yeah they need to take what they're doing to FF3 and do it to CT, that would rock

Absolutely. I would splooge all over my controllers and have to buy new ones if I got my hands on a faithful CT remake.

There was a fan-made CT remake being done, but it was shut down by SE.  The page is still up here.

That was completely what I thought of when I saw the screenshots.  It's almost like Square 'borrowed' the concept from them... but I'm sure they would NEVER do something like that.

I don't know; I think that DQ8 demonstrated just how well Toriyama's art can be translated into cell-shaded 3d, and if a team put the same effort into translating his Chrono Trigger art into 3d faithfully, it could come off quite well.  Basically, keep the same style, just translate it to a new presentation.  I think it could be done. smile But I wouldn't want them to change any of the designs, just like I wouldn't want them to change any of the music (orchestrated, again, with the same care that was put into faithfully orchestrating music from the DQ games in their concert presentations).

CT's perfect.  It's like saying you want to re-sculpt Michaelangelo's David in Plexiglass and Paper Mache -- it's 'modern' but it misses the point.

I wouldn't mind a Chrono Trigger remake (vice port).  I"m of the opiniion that no remake (movie, game, whatever) can ever tarnish the original because, hey, we still have it.  I will always have CT available to play on the SNES, PS1, PS2 (and presumably PS3), and emulated so I wouldn't mind some experimentation and deviation.   However,  I think LE's reaction might be quite common.  CT is held up as such a perfect game almost any deviation would likely upset many.  FF3 is a much safer bet for a redo- it has never even formally been released in the US and even in Japan it isn't exactly one of the sacred cows of the series.
