Never tempt fate.

I have a launch box, 3 years and counting.
Last night I was finishing up a Halo 2 session.
I eject the disc.
As I push eject I think to my self: "Wow, I have been lucky not to have had a single problem with my xbox".
Just as I think this and the tray opens, the xbox starts making a loud clicking noise, like something inside is out of alignment.
I re-insert the disc to check things out.
I get the red blinking circle and a: "your xbox requires service" message.
So I go to bed thinking I need to buy a new xbox.
I woke up this morning and everything works fine (after an initia/ click or 2).
Knock on wood.

i know exactly what you mean. i have a ps2 from launch, and it has had a lot of use. so many games and movies have been played with this machine that i'm amazed at how resilient it is. hell, i had a second unit on pre-order when i got this one, which i sold to a friend. his died almost 2 years ago. scary how it works out sometimes.

No, because fate is a temporary file that resides somewhere on the Windows partition of your hard drive.
Or something.

My launch xbox has been pretty good, but now it makes this loud noise when it first starts up. It still works, its just loud. Im hoping it doesnt escalate into more.

Some people say I shouldn't tempt fate. I say fate should not tempt me.
