Sounds as if they really got it right with GalCiv2. Can't wait.

I've been following this game for a couple weeks now, and I must say that I'm very impressed with the crew behind it.  Seem like stand-up guys who really love the product their creating.

I'm sticking this one in my list of games to snag if/when I ever have a working Windows PC again.

These guys definitely put forth insane amounts of energy into their games.  No doubt they love what they do, as is evidenced by their endless improvements/support.  I was amazed by the additional GalCiv 1 content/patches they released via Stardock.  I'm salivating just thinking of what additional goodies will be possible.

Pre-order this I did.

Double post... how rare for me.

Here is a link to Brad's developer diary he posted on the Feb. 8th.

It is a great read, and he goes briefly into a few topics.

If you can't direct link to it for some reason, simply go to Galciv2.com and look for it.
